Hello everyone, I am Japanese Godzilla fan in Japan, This is first part of breakdown. Second part is coming soon! how was godzilla minus one? let me know your thought !!! My english is not that good, but I have all the documents so try to bring you best information here!! If you have any questions, please feel free to ask, I will do my best to answer!
Thank you for making this video. I saw Minus One in December and I’m going to see Minus One Minus Color tomorrow. It’s one of the best Godzilla movies ever. I really like that they took the design from the top of the head of the Millennium Godzilla. It was always one of my favorite designs.
The destroyers used to sink Godzilla had the cannons removed from the turrets, as set by US policy of demilitarization of the country. It was a cool, subtle, detail that keeps cohesion with the period of the story. The movie also pays homage to the Japanimation movies "Grave of the Fireflies" and "The wings of Honnêamise" - where the same Shinzen fighter is used.
Ironically, Yukikaze actually kept her guns in history-she was transferred to the ROCN where she served another few decades and fought in the Taiwan Straits crisis on Taiwan’s side.
The kamikaze attack at the end is an easteregg referencing GMK's ending EXACTLY, from Godzilla prepping his heatbeam to a vehicle going down his throat, an explosion inside Godzilla ripping his body apart, and... Godzilla's heart is still beating.
The color of Godzilla's spikes when charged is almost exactly the color of Cherenkov radiation which can be seen in the spent fuel pool at a nuclear plant.
Takao-class cruisers had 200mm/50 (or 8") type 3 guns in its 5 turrets. The /50 designation is the caliber, which is different in big naval guns than small arms and is a measurement of the length of the gun barrels and is calculated by multiplying the diameter of the shell (200mm) by the caliber (50) giving a length of 10 meters or 32 feet. At the time of the their construction, the Takao-class had the largest guns of any heavy cruisers in the world.
I never thought of it from the perspective that the 20mm cannon wouldn't have permanently worked and that his heroic sacrifice would have been in vain in the same way a kamikaze attempt in the actual war would have been in vain
There was one more easter egg you missed. Both ships were destroyed by Godzilla (the Takao being incinerated by his atomic breathe) is an homage to the beginning of the original Godzilla movie. If you look carefully as to how the Takao gets obliterated, the sea lights up before Godzilla shoots his heat ray and incinerates it. Though both the US ship and the Takao were destroyed in different ways, it's still similar to the 1954 movie as Godzilla did the same thing in the beginning of the original. The difference is, the human characters found the survivors of the ship in the 1954 original, whereas in -1 the human characters found no survivors.
I throughly loved it,the human interest story was compelling and could stand on its own, especially the cultural aspects, the constant struggle of duty andself sacrifice against survival and salvation, the postwar angst, poverty, being alienated and alone.Another view of the movie is (in my opinion) that to a large extent the locals are basically on their own, there seems to be a fault line between the National government/authorities and the people at the ground level…and then there’s the patchwork family structure that is formed by an infant,a young woman and a distraught damaged young man all three are orphans….with a matronly neighbor who at first seems hostile and unforgiving but in reality a most humane and giving person. Finally there’s Godzilla himself,a brutal, unrelenting force, with no empathy for humanity,he cannot be reasoned with nor does it seem that he can be destroyed,it was up to the local community to salvage what’s left of their lives and homes even if it means many may have to lose their life but they also must struggle to stay alive against overwhelming odds…truly a great film….Hollywood should be ashamed of itself…
Low hanging fruit you missed: the color of the glow of Godzilla's fins during the atomic breath is the color of Cherenkov radiation, produced by nuclear reactors.
These AI narrations are so grating. Ugh I get it, recording and editing a voiceover is hard but 16 minutes of "ueh hurr GO JaI Ruh" is just a waste of content.
You ever stop to think that someone may not be very well-versed in the English language and they're using the AI voiceovers in order to bridge that gap as well as break into different demographics?
the sad thing is that all new goji fans will hear:there are different gojis! but its not even true. if you watched all the movies and they would be intelligent enough that he always comes back.
I love all the Easter eggs you caught I caught most of these when I watched it for the first time I'm waiting now to get it on either Blu-ray or streaming services so I can get more info.
the scene of the reporter on the roof giving live commentary telling us all thats happening, i thought that was like a parody of the american king of monsters from the 50s where they had raymond sit and tell us what's happening
That was awesome! You explained many details that I missed in the movie, even though I was born in the ‘50s and grew up a Godzilla fan. I still don’t fully understand the, “Minus 1,” title. I’ve heard that it refers to Japan’s status after the war, but for for some reason I feel like I’m missing something.
The idea is that after the war, and after the atomic bombs destroyed Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan was at zero, its lowest point. Then Godzilla attacks, pulling it below zero, or at negative one (minus one).
@@monkeyman4346 That is the thing. Folks at Chernobyl were doing stress test by doing so. Things went out of control. They put all rods down in hoping to lower the reactions. It was a right thing to do... except the tips were made of graphite which was the perfect condition for an instant explosion.
I spotted about half of the Easter eggs when I saw the movie so great work in breaking them down. As far as your English goes not bad a couple of odd word choices but pretty good better than a lot. The guns on the Takao were 200mm or 20cm, 50 calibres is the length of the gun it's the only nit pick with an overall great video
13:36 Actually, that scene is an homage to the scene in the original film where the TV reporter is watching and filming Godzilla moving through the city and reports what he is seeing, telling the viewers "This is unbelievable, absolutely unbelievable. And yet, the unbelievable is happening at this very moment, right before our very eyes! Right now Godzilla is leaving behind a sea of flames! From Ginza-Owari to Shinbashi, Hamachi, Chiba, and Shinabara, it's all become a sea of flames! Now Godzilla is starting to move again! It appears that he is moving beyond the city limits! To all of our viewers, this is not a play or a movie! This is real! The most extraordinary story of the century! Is the world going to be destroyed by a two-million-year old monster?" The reason why it is an homage to that scene and not the one you mentioned in the video is because in the scene in Minus One, the reporters are watching Godzilla destroy Japan from afar just like the reporter in the original whereas the reporter in the TV Tower was actually being attacked by Godzilla.
3:41 OK that may be true, but it’s actually different. It was probably based on of the Godzillasaurus from Godzilla versus king Ghidorah, 1991 and actually, it may be might be not call a goijra creature. It may be an Godzillasaurus

AI voice makes this video bad. Everything else is good that voice and failed language is just so jaring it pulls you out every time. Wish you had just had someone read the script instead, even through a strong accent that would have been better.
I think the US pulling out of Japan was a combination of Soviet tension and Godzillas attacks on American ships, not so much the US was leading Godzilla. It a complaint I’ve been hearing because the US occupied Japan until 1952 so why didn’t they defend the country. I think it was because of tensions with the Soviet Union lead them not wanting to lose anymore ships so they left Japan to fend for themselves.
I whole heartedly believe you keep referencing Godzilla 98 just to piss people off and get comments. Mission successful… but the Japanese hate that film, and I will let you know, they aren’t referencing it. Also re-creation not recreation. Also something I think you do just for comments. I’m just going to say try making good content over annoying people for engagement. You might get some hits this time, but people won’t be back.

There are so many musical call-backs to past Godzilla films.

Yes! I notice the accuracy of post WW2 Japan and it added to the surealness of the movie!
Ironically, Yukikaze actually kept her guns in history-she was transferred to the ROCN where she served another few decades and fought in the Taiwan Straits crisis on Taiwan’s side.

oh yes, the rage is eternal :D
The color of Godzilla's spikes when charged is almost exactly the color of Cherenkov radiation which can be seen in the spent fuel pool at a nuclear plant.
The fins going in and out as reactor control rods. That's so cool!!!
I realized that they fought Godzilla with science and not by conventional weapons of war which is a good theme

Yeah, he said in the pinned comment he’s Japanese and doesn’t speak English well. Not everyone lives in America or speaks English.
