I upgraded to X2 couple of days ago -- it is dramatically improved. Every single operation I found tedious has been simplified. With very little effort, without losing concentration; major editing functions can be accomplished. I am really happy with these productivity enhancements. I think this makes X2 the best/friendliest/coolest DAW in the world! Fakher Halim
This is the first music related software that installed and performed on the initial installation. The fixes are all in place and the transition from X1 to X2, as you can see here, quite profound and performance changes are now as they should be, it is still basically X1, but works. This, a SSD, RME UFX and an elitebook and I'm set for years. Thank you Cake for making this easy and affordable. Now send my mug and stop giving the good swag at NAMM where nobody wants it!! Give it to us!! congrats
Hi Cakewalk, I will be downloading this soon. But I just had to give you props on a few things. 1, you guys have come a long way in getting end users information they can actually use as opposed to the "sleek, empty, buy my product" info videos that flood you tube. 2, you have also maintained a level of professionalism and access to information that your end users benefit from and lastly, AFFORDABILITY! not everyone is swimming in money to buy plugin after plugin just to make a decent recording!
This video was very useful. I love the changes you have made. Especially the simple stuff actually. Things like draging to paint in notes in the piano view, right draging to lasso. To me the piano view never felt right to me in previous versions but now it does. Sonar X2 just feels right! I'm very glad for this. Everything that saves time gets my thumbs up. And to the guy who thinks that Cake/Rolands stuff are way over priced. What planet are you from? I bow in Cake's direction! Thanks!
Wow!!! Thanks!! Pretty awesome one of the bakers would release a "impromptu" video in the wee hours of the night.. ON A WEEKEND no less to help the users "adapt" to the new X2. Amazing! Digidesign and Steinberg take note.... then again don't bother. Just another advantage Sonar has over those products. Keep it rocking guys!!!
ive chosen cakewalk products because i believe them to be the best a daw has to offer. this is only my opinion,as others opinion,i respect that, your opinions. sonar x2 is an increable piece of work.it is very easy to use and built on the x1 engine. it is truely one of the most powerful pieces of software i have ever used. ive tried alot of different daw's,but always keep comming back to cakewalk. why? i trust there work, there performance and their dedication to excellence.
I think the change from 8.5 to X1 was really amazing. At first I didn't want to get into it, because I don't like change. Eventually, I just had to try it out. I was very happy that I made the switch, because it was for the better. I just got X2 a few weeks ago. There are changes that weren't really necessary, but they still made X2 better. Overall, I would say that X2 is not worlds better, but it is better.
Well, I think Cakewalk is about one of the most consistent music tech company in this world. I still remember Pro Audio back in the days and today, they have made a lot impact on music industry. I always come back to it and will recommend it for any one to try it.
While we can all understand the feeling, SONAR X1d which we have used on a lot of our recent recordings has proved rock solid, fast and reliable. Actually Cakewalk does a really good job of fixing things, and I'm not really sure competition is any better on fixing issues. Besides, it's been 2 years since last version, while competitors have been releasing upgrades every year. It's up to you where you put your money but the grass isn't alway greener etc.
Great video. The Cakewalk tutorials are getting really good; concise and to the point. A real help. Small question Cakewalk: What is the size of the monitor used in this video? I use 22" monitors, but this looks wider than that. Just curious.
theres only so much any daw can do without looking like another one,get overf it just be happy that they are stepping their game up and making everything easier to use
I've been using Cakewalk products since 1999. During that time, I've had to learn new workflows with every new DAW version that was released. Conversely, I've been using Microsoft word for since before Windows and I've NEVER had to learn a new workflow. New features were added, sure, but they were always added OVER the old version. Keyboard shortcuts that worked in DOS versions STILL work today. You guys need to stop fucking around trying to fix what isn't broken or you're lose market share.
If you have both landmarks and a specific time value (ie. quarter notes) chosen in the snap settings, which will Sonar jump to, the landmark or the time setting?
I know there is a function where a track can be selected and then you can choose a key you want to work in and when you add notes by hand only notes in the key are available but I can't find it in Sonar X3. Suggestions?
I just finished installing X2 today and opened a project from an older version. Tried to "Bounce to Track" using the old shortcut "EK". No dice?? Finally had to go on line just to find out how to do it in X2. Why would Cakewalk want to make its users learn new ways to do the same old stuff? Tried to find out how to add shortcuts - no dice again. Then, when I finally did bounce a clip to a new track, X2 decided the new gain, and over-modulated / distorted the audio. Gonna be a long road.
Do someone know if Sonar X2 can save Multi Presets? Only thing that´s missing in Studio One and makes me very sad :( I need to fast import multi´s with ready labeled miditracks ready to go. I don´t want to "invent the wheel" every time I need a full String Section with a lot of articulations (VSL, LASS ect) Anyone?
Ok, sir. You win. You won the internet because you made a pointless comment about cosmetic looks of a program you think is stolen.. I've been using sonar for 10 years and I can say to you, nothing fundamentally changed in X1. It's entirely probable that Cakewalk (one of the most successful companies in music hardware and software) copied little known program from a firm with no pedigree. Because that's just good business. Right.
i think every daw out there has shared idea by looking at eachothers work trying to better their daw's.i think you would agree thats important right? that us the user recieves a better daw? im not sure why it matters to you so much who was first, the chicken or the egg? be happy we have auesome tools to do the thing we love, make music, when we lose focus and start pointing fingers around,we are no longer musicians, but more critics. do what you do best MrLacphong.make some music and post a link.
Seriously want to argue about this? If it wasn't for Cakewalk DAWs as we know them today might not exist. Sonar 8 had pretty similar looks and workflow as x1. Presonus is a company that developed hardware and suddenly decided they want to try software too. Without too much success either. And if you take a close look at Cubase, DP, Proo Tools, all high-end DAW's they all look alike, saying somebody stole a detail from some1 else is like saying BMW copied Audi because their cars also have doors.
Sound like you don't have a clue about history. Free history lesson for you: It's true that sonar has been around since the 80, but with a different workflow and UI. The first official version of Studio One was shipped on October 1, 2009. Approximately a year later, December of 2010, sonar x1 is out with a completely new UI and workflow that's closely similar to Studio One' UI. Now in sonar x2 "drag to zoom on the timeline bar", don't tell me that's not copied from Studio One.
I never said that Studio One is the most innovative DAW or even Presonus is making any such claims. If u c Presonus, Cubase, Ableton Live, Reaper.... is making innovation claims on things they didn't invented, feel free to slam them on my face, otherwise go kiss the toilet. The only reason why I'm comparing Studio One to sonar x is because: 1. sonar x look identical to Studio One (skylight vs. Studio One UI) 2. cakewalk borrowed other ideas and making claims that they are innovative.
I'm not here to debate on whether it's justify for software companies to borrow ideas from each other because everyone else r doing it. I'm here just to express my point of view, that I think cakewalk is cloning Studio One UI, and making "innovation" claims about it is Deceptive * Immoral * Unethical * No Integrity. If u disagree with me about cakewalk is cloning Studio One UI, then feel free to prove it otherwise with facts n evidences. BUT DON'T ACT LIKE A KID OR JUSTIFYING THE WRONG-DOING!
If any person has ever used pro level software, you KNOW that change is going to happen, like it or not. IF you don't like it, stay with the old version & make music. MS Word is a terrible example really. It is so buggy it is not even funny, mainly because OF it's old DOS heritage. Most companies around here have gone Open Office or LibreOffice 4 for stability. Like the windows OS, it also gets more bloated every release. So far X2A has been doing OK, except for VST effects, which are so-so.
If you can't tell the differences between sonar 8 and sonar x1, then that just tell me how much you know about DAW. If earlier version of sonar was so successful, then why change everything in sonar x1 to make it look like the new and "unsuccessful" Studio One? It's a proven fact that sonar changed after Studio One come out. I'm just saying that sonar is copying Studio One, and whether you have any respect for intellectual property is up to you. If u disagree, then prove it with evidences.
other DAW might of have borrowed features from each other, but none of them claim that they invented it, does Studio One,Wavelab,Cubase,Reaper,Logic,Pro Tools,Ableton Live...ect. all look similar to each other like the way how sonar x skylight layout look identical to Studio One? You can't justify stealing because u come from a family of thieves. If u think that everyone can just take anyone else ideas and claim it their own is a good thing...I have to wonder how your parents raised u.
10 years of using it n u can't tell the differences between sonar 8 and sonar x1, that's just sad. Hint... look up the term "skylight" if u don't have a clue about what's new in sonar x1 already. I'm not despising cakewalk for taking advantage of existing technology n improve it to make a better product, but the way cakewalk have been marketing n making claims as if they invented them is just low n despicable, same as those who supported it. Big company don't steal? YOU ARE SO NAIVE!
Costs you less money. Costs us less time. I love a win-win. Possibly my favorite instructional video ever.
I upgraded to X2 couple of days ago -- it is dramatically improved.

Thanks for this vid Seth! Perfectly executed and performed directly to the target audience :-) For us long time CW users X2 should be called, X Huge!!
awesome! just downloaded my new copy of X2 pre release... can't wait to begin using it... Bakers, you're the greatest!!!!!!!!!

great video, guys!
I was hoping for a more substantial arpeggiator update, but i guess we can't have everything
This video was very useful. I love the changes you have made. Especially the simple stuff actually. Things like draging to paint in notes in the piano view, right draging to lasso. Great video Seth. Thanks for getting this out quickly.
Per-Clip editor? Awesome.
Just awesome.
Oh, and by the way...I bought Cubase 7 a month ago and here I am :P
Keep up the good work, Cakewalk!

Thank you Seth. You are getting to be like he postman! You always deliver! I am now good to go!
Excellent improvements and a very informative video!
I'm glad I watched this before I started using it.
THIS IS GENIUS. GENIUS GENIUS GENIUS.
Thank you, Cakewalk!
Thanks for the hi-res recording!
Hey, I like the no-nonsense, down and dirty, off the cuff, low production value. Less milking the time. :o)
That was extremely helpful, thank you!
Great video ... thanks! I'm looking forward to upgrading this fall.
X2 Rocks! Pure genius! Cakewalk does it again!
ive chosen cakewalk products because i believe them to be the best a daw has to offer.

X2 is well worth the $99.
I know there is a function where a track can be selected and then you can choose a key you want to work in and when you add notes by hand only notes in the key are available but I can't find it in Sonar X3. Suggestions?
I wish theyd still make skins for todays DAW's.
I liked X1 but not enough for me to part with Ableton.Ill give X2 a try when I can afford it.
Isn't that how anything goes though. First time on Studio One felt like Cockos Reaper to me on a lot of the control schemes and workflow.
I just finished installing X2 today and opened a project from an older version. Tried to "Bounce to Track" using the old shortcut "EK". No dice?? Finally had to go on line just to find out how to do it in X2. Why would Cakewalk want to make its users learn new ways to do the same old stuff? What DAW's have a 64 bit engine?
my downloads were available thursday only trouble is not letting me register rapture still waiting on tech support to hit me back.
Sorry, I meant to say it is the first music software I personally have ever installed and got it right the first time...edit.
cnan i run sonar x series on a pentium 4 ?
Do someone know if Sonar X2 can save Multi Presets? Only thing that´s missing in Studio One and makes me very sad :(

Anyone?
cool
I have moved to Reaper - maybe you should try that. @ $60.00 it is a steal. For me it's the most flexible DAW out there.
Ok, sir. You win. You won the internet because you made a pointless comment about cosmetic looks of a program you think is stolen.. Many many FL studio features :)
in that price range only sonar i think. best of all is pro tools they're really famous for their magnificent audio engine. but it's expensive though
i think every daw out there has shared idea by looking at eachothers work trying to better their daw's.i think you would agree thats important right? that us the user recieves a better daw?
