    WOW!!!!!! This video opened up a whole new world of GoPro. Had NO IDEA that there was so much more that you could do beyond the settings screen of the camera. This is going to lead me down a rabbit hole of modifications . THANK YOU

    This helped me make the decision to get a GoPro as opposed to another action camera. I read mixed things about the ability to remove the overlay and probably would have gone with a different camera had I not seen this video. It's wild to me that GoPro doesn't tell people about the extensibility of the Labs firmwares. It makes this camera so much better! Thanks for the helpful video.

    A very useful tutorial, as I'm looking to use a couple of GP11's to HDMI output to a broadcast vision mixer and the last thing we need is the GUI staying on after power-up or popping up mid-broadcast. Hopefully, it will at some point be updated to be able to do this from the camera, without having to go throught the QR code rigmarole, but at least you've made it perfectly clear how to do it.

    Before trying this, I confirmed our output of the GoPro to a monitor via HDMI. Once I loaded the labs firmware and selected the clean feed, we no longer get a video feed. I did a factory reset and still no feed at all from GoPro to monitor. Any suggestions?

      Which version of the GoPro ? Also, you can always go back to the normal firmware, if needed, but that obviously would defy the purpose.

    • @EmeraldAudiovisual

      No. There is not. You either do it on the screen every single time you turn on or replug the HDMI cable or you install the Labs firmware and disable it permanently as per my video. The Hero 7 was the last one to have a setting in the menu to disable it.

    Hello, congratulations for the video, I'm watching it here in Brazil. I didn't quite understand the table on the GoPro website and I have a question: with the GoPro 9, when turning on the media module, if I set the video to 16:9, full hd with 60FPS I will be able to have that same resolution in a live streaming on youtube? I'm going to buy a GoPro that will be used a lot for live broadcasts and I'm in doubt between the Black 8, 9 or 10 versions. Thanks.

    • @EmeraldAudiovisual
      @EmeraldAudiovisual  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Not quite. You will have a 1080p60 signal on HDMI, but it's 1080p30, as every second frame just is duplicated. This is the case for the Hero 7, 8 and 9 and not documented in the table, but a known "feature".
      For the Hero 8 and 9, there is a workaround, that you can start recording (while using HDMI over the MediaMod) and then you will get actual 1080p60.

    Hi, I'm entirely new to GoPro so thanks for this helpful video! I am struggling to get the HDMI out to work at all, before I do the update/QR code. I have the micro HDMI from media-mod going into basic HDMI USB-C capture device, then into OBS - but I am getting no live video at all (I have tried 2 x brand new capture cards in case it was that). Should the camera automatically send video?.. I was a bit confused about the media mode and button presses to get video to screen. Any tips or instructions would be hugely appreciated!!

    • @EmeraldAudiovisual

      Try connect your GoPro to a TV first. Just to ensure, it is not your Mediamod or your HDMI cable.

      @@EmeraldAudiovisual Thanks - tried that, no output from camera to TV. I tested the HDMI capture device (4K USB Mirabox) and that works with another HDMI source fine. Seems there must be a setting on the GoPro - I factory reset it. Is there anything you know of that needs to be set on the camera or a particular procedure apart from what is shown in your video?

    We are considering using a GoPro Hero 11 with Media Mod as a studio camera in a very small space - its wide-angle lens can get the view we need. With the Media Mod, can we monitor the GoPro's live video on a TV connected via HDMI even while recording? Or does the HDMI output only work for live preview (before recording) or playback? Thanks.

    • @EmeraldAudiovisual
      @EmeraldAudiovisual  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There are a few things to consider:
      - yes, you can output the GoPro feed to a TV and it will show the footage, while recording, but the GoPro Hero 10 and 11 have a bug, where it defaults to 480p60, when you record. The GoPro Hero 9 does not have that bug. I made a video about this here: th-cam.com/video/GaEBi6Tt52w/w-d-xo.html . If you record at greater resolution than 1080p, then it will always default to lower resolutions on the HDMI output. What resolution it will output is listed here: community.gopro.com/s/article/Media-Mod-HDMI-Output
      - additionally, once you connect something to the HDMI port (be it a capture or a TV or anything else), the GoPro switches off it's rear screen and only shows a "HDMI" logo on the front screen. So you can not view the back of the GoPro anymore.

      Little update on the Hero 11. I wasn't actually aware of this: GoPro have updated the Hero 11 to now output 1080p30, when recording 1080p30 or 1080p60. And it will actually output true 1080p in idle. The link I provided above with the MediaMod HDMI output modes has been correctly updated.

    • @EmeraldAudiovisual
      @EmeraldAudiovisual  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. The Labs firmware is an official GoPro firmware, it just adds experimental features. The GoPro Quik app will work the same way as before. Just make sure, not to firmware upgrade your camera from the Quik app, when it offers that, as that will bring you back on a standard firmware.

    • @EmeraldAudiovisual

      No. Because the GoPros solution is proprietary. To use a USB-C to Display Port or a USB-C to HDMI cable, the device you connect it to has to have full support for that. The GoPro does not.

    Hi, do you know of a way to output in 4K via the Media Mod HDMI with a Hero 11 Black? I bought a Media Mod for precisely that reason, to playback 4K directly on a 4K TV and found out the Media Mod caps the output at 1080p, unbelievable...

    • @EmeraldAudiovisual
      @EmeraldAudiovisual  ปีที่แล้ว

      The GoPro (all of them) is not capable of 4k output on HDMI. Here are the resolutions, that the MediaMod can output on HDMI, based on what resolution you have set your camera to: community.gopro.com/s/article/Media-Mod-HDMI-Output
      Maximum is 1080p. And the higher your recording resolution, the lower the resolution for the HDMI.

    • @EmeraldAudiovisual

      You mean the screen on the GoPro ? That's normal. It does not have the processing power to drive both the screen on the back (and front) + HDMI. It's either/or. That's been a limitation with GoPro since at least the Hero7, if not before.
