@Art Lira, my ex-stepfather had a 1969 Chevrolet El Camino SS (it may have been a 1968 Chevrolet El Camino SS, but I could not tell at the time), but it was black and it was horribly besieged by rust, but he was too poor/lazy/drunk/stupid/drugged up to ever properly fix it, or his 1955 Chevrolet Apache, 1967 Chevrolet C-10, 1968 GMC C/K 1500 Longhorn, 1972 Chevrolet Nova SS, or his 1964 Dodge Polara Max Wedge for that matter. My sisters also owned some sweet rides, as did my mother, in their cases, a 1975 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, a 1978 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, a 1976 Chevrolet Camaro, and a 1978 Plymouth Volare (coupe version, the trim that was below the Road Runner trim) for the oldest sister, a 1978 Oldsmobile Delta 88 and a 2005 Nissan 350 Z for the younger sister, and a 1967 Ford Bronco (before I was born), 1967 Chevrolet Malibu station wagon/estate car/shooting brake (I think, and also before I was born), a 1976 Chevrolet Caprice Estate station wagon/estate car/shooting brake, a 1978 Datsun 510/Datsun 1300/Datsun 1500/Datsun 1600/Datsun Bluebird/Nissan Bluebird station wagon/estate car/shooting brake, a 1980 Volvo 260 Estate station wagon/estate car/shooting brake, a 1977 AMC Concorde (which is essentially a four door version of the underrated 1970-1977 AMC Hornet), and a 1980 Dodge Aspen (sedan/saloon version) was what my mother owned, respectively. A neighbor of mine in the middle 1990s had a 1972 Ford Ranchero GT.
My dad owned and still owns an 83 SS El Camino. That was an awesome car to grow up with. We towed a 26ft camper with it, dad took the glass off the back and put a camper shell on it for long road trips so the kids could relax in the bed of the truck, it toasted every mustang, camaro, charger, new or old that tried to beat it from a light. It was freakin perfect. One of these days I'm going to pull it out of his garage and get it running again.
My first car, in 1987, was a 1969 Chevy El Camino. My dad and I dropped a 350 cu. in. engine in it with a Rochester 4-barrel. Everything was stock...except for the glasspack muffler that made it sounds even more badass than it already was! I won my fair share of races in that car, and many teen girls took rides with me when we cruised the strip in my high school years! Teens today have no idea how fun that was.
My first car was an El Camino that my parent still own. I have an 85 Caballero and a 70 SS 454. I look forward to the idea of bringing it back into production. Honestly I can't wait.
The El Camino is a strange one but deserves respect as something American and special, a vehicle that is loved by so many different types of characters from the world of car enthusiast.
We got a 1966 with shiny black paint with a 396 in it and godDAMN it sounds beautiful. Its got the right amount of v8 rumble, but its not over aggressive, it sounds just like an old school dirt stock car.
The El Camino SS seems pretty cool. I would take a muscle car with a 7.4L V8 with basically the same output as a new Raptor. Not to mention the classic styling and the old style sound that it had.
78 elky was my first car back in 2002. After being around the ring a bit, looking at getting another one and putting a modern engine like the LFX in it. They're truly great machines!
I have a 1970 454 SS El Camino and I love driving it. It is comfortable and It pin's my ass to the seat when I touch the pedal. I highly recommend buying one if you can. Great video I would like to see more on the El Camino. Thank you.
i-Spec It's A *Holden* the Aussies made and invented the UTE the GTO and the G8 and the Chevy SS were based on the Holden Commadores and because Holden is under GM they had to sell the car overseas but it's a rebadged Holden, only thing Chevy is the LS motor other than that the car is full Holden and Aussie, the Maloo is not a Chevy it's a Holden.
theres a (Holden SS Ute) which is basically your Chevy SS ute, then theres the performance like the Pontaic G8 which is the Holden HSV Ute called the Maloo
Same, 2 years back I was 13 looking for an El Camino. Ended up missing a eBay offer for a 78 that was a roller and had it's paint and interior redone. I ended up missing it but then about 15 miles away I found an 82 with a 355 small block and th350 transmission. Ended up getting it for 1300 running and driving. Ended up having no rust but the interior needed to be redone so we ended up doing it in black and are currently saving up to repaint it.
If you want a modern El Camino, go to Australia. For example, the Holden Maloo. Correct me if I’m wrong, but the highest performance model has an LS in it.
I’m 16 and bought a 79 elco. Right now I have it on center line 15s but I have some supreme 14s I’m putting on it when I get tires. I enjoy the car cause I can use it as a low rider or a truck
My favorites are probably the 59-60, but the ones more common that I’m after are from 64-67, personally although 1970 is one hell of a year for the el Camino too
My first car was an 83 caballero, El Camino woth GMC badging essentially, still have it, it's having some issues but nothing a bit of TLC can't fix. Can't wait to get it back on the road
But I'm an Aussie and I don't want it, I see Commodores day in, day out, I want to learn about interesting cars that I rarely get to see not the most common vehicle on the road.
You mean like how someone might want to learn about a rare car? If they do the Commodore I'd see it as nothing more than either a little tribute or the beginning of the end for this series, a sign that we're running out of cool and interesting cars. And why the Commodore when there is a more interesting and sportier variant in the Monaro? That would make more sense and be more interesting, how often do you see a Monaro compared to how often you see a Commodore?
I was really hoping this would have more info on which engines needed tuning, common problems with El Caminos that caused breakdowns, or transmissions that needed upgrades/replacements to stay on the road.
I've been binge watching all these episodes the past few days 😂 I love everything about how they are done and you are a funny ass host James. I was hoping there could be a Lexus IS F, GS, RC F and LFA episodes? Gracias
I have had an 87 for about 11 years and I'm finally getting to start restoring it they are great cars and I fully intend to hold onto mine as long as possible
When was in High School my best friend drove a 70’ SS 454 El Camino. It was black with orange strips and aftermarket Cragar SS magnesium alloy wheels, what a looker. That car/truck hauled ass. When picked up girls, one would have to straddle the console, the other would have sit in my lap real nice and cozy like.
If you can get a two door truck to hold a full sheet of drywall or plywood, and then make it a car, there's a frickin' market for this, Chevy/Ford! Think about it, lower ground height and smoother areo, with fuel efficient engines, can be dreams of the jobsites again.
Ford, Chevy and dodge all make long box 2wd reg cab trucks that haul way more than a truck car . there’s no market for it. Holden and au Ford couldn’t keep them in production either
@@theicedman you are talking about the US and top countries where people can afford everything, this would be aimed for developing or sub developed countries in a budget lol, not everyone can get a F350 with credit
Imagine Chevy Ford and Dodge 1500 pickup long bed but with a lowered roofline , about an inch more ride height than a car, and a air leveling system in the back. And lower the bed walls a notch to make it easy to reach over. I’d buy it. However, two door pickups aren’t a thing unless you’re a fleet or a dealer is willing to hand you an order form.
I have a 82 El Camino, my grandparents gave it to me as a graduation gift this year, it’s not in driving state just yet but I plan on fixing it up, it’s gonna be epic when I fix her up, I can’t wait
Wish I had a ‘71 but my ‘79 ss is still really fun to drive. Definitely 100% can confirm that the El Camino is one of the best muscle “trucks” out there.
I got a 73 Elky SS with a 454 engine, and it of course was somewhat detuned for less emissions, but I hear that all that LS5 big block Chevy needs is a higher lobe cam shaft to give it more horses and more torque. The 1970 El Camino SS had an LS6 big block and had a cam shaft with higher lobes, which is probably the cam shaft I would want for my 73 LS5 big block, but I don't know that for sure, still researching that. All I can say is that I love that 73 of mine, it's the biggest and heaviest one that Chevy ever built. What a ride!
I got an 81 el camino and I absolutely love it I have no regrets on buying it it's fast has some pretty slick looks and yes I have used it at a truck hauling engines around from shop to shop.
ElCamino Kid at one time I owned six! 1960 thru 1972 down to just two now, a 1970 big block 4 speed SS and a 1969 small block auto SS I've own since high school in 1978! You can still find decent examples to build up from guys like me who try to save em from the crusher. Good luck finding your own Elky dude...
David Norman - Thanks! At this point it’s a matter of coming up with the money for one in good shape. I’ve let myself get broken hearted over rust buckets before, and when it comes to my dream car I’ve gotta do it right.

LSA supercharged yep
David Hill rip Holden
David Hill NOOOOOO!!!! I love Holden. They made my favorite car, the G8.
IAmDennyP gm made that
Nick Buckingham Holden made it. Pontiac reskinned it. Originally it is a HOLDEN Commodore.
Just inherited a ‘66 El Camino, excited to it on the road this year
Up to Speed on a Dacia Sandero pls
are you james may
Yes yes yes
I'm done
That would be like less than 1 min video
Good news!
What!
It's Dacia Sandero!
They tried bringing it back through Holden of Australia. There was a dealership in Colorado selling them in small quantities. Its pretty badass...

Professor Doughnut right? Wtf.
Professor Doughnut He rolled down his window and he started to say...
Genetically Superior it’s all about making that GTA
Professor Doughnut lowrider 🙂
I’m 16 and bought a 79 elco. Right now I have it on center line 15s but I have some supreme 14s I’m putting on it when I get tires. I enjoy the car cause I can use it as a low rider or a truck
It's been a lifetime goal of mine to own a 1970 El Camino. I would love to any year but that's the one that I love the most.
My favorites are probably the 59-60, but the ones more common that I’m after are from 64-67, personally although 1970 is one hell of a year for the el Camino too
@@Nebulasecura Love your name!
SIDisTHE thanks, she’s my favorite star wars character xd
@@Nebulasecura She is great! My favorite is still IG-88.
SIDisTHE he’s quite the respectable character too! Star Wars EU is canon to me
DO THE NEXT IMPREZA PLZ
My first car was an 83 caballero, El Camino woth GMC badging essentially, still have it, it's having some issues but nothing a bit of TLC can't fix. Can't wait to get it back on the road
I've had a 1964 El Camino about 45 years it's in the process of being refurbished it's my baby, I've had lots of classics but! I keep the El Camino!!
Do a Holden Commodore Up To Speed please? For us Australian viewers
Henry Ryan yeah we need it now rip Holden
But I'm an Aussie and I don't want it, I see Commodores day in, day out, I want to learn about interesting cars that I rarely get to see not the most common vehicle on the road.
Quake so people who dont know about our cars can learn about them
You mean like how someone might want to learn about a rare car? If they do the Commodore I'd see it as nothing more than either a little tribute or the beginning of the end for this series, a sign that we're running out of cool and interesting cars. And why the Commodore when there is a more interesting and sportier variant in the Monaro? That would make more sense and be more interesting, how often do you see a Monaro compared to how often you see a Commodore?
well actual i said holdens All of them not just commodore
I was really hoping this would have more info on which engines needed tuning, common problems with El Caminos that caused breakdowns, or transmissions that needed upgrades/replacements to stay on the road.
These cars are 30+ years old 🤷🏾♂️ and have been through several owners. Tuning engines? Small block Chevys have all of the information you'd need.
I was able to get a hold of my Tio's El Camino which was a 82 model but me and my pops gotta fix it up
I have a 1978 El Camino. I've had it for over 6 years now, and it's been my daily since. I love that thing!
Literally my favorite car of all time, no contest. A 1980 el camino will be my dream car till I die.
I have a 1980 elco 😎

Achievement unlocked: do an El Camino vid with 0 clips from That '70s Show.
I'd buy a old El Camino, specially if I could buy the ss, best car truck thing ever
If you observe, you'll know that this is the first proper video where james starts to yell.
El Camino broke his sanity, and brought out his inner loud shouty mental alter ego. Not even surprised :)
Yep... Noted... Found the vid
So James discovered cocaine sometime between this video, and the previous episode
Tj RC83 cough Australia Cough
Not spacious, comfortable or really safe, they are a thing in Mexico and I wouldn't buy one, ever
Wrx next please
Love the video brother!! I have a 572 powered 1966 El Camino pimp!!
I have a 82 El Camino, my grandparents gave it to me as a graduation gift this year, it’s not in driving state just yet but I plan on fixing it up, it’s gonna be epic when I fix her up, I can’t wait

Hey when are you going to do an up to speed on the Holden Ute or any holden?
Streets Rebel Florida Man strikes again!
MAKE A VIDEO ON IMPREZA

Do an Up To Speed on the Chevelle

One of my favorite muscle cars my grandpa owned a baby blue 1970’s ss.
I’ve wanted one of these since I was about 6 years old. I hope I get to own one someday.

ElCamino Kid I have a 73 that need a new floor and some work.

Especially considering the first ute came from aus
