    Beautiful work! And you don't NEED a reflector! If you are going for that particular look, then sure, use a reflector. But if anyone tells you that there is any one right way to do it, they are missing the point. This is, at its core, a stellar shot, and your edit really tells a subtly/impactful story. Beautifully done, friend!

    Awesome tutorial.
    Something you may want to play with instead of the Iris enhancer:
    Select both irises with adjustment brush
    Add around 10-15 pts of dehaze
    [Sometimes around 5 of clarity, but usually not needed]
    Then bump up exposure by usually around a quarter to a third of a stop (sounds like a lot, but remember dehaze usually significantly darkens).
    This gives me results I usually like a lot more than Iris enhance because it does more to bring out the texture of the irises.

    • @juliatrotti
      @juliatrotti  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you and yeah dehaze can work really well on the iris too!

    Love your edits 👍 the last thing in Ps was It dodge and burn or Frequency sep..?

    • @juliatrotti
      @juliatrotti  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! I used frequency for the skin retouching and afterwards a little bit of dodge and burn to enhance where the highlights and shadows of the image were! There were parts of her eyes that were still too dark for my liking and parts of her hair and background that were too bright as well, so I evened it all out. I linked my latest PS skin retouching tutorial in the description in case you missed it - this is the current process that I use with freq separation :)

    Julia what's your opinion on reducing subtle colours in portraits? I feel like it makes the picture look a lot cleaner but at the same time creates some colour inconsistency.

    • @juliatrotti
      @juliatrotti  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you mean via HSL Saturation? I think you have to be a bit careful when you use the sliders there, especially in red and orange, as pulling one up and not the other can cause skin tones to look really patchy. I always say to play it by eye while you're editing as every picture is different. If you're unsure, it always helps to look switch the before and after for that particular adjustment to see if it's changing too much and also zooming in to 100% to make sure you're not getting any banding/patchiness.

    • @mason7031
      @mason7031 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@juliatrotti I didn't mean reducing reds and oranges as they're mainly skin colours. What I meant was that reducing, for examples, magentas and cyans in some golden hour portrait shots because they are very subtle. I often do it because it makes the picture a lot cleaner. So I was asking your opinion on this.

    I'd be interested in the order of steps. Everyone's different i know. You effectively do the reverse of me. I start by re-touching in Photoshop and then apply all the Lightroom adjustments because i want the lightroom adjustments to be editable after the retouching is done. I notice you do the retouching at the end. Doesn't that mean that if you then decide you want to make a change to the colours and light as a result of having done the retouching...you can't?
