One of my favorite games of all time. Few games have ever made me cry, and this was one of them, and it wasn't even a sad moment that did me in. After coming down a snowcapped mountain I had just a few hills to go to get to where I was going, and after reaching the top of the last hill I saw my destination at the bottom when it hit me...after 13 hours of playing I finally understood what the game was trying to tell me, and without any further provocation the tears started streaming. He apparently had a lot of story left to tell, and had to find catharsis for the pain of his betrayal, and who better than Guillermo del Toro to help tell it? Love the video as always!

@Vitoko It was also about money - Konami realised they could make more money from low budget casino games than expensive triple A games. They kept cutting funding and reducing the scope of Kojima's projects.
Kojima games take 15 years to fully udnerstand. This a Hideo Kojima game. His games are usually about the story going on a journey of selfdiscovery to find out what its about and ending on the cusp of finding out. Its entertaining though...
Death Stranding is an astounding game. At first, extremely confusing and frustrating, but as I continued I found myself absorbed into Kojima's universe. DS is filled with excellent actors, a fabulous soundtrack to walk along to, and an incredibly intriguing story set in a graphically stunning world. I finished up with my Platinum trophy and sobbed my way through the final quest. An astounding experience which really resonated with me ❤
"Is this a movie or a game?" Funny thing is, before getting into video game production, Hideo Kojima did try getting into the film industry, but he didn't have the money or family/friend support structure for it. As the game development tech improved allowing for more cinematic games, he started coming out with things like the cinematic Metal Gear Solid games and the heavily anime-inspired Zone of Enders series until Konami cut ties with him in 2015 in a remarkably abusive way, even barring him from attending the Video Game Awards to accept his awards for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Death Stranding was his first cinematic game after he created his own game studio.
It's quite curious how many people criticise Kojima for his cinematics and "Go make movies". But really his games have always had interesting and well developed gameplay elements. Including Death Stranding.
@@r.daneel.90 It wasn’t criticism. It was acknowledgement of his history. If he had the support structure he wanted and needed when trying to get into the film industry, he probably would have never gotten into the game industry.
Honestly with her focus on storytelling vs gameplay and such I need Hannah to react to Nier: Automata. That game sucked me deep into the story and then I cried a bunch at some of the endings.
In the next episode: Non Gamer Tries to Understand Death Stranding Btw, the game is practically an 11-hour long movie, you can try to watch this if you can handle it
Hideo Kojima is an infamous game director. He made an artform out of overly long monolouges, convoluted stories and not being able to keep something short. Although He occasionaly hits some meaningfull themes and topics just by the sheer amount of words and material he crams in his games. Somehow he's at the same time over- and underrated.
This is one of my favourite games in recent years, heart wrenching, sprinkled with sadness and hope, a testing of human character..... deceit, betrayal, or not, it throws you on and off the track, your head never knows what is right and what is wrong and the lead up to the finish and the kind of finish is probably one of the most epic gaming experiences in recent years. Mind blowing fantastic game, huge story, great videos, highs, lows and everything in between........ I loved it
I just deleted a long-ass "brief" summary of what happens in this game. Even I ended up confused, and I know what's going on. The only way to explain it is to play it. For 50 hours. Like I did. I would not do it again! Run, Hannah! Save yourself!!!
After rewatching this reaction its def worthwhile for you to watch all the official trailers if the world caught your interest. Each one is thought provoking imo especially when u dont know the circumstances. Even better maybe if u watch chronologically so your confusion will mirror what everyone had as they were announced/released.
150 hours later and I'm still roleplaying a delivery guy. This game is beautiful. If you don't cry at some points I would question your ability to experience anything
If you wanna know more, I can wholeheartedly recommend Girlfriend Reviews' video on this game. It not only explains what this game is about, but also the beautiful story behind why Kojima made it so weird and sometimes even frustrating to play.
I love this game. The crazy thing about this trailer is you could watch it before playing and barely understand or follow what's happening. However, once you beat the game and know the whole story this trailer becomes an 8 minute synopsis of the entire experience. I literally tear up every time I watch this trailer recalling all the emotions I felt through the duration of the game's journey. As a fan of the game I found your reaction both satisfying and completely justified 😂😂
I love how this is such a typical Hideo Kojima trailer in structure. If you’ve seen the trailers for Metal Gear Solid 2-4 you know what I’m talking about.
The main concept of the game is that the rain rapidly ages whatever it touches and these weird monster things are also out and about so people specifically outfitted and trained to deliver stuff and connect the steelments travel through the empty expanses to make sure everyone gets what they want/need and they all stay connected
They just released the novelization of this game and I'm on my second read. This narrative driven games like this is what keeps me in gaming. In my opinion it's brilliant 👏🏾.
One of the best games I've ever played and one of the best stories I've ever had the honour to experience. Yes, Hideo Kojima is an eccentric madman, but his games are masterpieces.
It is difficult to talk about Death Stranding, not only because it is one of my favorite games, but also because of the way it messed with my mind. I started this game hating almost everything about it, and I finished it absolutely in love with it. This is a very complex game that takes you on a journey not only to understand the story but also to understand the characters and their motivations, from Sams avoidance of touching other people to the insanity of Higgs. If I would define Death Stranding in one sentence I would say: "It is a game about the journey of a broken man learning how to smile and have fun traveling on zip lines".
Its pretty amazing when you can fill an entire trailer with huge spoilers and still spoil nothing because nothing makes sense. That an accomplishment in itself.
Death Stranding is a completely new type of action game, where the goal of the player is to reconnect isolated cities and a fragmented society. ... As Sam Porter Bridges, you will attempt to bridge the divides in society, and in doing create new bonds or “Strands” with other players around the globe. And your character Sam carries a small baby in an orange bottle strapped to his chest. It stays with him at all times. The child, called a BB, is essentially a tool: it alerts Sam to ghostly apparitions called BTs, which dot the post-apocalyptic landscape he must traverse.
"Is this a movie or a game?" Let's just say that after you complete the game, there's a feature length scene that finally explains what the hell is going on. Amd it still makes little sense.
This game is definitely a masterpiece narratively and the game play is so awesome. Your reaction to this game is it’s awesome enjoy your perspective on the outside looking in. I subscribed to your channel today.
This game helped me through 2020, I'm dead serious about that. Look for the trailer with Apocalyptica - Path as background music, it is less stressful and more "heroic"
I'm so glad that you've finally got to this trailer. I wrote a plot description a few minutes ago, but the app closed on me for some reason, so that 10 minutes was wasted. Like someone else suggested, there is a great Girlfriend's Review that talks about the games themes, without spoiling the plot, and it's my favorite review of the game. Death Stranding was my 2019 game of the year. Plot synopsis: In the future humans discover that we all have metaphorical beaches, a limbo of some sort, that connect us to the land of the dead. But one day the dead start using those beaches to come back over to the land of the living. The incident is called the Death Stranding. When the antimatter of the dead touches the matter of living beings, huge explosions occur. Thus driving the remaining people to live underground in city sized bunkers, or smaller ones. The only way to transport stuff now is human carriers, which the protagonist Sam is. Sam is also the son of the president. The dying president tasks Sam with a mission, to travel across the country and connect these bunkers via a network that uses the chiralium the dead leave in the atmosphere. The network allows for instant transport of non organic material. Connecting all the bunkers, thus connecting America again. So you spend the game being a courier of sorts, going across the country, gaining the trust of people, so you can put them on the network. There are more story and plot beats, but that's the starting point. Also you were right about the babies in the glass containers. They are premature and the containers simulate a mother's womb. Being premature, the babies sort of have a connection to the lands of the living and dead, so the harness the container is attached to uses that connection to let couriers know that the dead is nearby, even b4 there is visual confirmation. And because the dead go in and out of sight.
Great reaction. We need more non gamer to react to this type of game n soon they will realise about how amazing video game nowadays can be cuz most of the people keep saying IT’S JUST A VIDEO GAME NO NEED TO GET HYPED
I’ve never played it, but I can tell what was explained to me: the game is by Japanese developer Hideo Kojima, most known for the Metal Gear Solid franchise. One day, death broke and ghosts showed up and exploded, setting off a chain reaction of making more ghosts who also exploded, now there’s a mass extinctions on Earth. You are the son of the President, the dying lady in the White House, and your mission is travelling across America delivering things. You can’t sense the ghosts, but baby can, so you gotta travel with them. Kojima is famous for absurd names, some of the Characters are named Die-Hardman, Fragile, Feels-Badman. Being inscrutable is definitely part of the brand.
Dat Norman Reedus from The Walking Dead lol. And the baby is called BB(Bridge Baby): babies taken out of mothers before full-term, the mother kept in a coma and connected to the baby so it feels like it's still in the womb; a connection between life and death for people so they can see BT's (Bridge Things) the black, ghost-like things.
This game shows how far humans are willing to go to avert total extinction. Someone has to, so why not us? That's what Death Stranding is. Doing whatever you have to to circumvent the final extinction event. Making deliveries, making connections, bringing humanity together to prevent total annihilation.
I'm loving your reaction to this as much as I did your 40k video. As opposed to Warhammer, however, Death Stranding would be a game, at least in its overall story, that I think you would enjoy greatly as it is all about making connections and bringing people together as communities.
That looked like a highlights video, not a trailer. As one that played the entire game, it covered so much, that you practically don't have to play the game. It still managed to leave some critical things in the dark.

usually when you watch a 3 minute movie trailer you can guess the whole plot of that movie while kojima can give you a freakin 8 minute game trailer and that trailer just made you confused like an idiot unless you played the game, the game itself is truly a piece of art and one of the best experience I've got from a video game, kojima just made a game about delivery guy saving the world by delivering shit and made it a piece of art, the whole gameplay is like reading a novel or some sort of survivor diaries, the story is something that you can't get anywhere else it's so unique and bizarre, literary one of the best game out there.
I remember having really long discussions with my wife about the possible plots of the game. It was really fun throwing theories at each other And when we finally got the chance to play it, oh Lord, it was truly a unique experience.
it's a playable movie. same with Quantum Break. highly recommend watching. when i was playing it there were almost equal parts of cut scene to gameplay. i'm sure finding a compilation of the cinematics would be a piece of cake. take care Hannah hope you're doing well :)
Death Stranding is kind of game that *"you need to sit back and relax"*, because of the majority of the gameplay is by walking delivering some cargo and watching the plot. The scenery isn't bad too, reminds me of Iceland.
The easiest way to explain the plot of the game... A huge disaster linked the land of the dead with the land of the living. So the land of the dead is leaking into our world, and this contaminates the area and makes it impossible to live in. Corrupted souls inhabit those areas and attack the living. When people die they must be cremated quickly or a huge explosion and influx of the land of the dead will happen, and it can wipe out entire settlements. Can't remember why this is said to happen, but I believe it was something to do with the soul leaving the body and causing a bad reaction somehow. It also occasionally rains time in contaminated areas, the rain ages everything it touches. The main character delivers supplies between settlements, and is recruited to help link together an advanced wireless computer network between settlements across the country. He has a keen sense of the invisible ghosts that roam the areas, so he has an advantage over most people when traveling. Fun fact, the experiments into the advanced instant wireless transmission tech that makes the network function, was the cause of the disaster in the first place. The baby in the container is a BB... It is half dead and half alive, so it has a connection with the land of the dead and can sense the ghosts strongly. They are connected to sensors that help people navigate the dangerous areas. The BBs come into being by being extracted from women who die while pregnant. This is a very simplified overview of the plot and story. The guy who created this game puts in a lot of story in the games he makes, and you can get several hours of cutscenes when playing through his games.
you know, the executives at Konami might be kicking themselves in the nuts for saying no to Kojima. .....that, or, breathing a sigh of relief. one or the other. I mean, ....it's Kojima... the guy has no middle grounds.
It's a game it has enough storyline in it for about 10 movies. Also "What is Happening?" describes perfectly pretty much every Hideo Kojima game. He's one of the most well known and well liked game designers. His games are not for everyone, but they always are very popular.
Yes, the trailer brings more question than answers. It's a cinematic game, a playable movie. The story is complex, but when you finish the game, everything makes sense (i got most of things, but it's common to not understand everything when it comes to a Kojima game, some things I had to read in a Death Stranding wiki). I cried at the ending, it's a beautiful game and has a great soundtrack. The trailer song, BB's Theme, made sense with the game story. Recommended!
Have you ever thought about doing game cutscene watch throughs? You do trailers but maybe you could do cutscene reactions, of course that'll probably be less often because of how long they can be but it would honestly be a pretty cool idea, make a list of trailers you found really intriguing and then sort through them and find which one to react to. Maybe even make a poll for which one as well. I would love to see that
You have pretty much the same reaction to this as everyone else 😂. Hideo Kojima makes great games with great story telling, but it's so confusing until the end. I'd recommend watching a play through/cut scene watch along. It'll take a while to get through, maybe in several sittings, but thoroughly worth it. Is it a film? Yes, but with gameplay 🙂.
"Is this a movie or a game?!" That always seems to be an appropriate question with Hideo Kojima, especially since he always has had aspirations of being a film director. His stuff always happens to be a mind screw for that matter.
Director Kojima is famous for confusing quirky plots. The story of Death Stranding is a sci-fi masterpiece imo but depending on who you ask the game is either a boring walking simulator or an epic cerebral emotional journey with deep meaning. I'm in the latter category.
It’s sure that it’s hard to tell a complex story without a cutscene or some text to give you more informations. It’s not a coincidence that most games don’t have cutscene if not none. After that, it’s up to you to guess if it’s because of the lack of story that prevent any kind of serious story-telling or a lack of budget, knowing that most of triple AAA games are made by companies with billions of dollars of worth.
You should react to all the other Death Stranding trailers, not because they'll be any more enlightening or any less confusing, but simply because it'll be entertaining (for your audience).
"I've got nothing" Don't worry, even people who finished the game say that. The trailers were phenomenally unhelpful in regards to what the game was about, and playing it wasn't as revealing as the players had hoped. It just doesn't make sense. And it seemingly isn't supposed to.
It does make sense, it’s just that, if you were used to Kojima games and already played the previous ones, you’d know there are a lot of metaphors in his games. There are also a lot of hidden details and if you don’t pay enough attention, you wouldn’t understand some stuff going on in the main story. For example, MGS2 is a criticism of America, our era of information, global politics and a lot of other things but almost nobody understood that when the game was released. And it’s like that for the majority of his games.
it absolutely makes sense. The whole game is a metaphor for loneliness in the age of technology wrapped up in religious motifs about death or our mortality and how we as a species are doomed no matter what we try and do so why not just rip the band-aid off fast and get it over with? It does a great job of showing the themes of helplessness that's rife during the 21st century, how technology can hinder our human connections with one another but also help in some ways. The other aspect of human consumption, overproduction, and pollution being almost certainly a self-paved path to destruction is also heavily implied throughout the entire game. If you've got the attention span of a pet goldfish then sure the game is weird crazy black oil creatures and baby's in pods that doesn't make sense. But if you give it even 5 minutes of attention it's pretty clear what the entire point of the game was and what mindset Kojima had when creating it.
Get ready for a rollercoaster of deep emotions. This game is in my top 3 games list of all time; I’ve been playing video games all my life, and I can assure you, no other game out there has given me such experience

3:04 - Yes, you do. That's Norman Reedus of The Walking Dead fame, was one of the brothers in The Boondock Saints.
5:27 - "Is this a movie or a game?!" Yes. Hideo Kojima left Konami, leaving the game that had been hinted at by the Playable Teaser (PT/Silent Hills PT). He apparently had a lot of story left to tell, and had to find catharsis for the pain of his betrayal, and who better than Guillermo del Toro to help tell it?
Love the video as always!
🙏🏼❤️
Im not all that informed about Hideo Kojima and Konami what happened? Also is DS the game that was hinted at by the PT?
@Vitoko Ohh wow so that's what happened. Ill take your word for it. Also you're English is pretty good. Not the best but enough for me to get the right idea
@@TheBroGamer14082 kojima spend too much money on metal gear V and another guy made millions from a mobile pay to win app, so konami forced kojima to release an unfinished game and leave soon after, but he still had the actors and directors for silent hills, but it got canceled, so he made death stranding
@Vitoko It was also about money - Konami realised they could make more money from low budget casino games than expensive triple A games. They kept cutting funding and reducing the scope of Kojima's projects.
Kojima games take 15 years to fully udnerstand. The dude always seems insane when looking at his new games, but then after many years they end up predicting political and social situations of decay then we all wonder why we didn't understand back then, then repeat. The dudes a mix between a madman, a genius, and a time traveller.
It's because we look for meaning in places where there is none.
@@TheCooderix I'm sure many thought there was no meaning in Metal gear Solid 2 aswell back in 2001. Now look at it.

Death stranding shows us what humans would look like if we actually worked as a team instead of treating each other as a competitor.
In a post apocalyptic world with ageing rain. Got it.

This a Hideo Kojima game. His games are usually about the story going on a journey of selfdiscovery to find out what its about and ending on the cusp of finding out. Its entertaining though...
"WHAT IS HAPPENING?"
"IS THIS A MOVIE OR A GAME?"
Perfectly normal responses to seeing Hideo Kojima's work.
I see. So he is like Christopher Nolan but as a videogame developer
@@himayamata Not sure I see the comparison.
It's quite curious how many people criticise Kojima for his cinematics and "Go make movies". But really his games have always had interesting and well developed gameplay elements. Including Death Stranding.
@@JGronli Both has crazy and interesting ideas for a film/story
@@r.daneel.90 It wasn’t criticism. It was acknowledgement of his history. If he had the support structure he wanted and needed when trying to get into the film industry, he probably would have never gotten into the game industry.
Honestly with her focus on storytelling vs gameplay and such I need Hannah to react to Nier: Automata. That game sucked me deep into the story and then I cried a bunch at some of the endings.
Yep, a day of silence followed by 'What!' is the only response.
The response you get when you finish the whole game lol

I love how out of all the trailers they have for this game, this one actually is the one that makes the most sense lmao.
Non gamer person: idk what’s happening
Hardcore gamers before playing the game: :idk what’s happening
I loved it
There is not always a good and a bad guy. Most of the times, every character as its own objective, which could be not be classified as good and evil.
Picked this up beginning of the year and played it all the way through absolute masterpiece loved it. Went into my top games of all time
The constant state of WTF is sustained throughout the game. The answers don't begin forming until after 30 hours of game play. And I love it.
Also this trailer was probably the least creepy of the release trailers 😂
8:40 the awkward silence kicked in haha i loved your reaction 😂👍
150 hours later and I'm still roleplaying a delivery guy. This game is beautiful. If you don't cry at some points I would question your ability to experience anything
Welcome to the mind of game designer icon Hideo kojima
Honestly "what?!" is the word for pretty much everything involving Hideo Kojima xDDD also your face throughout the entire thing was priceless, 10/10
As a fan of the game I found your reaction both satisfying and completely justified 😂😂
check out other trailers and the rest of kojima's work as well. Man's a true artist
This game is so chill , all you do is walk , but the terrain feels like a real world and not just a character running across a platform
When you finish the game, you need to come back to this trailer . This game is a masterpiece!
"Is this a movie or a game?"
Let's just say that after you complete the game, there's a feature length scene that finally explains what the hell is going on.
Amd it still makes little sense.
This game is definitely a masterpiece narratively and the game play is so awesome. Your reaction to this game is it’s awesome enjoy your perspective on the outside looking in.
I subscribed to your channel today.
Lindsay Wagner (playing the blonde in the game) was the original Bionic Woman btw, back in the 70s.
First time I saw you speechless after watching a trailer and in a good way.
Hannah: Is this a movie or a game?!
Everyone: Both! A star studded game.
Was excited for this one
This game helped me through 2020, I'm dead serious about that. Look for the trailer with Apocalyptica - Path as background music, it is less stressful and more "heroic"
Please react to Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice Official Xbox One Trailer
Watching both the Hellblade: Senua's Scarifice and its sequal trailers back to back is CRAZY
I would love to see Hannah finds someone who makes a Let´s Play with her. The other person is playing and Hannah goes as crazy as Senua. =P
The look of utter confusion is so fucking priceless. Welcome to Hideo Kojima.
Plot synopsis:
In the future humans discover that we all have metaphorical beaches, a limbo of some sort, that connect us to the land of the dead.
Thank you!
Great reaction. We need more non gamer to react to this type of game n soon they will realise about how amazing video game nowadays can be cuz most of the people keep saying IT’S JUST A VIDEO GAME NO NEED TO GET HYPED
I can't here this song without tearing up anymore

"Is this a movie or a game?" ..It's art from Hideo Kojima.
This is awesome!! It took me 3 months to pass this game and what an adventure I had.
5:16, that actually is the definition of the game haha, Hideo Kojima sure can be wierd sometimes, but damn do I love his games 8:47 aswell
Me: Hears you say, "Death Stranding Trailer."
Also me: There will be great confusion.
"Is this a movie or a game?"
I don't think Kojima even knows the answer to that
Post-apocalypse show that usps, UPS and FedEx will alway be around. Welcome to the post office.
That looked like a highlights video, not a trailer. As one that played the entire game, it covered so much, that you practically don't have to play the game. It still managed to leave some critical things in the dark.
I recommend checking out the other Death Stranding trailers! They reveal more of the story (which might actually make you confused more) and they are still fun to watch. Here's a list:

This is one of the best pieces of art i have consumed
everyone who couldnt keep on keeping on: "the game is just a walking simulator". everyone who completed the game "Holy crap what a game im dumbfounded".
usually when you watch a 3 minute movie trailer you can guess the whole plot of that movie while kojima can give you a freakin 8 minute game trailer and that trailer just made you confused like an idiot unless you played the game, the game itself is truly a piece of art and one of the best experience I've got from a video game, kojima just made a game about delivery guy saving the world by delivering shit and made it a piece of art, the whole gameplay is like reading a novel or some sort of survivor diaries, the story is something that you can't get anywhere else it's so unique and bizarre, literary one of the best game out there.
Hannah: WHAT?!
You know, I finished this game to a 100% and I’m not sure I get it either
You should watch the pre-release teasers, they totally explain everything!
Awesome reaction, as always ^ ^
Is it a movie? Yes. It is a game? Yes it is. When you play/watch a Hideo Kojima game, expect weirdness with a touch of genius.
Most concise way to describe Hideo Kojima's games is it's Sci Fi slam poetry. You wont get all of it, but it makes you think.
I would love to see that
If David Lynch was a game designer he would be Hideo Kojima
You have pretty much the same reaction to this as everyone else 😂. Hideo Kojima makes great games with great story telling, but it's so confusing until the end. I'd recommend watching a play through/cut scene watch along. It'll take a while to get through, maybe in several sittings, but thoroughly worth it.
Is it a film? Yes, but with gameplay 🙂.
"Is this a movie or a game?!"
That always seems to be an appropriate question with Hideo Kojima, especially since he always has had aspirations of being a film director. His stuff always happens to be a mind screw for that matter.
The silence at the end was priceless haha. xD Thanks Hannah. ^_^
You're most welcome
Director Kojima is famous for confusing quirky plots. The story of Death Stranding is a sci-fi masterpiece imo but depending on who you ask the game is either a boring walking simulator or an epic cerebral emotional journey with deep meaning. I'm in the latter category.
Wow good for you, I guess?
She’s watched so many of these, she might turn into a gamer
I think people recommended this because they knew you would get confused. Hell, I'm still confused.
This was the gaming communitys same reactions when watching the first trailers... "I is confusion"😂
🤣🤣
I couldn't finish this game. I felt like I was watching an 11 hour movie rather than playing a game.
This game is something else, is far beyond than the nowdays games. It is a journey.
You should react to all the other Death Stranding trailers, not because they'll be any more enlightening or any less confusing, but simply because it'll be entertaining (for your audience).
Hideo Kojima is a game designer who loves symbolism but hates subtlety.
"I've got nothing"
Don't worry, even people who finished the game say that.
