"The stick is the first tool that mankind created to put distance between himself and bad things - to protect himself," Kojima said.
"The second tool mankind created is a rope. A rope is a tool used to secure things that are important to you.”
"Most of your tools in action games are sticks. You punch or you shoot or you kick. The communication is always through these sticks," Kojima continued.
"I want people to be connected not through sticks, but through what would be the equivalent of ropes."
Man had a deliberate agenda with the combat

There is stealth and combat in the game, and many options to approach both, and tactical factors to consider before engaging in them.
However, it is a slow paced game, especially the first 10 hours or so in the "tutorial area". Horror? No. Stress, tension, and being scared? Yes.
Also being scared for reasons you can't imagine yet. You'll constantly choose between weight and what items to carry, what route to traverse and so on.
The game walks you through two mysteries to "solve"; one that is hard to figure out until the reveals, and one that is far easier and still kicks hard.
Then there is a third mystery that no player will even discover during a single playthrough. Cryptic? Oh you have no idea. Kafkaesque to the extreme.
If you can endure slow paced games and just play it for the chills, I *HIGHLY* recommend this game. I'm only obsessed with Death Stranding and Outer Wilds.
And if you do, see it all the way through. Or even beyond the end. The story - stories - will blow your socks off. Very unique game in all respects.
If being negative about it, you could call it a delivery/traversal simulator with steal and combat elements. But not a walking simulator as genre is already taken.
And do have popcorn ready. The cutscenes are nuts long - and contains tons of clues so pay attention - with the ending being like a two hour long movie.
Several I've watched (40+ let's plays, yeah I'm obsessed) describe it as "not a game of the year, but a game of the decade, and an experience of a lifetime".
If this is on a "I don't know yet", I recommend watching yongyea's spoiler free review of it.
Story spoiler free, but some "emotional spoilers", can be provided by Mike Mohamed thoughts on the game after the ending. Watch at own risk.

Just to name a few: I've played through Monster Hunter 3u, Monster Hunter 4U, Monster Hunter Generations, Monster Hunter World + Iceborne. I've also played through Demon's Souls Remake, Dark Souls 1/2/3, Bloodborne, Sekiro (4 times), Elden Ring. All games that are based around combat with deep combat systems. As far as shooters go: I used to play a lot of Counter Strike 1.6/Source Battlefield 3 online and in Battlefield 4, at one point, managed to get into the worldwide top 10% of players with the most knife kills.
Yet, Death Stranding is a great game. I understand it won't hit the same for everyone but for me: the score, the soundtrack, the voice acting, the mocap, and yes, even the gameplay is amazing. Never before have I wanted to unite a broken nation with a postal network until this game.
At the end of it, like The Last of Us 2, like Outer Wilds, like Cyberpunk 2077, it's definitely a game that has stayed with me after the credits rolled.

As a huge fan of Death Stranding, here are my thoughts: I absolutely love this game, but it's obviously not for everyone and that's fine. It's got a very specific vibe, and I found the gameplay loop incredibly relaxing (there's a unique sense of isolation and cosiness about walking around the beautiful environments), satisfying (building up your own network of roads and tools, with the anonymous help of other players, to expedite the delivery process) and occasionally tense as hell (sneaking through BT-infested ruins, stealing supplies from enemy camps, full-on battles against shades of the dead).
I've got hundreds of hours in this game, and I'd happily spend hundreds more if I hadn't already done literally everything there is to do, so I can't wait for the sequel. The criticism of it being too slow-paced doesn't mean much to me tbh: it was never advertised as an action-heavy game, yet some people seemingly still went into it expecting it to be something it wasn't. The way I see it, I'd rather play something unique like this than another mindless action shooter.
In terms of the story, if you actually put some time and thought into understanding it, it's really not that complicated; it's veiled in vague and confusing imagery, but that's the point. By the time the credits roll, everything becomes clear. The characters are all great too, either despite or because of their occasional goofiness depending on your taste. Personally, I've played enough Kojima to get what he was going for. In amidst the wackiness, all of the characters have a huge amount of heart if you're willing to play the game without cynicism and with an open mind, and I found myself in full-on tears multiple times throughout.
I admire that you're willing to admit if this doesn't appeal to you - I wish some people would have a similar level of self-awareness instead of crapping on the game for not being what they wanted it to be, or dismissing it as "walking simulator" when there's so much more to it than that. But whatever to each their own; I'm not saying it's for everyone, and it's definitely not perfect, but I unapologetically love it.
    Thanks for the video :)

From someone who's poured literally 250+ hours into this beautiful game. There is a decent amount of combat in the game although that wasn't the focus overall and I'm actually okay with that. From the engaging world and traversing it, the story itself, it's beautifully placed music, and the various obstacles in your way you couldn't help but be connected to the world of Death Stranding. Another awesome feature centered around connection was when you created something in your gameplay from vehicles, ziplines, and weapons. Other players in their own game could use what you've built and in return give you likes and vice versa. Something about that positive loop is just addicting honestly. You did a good job trying to piece together what this game is about which probably would have Hideo Kojima sweating nervously back when this game was being advertised lol. Gotta respect that from what you've observed that it may not be something to engage in and play. Hell as you've mentioned in this video this game has no middle ground you're either interested or not. Also give you props that you didn't just crap on the game like so many others who haven't even played it because it was the band wagoning thing to do (which ironically many other those haters ended up playing it later on just to say they loved it A LOT). With that being said I truly do hope you'll change your mind one day and say F it and give it a shot (one day). IMO with what was going on with him being let go from CrapNami and having to rebuild his own studio along with Covid was a thing. He created Death Stranding with the themes of connection between people, isolation, life, and death. This game is more fun to experience than to watch and with DS2 being worked on. Hideo said that DS2 will question if we should have connected at all which will be intriguing to see him tackle. All in all really enjoyed your Death Stranding guessing vid- props 🤙
Tl; dr : really loved your guesses you actually nailed some stuff from the info given. You have a really good Eagle eye for this stuff. 😅

omg hahaha thank you for the kinds world Ultima! 😇 Yeah it's either a love/hate game. I think I like more combat tbh but I didn't know that you could "interact" with the other players in the game. kinda reminds me of elden ring where... well you can see where characters died haha i guess you can't really play with what they built. Pretty cool though, would have never guessed it.
MAYBE I'll try it, it's definitely at the back of the roster. The glory of these video series is that i get interested in games I was never interested in before. But thanks for watching 😭 means the world 💛

I'm actually quite impressed on what you guessed right given that these trailers were mostly cryptic lol (I won't say what you got right just in case you DO decide to play it for yourself).
As far as the gameplay is concerned, you're correct that it's not a fast paced action game - and I'm glad you picked up on that because I feel like a lot of people that were disappointed in this game had the wrong expectations. It has it's moments when it comes to action, but the game has a very deliberate goal on bringing people together since everyone is essentially isolated from one another, so it wouldn't make sense for it to be heavy on the combat.
It's still VERY worth playing imo - a very imaginative, engaging, and original story, and more fun than you would think despite it being slow paced.
