As an answer to why Amsterdam is able to deal with so much traffic, the mindset in VATEU is very different from in VATUSA. What VATEU likes to do is hold all arrivals above the terminal airspace, while VATUSA tries to minimize airborne holding and keep people on the ground. I don’t know if I fully agree with VATUSA’s philosophy but as a VATSIM controller in the US that’s generally the mindset event planners and traffic management uses

Amsterdam is designed pretty well, so arrivals can be sequenced well, and departures are usually okay to deal with because of the many runways and many ways to get there. I hope to see you in EHAM soon!

I just realized you was literally on caption will live. In the beginning he’s the one sitting in the JetBlue a320 n literally was sitting there for a gate hold for about a hr n he was number 9 for pushback. Also that “767” was a buddy of mine SPY. But yea it was 777 lol

I was flying into BWI for this event. When I landed and switched to ground they were telling people it would be over an hour to push. These FNO's have gotten so big that I generally start from a non event airport and try to arrive an hour or so into the start of the FNO. Otherwise the ground traffic out of these fields is atrocious.

I was in the “Live, Laugh, Luton” event, 3 hour delay. Just decided to do the flight in reverse, so I decided to then do a VFR circuits into Luton and cause more delay because why not 😂

well i waited 1 hour and half at LHR just to get clearance once, and another hour just to get push plus the half preflight hour
Crazy traffic. You‘re not wrong about euro airports handling that much traffic way better, I feel like either the sequencing is stupid or the atc is just not willing to put a little more work into it in the US. Events in europe or the middle east seem to handle it way better since munich had more than 200 arrivals for Cross the Land and it went pretty well. Waiting for more than an hour is wild already but all those pilots having to wait even longer is outrageous. I cant remember any Frankfurt, Heathrow, Paris or Dubai event where it was this bad😅
Yeah that is what confused me, Amsterdam non event btw handled over 200 pilots pretty well.

At the time of our clearance request there were like 30 departures scheduled in vatspy and we waited 50 minutes to get away from the gate. They are just sooo slow when it comes to take off sequencing its mindboggling to me😅
