Only because you mentioned it otherwise I wouldn’t have said anything. When using the filler ya want to rub in across the grain. Then we would use burlap to wipe of filler again across the grain. But sanding yes go with the grain. But if you use a scraper maybe use a plastic bondo applicator to avoid possibly scratching the wood. Just my two cents worth. Enjoying the video never the less.
You take a big risk to use regular tan masking tape instead of blue 3M 2090 painter's tape. At issues are the types of adhesives used by the different tapes, and the crispness of the edge. Tan tape can rip off the fonish from the surface. It's a very tight-gripping adhesive. An issue to watch out for when using blue painter's tape is that it doesn't like to stick to itself. A nice substitute is green Frog Tape. It has a nice, crisp edge. It's adhesive will stick to itself and, like blue painter's tape, it's rated for freshly (dried) sprayed surfaces. I'm a longtime finisher (cabinets,, furniture, pianos, millwork) and a consultant to the trades.
You should not have grain filled and painted the neck pocket and neck tenon. Wood glue is most effective bare wood to bare wood. Could have saved yourself a lot of work by taping those joints off. Even sanding them off, after the fact, risks that grain filler and paint are still in the pores, possibly contaminating your neck joint. Other than that, strong work, as usual! I really enjoy the channel. Love the color!! 🤘
I have seen the Nitorlack products before, probably on this channel LOL. I fancy having a go with these products, I built a Wilkinson higher end Tele Kit from Stew Mac and used their Nitro products as I got a very genourous discount having bought the kit, I fancy doing another kit guitar, a set neck V guitar might be the one as I love Gibson Flying V headstocks and hope I can get one similar in a kit, Im all for straight string pull or as straight as possible! One thing I noticed while you were spraying the primer, you didn't make full sweeps across the body and starting and stopping before and after the length of the body, this needs to be done as if you stop or start part way across the body you get heavy particles on the surface, also always follow the recommended distance to spray the product at, this is important as the larger paint particles fall away and don't hit the surface
Thanks for your comment and all the usefull tips. You are right in all you say! If I didn´t do it I did a sloppy job! :) You should do a Flying V. I liked Rocktiles kit cause it had the right shape for a V, the body and the headstock.
I just did a detailed video on a perfectly flat surface on a ibanez jem kit guitar on making grain in the guitar disappear. Check it out. I just started watching your channel. Good stuff buddy. Coming from another guitar builder to another.
@TheworldofMattias also if I'm missing anything ge sure to tell me also. Everyone has ther own methods. I'm a master carpenter and finish carpenter in Florida and by the looks of your shop your looking like a wood craftsmans also.
The neck and neck cavity are fitted to be tight. You might want to tape them off before painting to avoid having to sand them. Great video! Cool logo!
Thanks man, good tip!
Hi Matty:
Super-retro color choice!
Great job and a very informative video.
I’m not finished with this guitar just yet. I have a plan and I think it’ll be good!

why didn’t you seal or prime it?
I don’t care for sealants an I didn’t prime it just because I didn’t have it at home at the time. 🎸
How much was that guitar kit ? Nice..
It was around $100.
I've never plastered my walls, so I wouldn't ever get past the first stage with the grain filler!😂
Haha, no you would! 💪👊
