Thank you, Jenn. Brilliant, as always. I use Voice Isolation but learned a lot by watching your different ambient tests - the wind test particularly made an impression because of the difference in the low and high registers of the voices.
I'm currently directing a documentary feature film and I use voice isolation as much as possible. It has made a tremendous difference especially when you don't have time to chase over locations for the best possible sound especially when you are interviewing subjects. It's a great feature whether you make documentaries or even narratives with actors.
when my client likes to vlog he uses his cell phone with the built in mic, voice isolation was not perfect, but I could hear his words much better inside a gym, a busy outside restaurant, and echoing kitchen. One thing I did not understand was voice isolation only worked when the audio was in stereo; that's how it is recorded on your phone. I change it to dual mono and isolation is not available to be used.
It saves me every week. My church has bad electrical, noisy lights and it’s next to an interstate highway. You’d think that the Hum or Noise removal tools would work best to eliminate the hum, but Voice Isolation works better.
Great results. You can always fine tune afterwards with the equaliser in FCPX And for the wind noise, always use a mike with a dead cat ! Thanks for sharing.
What a great test and demonstration, thanks!! I use it quite a lot for my travel films in Africa where I’m outside a lot and wind is a constant problem… a little is best, never 100! 😊
I tried the Adobe Podcast Ai one, currently in beta and free to try... It's much better than the one in FCP... Although the FCP one has been a life saver since I started using it. It just can't remove the reverb that the Adobe Ai does better. Love your content! Cheers! Gator
Voice Isolation has been a blessing on many of my projects! It's definitely not perfect and when used on certain audio cuts, you have to be careful with weird transients. Best results happen when I go in and EQ before applying the voice isolation. Great video! Thanks, Jenn!
Had a similar situation with wind during a photo session at a wedding. I checked the Equalization box and switched over to voice enhance. Do you recommend to keep this unchecked and keeping as flat rather than voice enhanced?
Some most interesting experiments. Even though VI is not absolutely perfect in all cases, it is so much better than trying to kill the noise manually. Thank you for this tutorial. Have a great Christmas and New Year!
Great video. I am making some audio (voiceover ) tutorials. Voice isolation seems to be a great one to remove background noise. But I mostly have to speed up ( cmt+R) for my slow & boring speaking. lol ( around 110~130% speed up. not much ). But it breaks my voice cuz of voice isolation and some effects. So I had to put background music and set around 30% of voice isolation... and remove all effects such as level, composer.. equalization etc. only voice 20~30%. Any better solution for speeding up with sounds effect?
Plug-in Wave Clarity Vх/Vх PRO, more than better, now - work in FCP! I think project “Apple FCP” is dad. Where function Ai transcrabation, editing mode “text editing (look at soft Descript), detect click or crackle noise or Wind or De-esser or Audio LUFS meter? Where functional screen recording (+supported screen recording Retina display in 10bit video codec), and where remote editing? Where auto detect scenes? Why not after deliver masterfile FCP not function send mail “render file is finished”?…
Working for a news program and often not able to regulate the situation, voice isolation is a real life saver. The best upgrade ever.

I has saved me and help recordings where there is air con in the back ground, it is great.

Oh, and crank up the volume of your camera mic amd then use voice isolation often give me some "soundbites" i could not have used before.

you can also use the voice isolation feature to remove background music so you don't get a copyright claim on your video...
I know, it works surprisingly well for that!

You have some of the best videos... Descript also does a good job with this sort of thing with their "sound studio" effect. Keep up the good work!

Interesting, I'll have to look at it!
It's better than I thought it would be, but there's no substitute for RX
