Glad I could help you out. Butt joints are pretty tricky to do because you are adding yet another element that you have to control in order to get a full thickness weld and a nice bead on the underside. I was lucky to have a great Metalwork teacher in high school that let me do hundreds of welding samples and he always gave me harder and harder weld samples to complete. Good luck and thanks for the watch!
I can't use magnet and weld rod to maintain the same gap. Because of my assignment requirements and when try to weld the gap become thinner and at one point their is gap in between the plates. So what should I do?
If you can do what I did, you have to angle the 2 pieces so that as you weld the butt weld joint, the pieces will suck together as you weld them. If you have the correct start gap and proper angle, they will be perfectly straight when your done. It's tricky but it is possible. Good luck!
thanks for the tips been having trouble doing butt joints and seeing this gave me a better look on how the end product should look like

Sick!! I don’t have time to do my hobbies now due to online school returning 😞
I'm your tech ed teacher now....class is always in session! LOL. If you need a note for your online teacher, I'll write one for you...lol.
hi what kind of gas filler rod you would recommend.
Just get a general purpose steel filler rod from your local welding supply store. Especially for just removing broken studs.
