    Thanks a ton for this!
    I have a FX loop and I was following the directions at first.
    I was using the guitar in and out for my dirt chain in front of my amp, and the dec in and out for my FX loop.
    Hooked up that way, I had to turn the threshold over too much to kill all the noise, and it was killing my sustain big time as well.
    This video made me think to try hooking it up the same way, only in my FX loop because I also get noise from boosting frequencies with my EQ unit in there.
    I did the same thing using my send into the guitar in, guitar out into my EQ unit going into the rest of my modulation chain, then out of there back to dec in, and dec out into the return.
    It still kills all the noise from my dirt chain in front of the amp without even touching it, and it kills the noise from my EQ unit even being placed before it.
    But the best part is, I don't have to turn the threshold as high to kill the noise now, and it's retaining all the sustain!
    And it's much tidier on the board this way.
    Nothing but W's thanks to this video! 🤘

    I plan on purchasing this in the near future. Not saying you're wrong but I was thinking maybe there's a different way to route your cables? I'm thinking.....
    Guitar -> Decimator -> rest of your pedals -> into the amp -> then effects loop send to decimator in -> decimator out to effects return.
    The reason I bring this up because I thought it was a way to use the pedal before and after the preamp. If you have an effects loop, try this and make another video? I'm super curious to hear the difference.
    Either way. Thanks for posting the vid!

      This is correct. If you have a series effects loop you can set it up this way. The circuit of the guitar in/out jacks is the detector circuit. It detects when a signal is coming from the guitar. It is best to place this as early in the chain as possible. The circuit with the Dec in/out jacks is the suppression circuit. You want this after anything noisy (preamp, EQ, compressors) but before any time-based effects (delays, reverbs, flanger, etc).

      Yep this is how I wired it for a few years and it worded wonderfully. You are right in case you have an FxLoop that's how you would wire it and that's how it is explained in the UserGuide. But there is nothing written for the case you have NOT an FxLoop. But Kyle right here figured it out. I'm ashamed beacause I tried so many diffrent way to wire it directly to the amp but always failed. With no FxLoop you need to wire it like Kyle Coppola explains in his video.

    You should run the output of the last drive pedal (the BB pre-amp in this case) to the Decimator in, and then the Decimator out to the phaser input, then the phaser out to the delay and the delay out to the amp input. This way the Decimator won't cut off any delay repeats as they trail out. It's the drive/gain pedals that raise the noise levels, so those are the ones that should be going to the Decimator, and not the modulation and time-based FX.

  • @kicknadeadcat
    @kicknadeadcat 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    It has two circuits, noise circuit for guitar and amp, high gain effects and another without. Guitar, amp and high gain effects run through one, delays and other clean effects through the other and they all go through the effects loop. There is more then one way to set it up. But that’s the recommended method. The reason is you don’t want harmonics like delay and reverb to cut out, they should continue to ring out and not be cut off by the suppressor. Some guy on TH-cam had a great diagram which is what I used.

    Having just talked to the ISP Tech his comments were to setup like this, connect your GUITAR to the GUITAR-IN. GUITAR-OUT place boost & gain type pedals to the AMP. DEC-IN goes directly to the AMP effect loop SEND. Your DELAY, CHORUS REVERB TYPE are connected in the effects loops RETURN to the DEC-OUT. This way there shouldn't be any volume change from clean to distortion. Tech mentioned, if any problems call them.

    I have a Decimator II G String on my pedalboard that works perfectly, but mine is hooked up a little differently......here is how I do it......My pedalboard has 2 rows of pedals. The bottom row is my distortion/fuzz/overdrive type pedals, and the upper row is my modulation type pedals. I run the row of distortion type pedals in a loop between "Dec out" and "Dec in" and the cable from "Guitar out" goes to the first pedal in the row of modulation pedals.....the last pedal in this row has a cable going to the amp. In this configuration the G String only affects the pedals in the loop. If you want to have all pedals affected by the G String, put all the pedals in the loop between "Dec out" and "Dec in" and run a cable from guitar out to the amp.

    So you would send the “guitar out” to the amp in if your amp has an effects loop. And right now you’re cutting off your delay trails. Try running this like this- Guitar > Decimator guitar in > Decimator guitar out > octave fuzz > bb preamp > phase 90 > amp input > amp fx loop send > Decimator dec in > Decimator dec out > carbon copy delay > amp fx loop return

    man! i've bought this thing new 2 days ago, and you just saved me from sending it back to the shop. i thought mine was malfunctioning and i would have made myself a total jackass for asking for a replacement. my practiseamo doesn't have an effectsloop, so i tried to hook this thing in my signalchain after the drive/dist pedal. had it like this: guitar->boss os2->decimator "guitar in" and then hook the guitar out to my amps input and it didn't work at all. i thought the other cirquit was exclusively for use in effectsloops.

    Hey Kyle, I noticed you have a delay in the loop as well. How is that effected by the decimator always on? I had a look on the ISP FaQs, they recommended delays and reverbs be placed on the out to Amp segment, not within the Decimator loop.

    Hey, great video. Can't seem to find the answer I need so maybe you can help. I have a pedal board and do not use any effect loop stuff on the mesa cab. what order is best to have these all in starting from the guitar? I have a boss tuner pedal, morley wah pedal, boss chorus pedal, isp decimator 2 and boss delay pedal. Also the mesa foot switch for the head which I believe means nothing here as it is not in the chain, rather just going right to the head. So, what order would give me the best un-obstructed sound with that Decimator in there? And what if I add a flanger and or compression, where would they need to be in the chain? Thanks

    • @kylecoppola2770
      @kylecoppola2770  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks man. So I usually do not run through my effects loop either, as I just prefer the way my pedals sounds right in the front. So to your first question, where to put the decimator- I have mine last in the chain, as it cuts out the noise from all of my pedals. The most common way to set up your pedals is starting through your tuner - wah - distortion/overdrive - and modulation effects like chorus/flanger/delay. However, you can run your chain however you like, as it will sound slightly different based on the combination you use. I hope this helps! but for sure put the decimator at the end of the chain.

    Hey there, Kyle!
    I got myself that ISP Dec. almost a year ago, and still can't get it to work properly.
    Either it doesn't kill any noise, or it totally kills everything.
    Since I can't use my amp at the moment, I'm using a Digitech Trio+ Band Creator + Looper with headphones as an "amp", with all my effects pedals going through its "FX In/Out".
    Do you have any idea where in the chain I can put the Decimator?
    The instructions being as bad as they are, they're not helping at all...
    Thank you in adavance!
    By the way, I see you own the same Fender Jaguar Modern Player as I!
    Very good cheap Fender, this one is! ;)

      Decimator or G string like in the video? - The guy in the video is correct Guitar->"GUITAR IN"->"GUITAR OUT"->(maybe Wah->Phase)->overdrive/distortion->"DEC IN"->"DEC OUT"->Amp(then modulation like delays in amp fx loop). I also tried to do ->overdrive/distortion->Amp->FX Send->"DEC IN"->"DEC OUT"->Delays/other stuff... but then some really really shit is going on - even when the decimator is off - the regular noise starts whistling and when the phase is on - the amp goes insane with the phase.

    Connecting the ISP Decimator II G String to the Boss ES-8.
    My set up is:
    Gibson Les Paul Custom
    Marshall JVM410H
    Boss ES-8 Effects Switching System connected using the “Four Cable Method” to the JVM input and FX Loop.
    The sequence is:
    Guitar → ES-8 input → Compressor → Pickup Booster → Overdrive → Distortion → ES-8 Send → Amp Input → ES-8 Volume Loop → Reverb → Chorus → Delay → ES-8 OUT1/L → Amp Return → Amp Send → ES-8 RTN Vol.
    In a first instance, I connected the Decimator II G String between the guitar and the ES-8 input in a simple method of Guitar → ISP Guitar IN → ISP Guitar OUT → ES-8 input without success.
    The second attempt was Guitar → ISP Guitar IN → ES-8 Input → ES-8 Send → DEC IN → DEC OUT → Amp Input without success.
    The third attempt I connected the Guitar to the ES-8 Input → ES-8 Send → ISP Guitar IN → ISP guitar OUT → ES-8 RTN → ES-8 Volume Loop → ES-8 OUT1/L → Amp Return → Amp Send → ISP DEC IN → ISP DEC OUT → ES-8 RTN Vol without success.
    My ISP came with a battery inside which I removed and connected the device to one of my T-Rex along with other pedals. The light goes red when switched ON but there is no noise change at all between ISP ON and OFF.
    I could not find any information related to connecting the Decimator and the Boss ES-8.
    Are you able to see what could possibly be wrong?

    • @XlouietheflyX
      @XlouietheflyX 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The JVM amps have a parallel loop, which is very big part of the problem. It basically mixes in the effects signal from the loop but also sends through some dry signal. The dry signal will therefore not go through the noise suppressor circuit. I am not sure if you can set the loop to 100% wet but if you can then try that. Otherwise the only way it would work in the loop would be to convert your JVM's loop to a series loop. Apparently this is quite common. I'm not sure how the ES-8 works but basically you want as clean as possible a signal into the GUITAR IN jack. Then you go through all of your dirty effects (including those in your loop), then into the DEC IN input, then connect DEC OUT to any time-based effects (e.g. delay) and then into the loop return. This only works if you convert the amp's loop to series. If you have it in parallel you can still use the pedal but you need to have everything in front of the amp and then DEC OUT into the amp input. You can still put the delay etc into your amp's loop.

  • @MosheAlvarez
    @MosheAlvarez 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Any particular reason you're not running the Dec IN and Dec Out in your amp's effects loop to get rid of all that noise?

    Can you tell me what the difference is between the Decimator G String and the Decimator G String II? I know that I need to get the G String because I want to be able to go from my clean channel to dirty channel without messing with the knobs on the Decimator pedal. And the G String will sense the clean tone or something like that and adjust itself accordingly. But should I get the first generation G String or the second generation G String II?

    • @KeN-tH
      @KeN-tH 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      chad allen I think the second generation will be best in your case since ISP addresed the slight issues the first generation Decimator had. Decimator II Gstring also has a more reactive gate response.

      Did you ever figure it out. I have a 6505 and I just grabbed one myself??

  • @XlouietheflyX
    @XlouietheflyX 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yeah will this will work (sort of) if you have a parallel effects loop or no effects loop. This is how you set it up if you have a series effects loop (e.g., a Peavey 5150/6505): guitar -> (tuner) -> guitar in jack on g-string -> guitar out jack on g-string -> (boosts / overdrives / compressors) -> amp input -> effects loop send -> (EQ pedal) -> dec in jack on g-string -> dec out jack on g-string -> (flanger, chorus, delay, reverb) -> effects loop return.
    I have been using this setup on my Peavey for years with no problems. This is the optimum setup. Apparently people with parallel loops (the type with a level control, e.g., some Marshalls) have a lot of issues with using it in the loop. if you have no loop or your loop is junk wire it up ahead of the amp as in this video, although I wouldn't include time-based effects in its loop

    • @kylecoppola2770
      @kylecoppola2770  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah my Mesa Boogie didnt like it through the Loop. I currently have a volume pedal running trough the loop so I can crank up the master volume to get things "breathing" but use the volume to keep the overall sound down without losing the tone.

      Worked flawless on my loop. But the wiring is a mess and the user guide a joke. They explain more on how to connenct two decimator then how to connect it on one amp. Who is running two G-string Decimator when you know that the price can reach over 200$ for one pedal.

    For anyone wondering I’ve been doing a FUCK ton of research on this pedal, mainly because my impulsive ass bought the son of a bitch brand new with no recollection of my bills on life. Sue me. Anyways, this pedal is supposed to be used for your FX LOOP the reason is, is because once you’re running through the FX loop you’re now cancelling out all noise through pre amp and through your high gain. This set up is only cancelling his high gain frequencies but if he would set it up through the FX loop there would be no noise what so ever. If you don’t have and FX loop or won’t use the FX loop then just buy the regulars Decimator! Hope this helps

    So you could do guitar in > guitar out > gain effects > dec in > dec out > modulation effects > amp. Sounds weird but its just like the fx send is guitar out, the send return is dec in, and the output is dec out. Lol

    i really think that this much noise is just not normal at all. first of all i really would set up the decimator within the amp fx loop. your alternate setting is legit and a possible option stated by the company itself. but fx loop would be my first choice. and then you shoudl really check your power supply, make a test without a daisy chain and isolated connections. i just can't believe that there isn't something wrong and that noise is just legit.
