We see a lot of films and documentaries about World War II, about the British, Americans, etc. But, at least from what I’ve seen, one thing that we don’t hear much about is the HUGE role that the Indian Army played in the war.
They were crucial in the North and East African theatres against the Germans and Italians, in the South-East Asian theatre against the Japanese, and during the invasion of Italy.
By the end of the war, the Indian army represented the largest voluntary force, starting off at around 200,000 men and rising to 2.5 MILLION by the end of the war. Absolute UNIT. Multiple units, actually. Heck yeah, India.

@@dreamsider britain faced an Indian freedom fighter called Netaji and INA during independence. The revolt of Netaji inspired a Naval revolt. Then Indian citizens protested against the hanging of one INA PoW and siluccessfully saved him. British then learnt about a revolt by Indian army. This time the revolt would be much more destructive thsn the one on 1957 because Indian army was much more experienced and had a common goal irrespective of race and religion which they did not have before. Furthermore, they would have full support of the citizens just like they had before and it means most Indians would turn against Britain. So they got afraid and pulled out. Britain still had a lot of things to take away from India. It is a myth that they did not need anything more lol. Just collecting taxes would be a good source of revenue. They left because they were afraid of getting kicked out. They unknowingly made Indian army much more powerful and paid the price for it.
And just because someone has legal control doesn't mean he has actual control.

The saddest part is that the Imphal War of 1944 wasn't only Fought by the Japanese Empire. The Indian National Army by Subhash Chandra Bose also fought against the British for an Independent India. So Technically, India was defeated by India at that War.
