    Did a dive this weekend and I overheated before even hitting the water. I cooled down and tried to dive- I quickly realized I was exhausted and I was only in the water for about 10 minutes. I aborted- initially I was a little upset. But then I thought of you guys and I was proud of myself for knowing my limit! Thanks for all the awesome videos, and it’s true- the ocean will always win!

      Yeah, the main problem of scuba diving is than you get hot before jumping in the water. Jump in the water and take the time to cool down your body with the water. Just inflate your BCD at the surface and take the time to calm down and rest before diving. There is no rush. You will maybe lose 10 minutes but you will dive longer and safer.

      Good job. ALWAYS stay safe. You can learn and go for another dive any time. If you take risks you have a high risk of drowning. No going for another dive then.

    Growing up in Florida , we learned to swim as babies we taught each other to free dive learning to hold our breathe for 2-3 minutes we were so proud of our accomplishments that we felt brave , but sadly we were given freedom to explore also as children unsupervised , me and my sister had a scary experience off singer island - there is a small cave under the rocks - by the inlet - we needed help , age 10-7 we were saved by a diver as we hung to a bowie so far out that we were terrified to swim back. No idea how we got there. All we knew was we went in and out of a little cave - wish I knew that man today saved our lives 🙏 parents - even if your children have knowledge and experience- teach them to be humble and always respect Mother Nature - even if those children are grown adults - we can all get over confident at times - thank you dive talk for always teaching and using your knowledge with kindness and respect- love you men 🌞may the Sun always show you the way 🌞

      @@DIVETALK You are absolutely correct in that some people would not take to that type of training. That's one of the reasons you can make a choice based on an instructors reputation which is the first thing you should check out carefully and decide what type of training you want to receive. As long as you get a qualified person and they follow by the book you should be able to be one s safe cave diver to the level you are trained. Other people, in fact many people do in fact prefer to get the most to borrow your phase "Savage" teacher you can get and I think the diver produced by this this type of training will be A very confident diver...that being said as the fellows here rightly pointed out to you, that kind of training is not for everyone, but rather the few. The two styles will produce a much different diver. That does not mean that one is absolutely better than the other. This had been endlessly debated over the years. I come from the hard school so that was how I was taught and I even went further with my candidates and they all loved it...why? Because they knew what they were in for when they came to me . I made it very clear. These fellows are doing a service to the community in general,but as he mentioned to you they have expressed to me that they do not like my approach. That's cool was my reply, no one size fits all. Dive on Savage man. Safety first..T.

      Yeah, I think some people who have been open water diving for a while but maybe haven’t trained past that get pretty complacent about safety - “i’ve been diving for over a decade and never had a problem” - so I think if you have someone who is training as a tech or cave diver, sometimes they need a little bit of a harsh reality check about how dangerous that can be compared to a coral reef with 50 feet of visibility.

      Looking at his mouth movement and hearing the audio, my suspicion is that the microphone he used when he was making the video either didn’t pick up his voice clearly enough or there was a lot of background noise or something else was wrong with the audio, so he then went into a sound booth to re-record the audio louder/clearer/more enunciated. That’s why his lip movements match the words being spoken, but look pretty weird.

    Hey guys, I just wanted to let you know I just finished my Full Cave training this week! Wanted to do this for years and I'm still a bit blown away that I finally achieved it.
    I trained with Kim Davidsson at Protec Tulum who did a great job. It was challenging but built up at just the right speed. I never expected I'd feel remotely comfortable doing an out-of-viz, in-line gas sharing exercise in sidemount restrictions. Like you said, the straightforward way we talk about risks and analyze historical accidents is chilling but necessary.
    The caves here in Mexico have been more beautiful and diverse than I expected and I'm happy that I get to spend another week here diving them with a friend.
    Thanks for sharing your stories and experience with us.

Is it also based on number of years? Should we get cavern and cave certified simultaneously (I’ve seen instructors offering this) or get cavern certified first? Should we have experienced real life underwater emergencies before trying? What gear do I need? What gear can I use for cave diving that I used for scuba diving?

    • @alanstevens949

      My experience. Short answer, I was certified in a week. I went from open water straight to cave certified. IANTD requires an open water diver to have a minimum of 100 dives which I had. Having some night dives helps. I think 50 dives if you have advanced. That week was intense. Loved it though. At the end I was only cave intro certified. The problem was my equipment was inadequate. (side mount) I had to use doubles. I was soooo out of trim for the whole course. Virtually out of control. Every day of the course was in the cave. I got my own gear, side mount, and practiced what I learned in the ocean. Went back for 1 day and aced it.

    I love the way he is teaching this subject. He starts right at the beginning with all of the reasons you need to do the whole training and really pay attention to it and absorb it into yourself. This isn't just a class you take and then forget. You are here to learn the techniques to keep yourself alive so you can enjoy the beauty and wonder of cavern diving. I'm terrified of deep water (despite being a decent swimmer), so the idea of doing any diving frightens me immensely. Thanks to your videos, though, I feel much more comfortable about potentially trying a beginner's class if the opportunity should ever arise. You guys really make the diving community seem welcoming and dedicated to safety and you communicate pretty clearly that if you follow all of the procedures as you should every time, your risk of death or injury plummets (though it's never zero, of course).

    I'm so grateful to have found your channel (and I've never subscribed faster!)
    Watching your videos (even the scary ones where people died) has taught me so much about cave diving safely and correctly; doing the right thing so as to enjoy the underwater Atlantis that is cave diving.
    This is coming from a non-swimmer who lives on a twin island in the Caribbean. Feared the water my whole life since I almost drowned 3 times (twice as a child and once as an adult).
    Worse yet, caves were just dark and scary places where only the truly brave (or insane, depending on your perspective) would venture to go. Gus' description of the beauty of caves was really nice to hear and made it less scary.
    While I probably wont be getting cave certified anytime soon, I dont fear the water anymore, I will be learning to swim so I can have more control on be one with nature. Then I can go snorkeling with the fishes!
    Thanks for making me love the open water again, Gus and Woody! Blessings to you guys :-)

    This makes my stomach hurt, confronting the possibilities of executing a cave dive by the untrained. When I was able to work, I worked in a field where everything had to be planned out ahead of time. All potential outcomes accounted for as best as possible. When confronting unknowns, all decisions regarding when and how to back out of changes, were decided well before beginning the procedure. Procedures were well understood by all involved. In the end, it always looked like a well choreographed dance, everyone knowing what to expect at all times. Anything less could result in a serious, expensive mess. I think that's why I'm drawn to cave diving. Successful cave diving demands nothing short of your very best. No dependence on lady luck. She's a finicky lady at the best of times! Great video guys!

    Usually I bring a pickaxe, and a few doors to create an instant air pocket. If I get lost, I simply dig up. Cave diving is an excellent way to farm diamonds and iron ore without encountering skeletons, creepers, and spiders. Although, zombies do spawn in dark waters. Cave diving in minecraft can be fun and safe if you prepare properly.
    Here is a list of survival items:

    In relation to the beautiful, untouched nature down there, I think it's great that these caves are usually only visited by people who know what they are doing (in terms of training, professional equipment, etc.). Otherwise, perhaps something like on Mount Everest would happen, where meanwhile every Tom, Dick and Harry can try to reach the summit, forming endless human queues (sometimes resulting in "traffic jams"), destroying nature and leaving garbage (and often their lives, unfortunately). That was only an example, but I'm sure you guys know what I mean...

    • @horsepanther
      @horsepanther 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      But, history apparently has shown that people sometimes are tempted into going into a cave maybe just a little ways because it seems doable, so acknowledging human nature is not a bad thing. Especially if you aren't so confident that you for sure would not be tempted.

    Teaching positively is so helpful. I was utterly terrified doing driving lessons but my teacher set me so at ease. He’d say “That was a good decision” or “You did a really good turn!” before any adjustments were made and it worked. Passed first time. So much easier to learn from someone saying this is what you did right and this is how you do even better ❤️

    In regards to the two divers(siblings?) that were found "embracing" one another.. Could it be possible that one ran out of air first, and were buddy breathing off the others remaining air? I mean, there could be a possibility they Were found in that position.. Just saying. BTW, I've never been diving, Would love to, and can't stop watching you guys.

    • @DIVETALK
      @DIVETALK  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think there is no way that two divers embraced as they drown…no chance…but even a smaller chance that two siblings were underwater and one of the siblings watched as the other drowned when he/she ran out of air first WHILE THEY EMBRACED. You pitch that to a Hollywood producer and they’ll kick you out of the room for being ridiculous and unrealistic. 😂
