Why this guy doesn't have a show is beyond me. Great content, great commentary
I appreciate that, more than you know.
You've just earned a new subscriber! Just what I needed to hear. Most of the pros and cons in a short and sweet video. Looking forward to the next one!
Thank you! That means more than you know. I’m glad you found use from this video.
When we buy donor vehicles for engines we usually post them up on FB market place for a week or 2 and let people come pick parts off them for a little more extra cash… last time we bought a donor vehicle and sold off everything we didn’t need the engine was free
Dead on accurate! It’s awesome isn’t it?! Where others are paying thousands for their engine, you can part out a vehicle and have your engine for free.
I got lucky with my LS. People would leave their cars on my grandmas property and someone left a c5 corvette there. We called the owner to take it but they refused to take it off the property, my grandma legally ended up taking possession of it and sold it to me for $1
Holy crap! That’s nucking futs!! Man you really did get lucky. I need some of your luck in my life! Haha
I’ll put a 5.3 in your jeep for the Vette
Got it done!
Haha yessir! And now the real fun begins! Time go get this LS in!
Another great video. Good luck with the build, I hope things go smoothly.
Remember as well when you choose a motor to go with a same gen motor as the model year of your rig or as close to it to avoid emissions issues. The Heep’s new motor swapped in has to be from the same gen or newer than the vehicle model year it’s going in. i.e. a 03 TJ will have to have a 03 or newer LS (or if 02 motor is same gen that’s fine too I believe) and it’s important to properly set up your emissions so you can keep it registered within the US Govt. Corporation, you don’t need road pirates pulling you over. For some, emissions is a big consideration when swapping and could be an issue for all counties given how terranical things are becoming.
This is a VERY good point and a major reason why Jeeps past 2014 usually go with HEMI, due to matching emissions needs. This is something that might be a great topic for a tech talk on its own.
Best info about picking out an engine I've seen, glad you showed up on my feed, liked and subbed, looking forward to ls swapping our grand with you as getting past the dread is usually the roughest part, the more I watch folks pull it off the less scary it seems
Thank you for that! You definitely can knock this project out no problem! I’ll be sure to post more very soon
2016 Gen 5 5.3 355 Hp all aluminum block. 2012 Escalade 6l80e now running in my 2007 JK. 4.11 gears. Plenty of Hp and torque. Love It.
THAT is a nice set! That transmission is so great!! I can imagine it changed your driving experience so much
@@mudtiremedia What’s interesting is at 73 years old and my friend at 70 tackled this ourselves. Took us almost a month. Fortunately Larry has a lift at home. We removed the body from the frame. Did this as areas where most of the major modifications were now in the open.
Just picked up a LS for my TJ
Heck ya! Stick around because I have a giveaway coming up in the near future that could be useful for that
@@mudtiremedia have you decided on your headers in motor mount yet?
I’m using Dave’s customs motor mounts and trans mount. I was originally going to drop the engine in and fabricate my own mounts, but they are fairly cheap and saves a lot of time. As far as a header, I haven’t made that choice yet. But I have a stack of parts piling up in the back of the garage right now. Trying to have every piece ready to go so I can drop it in quickly when the time comes.
Are you putting any power adders in your LS before you put it in?
@@mudtiremedia I do have a text to speech Cam in there, doing my head work for me I got a gen 3 5.3 it only has 63k on it for it off a buddy of mine the only reason he pulled it was to go to a 6.2 I’m in the same boat as u right now just trying to get all my parts my holly terminator should be here this week
Great video.....makes me want to do the swap!....but first....
Thanks! It’s going to be a lot of fun! Go ahead and add it to your must do list And we will just bring yours over and do it all at once!
Damn hes right there’s a shit load of them for $1000 annnnnd a lot of them are completely opposite of junkyard condition let me go head and hit that subscribe button
Haha this may just be my favorite comment I’ve gotten. Haha thank you for the sub!
Great video!!!
Thank You! That means a lot!
Awesome video. I will def be doing this way in the near future. I have an anemic 2.5L & ready to swap that thing!!!
Hey that’s ok! I used to have the 2.5 in my YJ too and it was HORRIBLY slow. But I still loved that old Jeep. As long as she stayed in 4low, she kept moving on the trail. Haha.
@@mudtiremedia I agree, it’s good on trails. I do drive it on pretty days around town. Occasionally to work. That’s when & where I need a few more horses. I ain’t gobs lie though, I’d love a little more torque on the trail.
Dang great info. Time to prep for a TDI swap!
Haha not gonna lie, I spent a lot of time trying to decide if I wanted V8 or TDI diesel.
....and Im on marketplace right now!....
Haha it’s a sickness! I can’t help but check marketplace every morning and evening.
Great video
Thank you! That is appreciated more than you know.
05-07 chevy and gmc 4x4 trucks with the eighth vin digit is a B. it'll have the L33 engine. 5.3 liter aluminum block high output vortec engine. almost all of them came with a 4l60e transmission, which is a fantastic transmission to wheel with. you can pick them up pretty cheap, these days. pull the drive train and then donate the shell to a local charity for a nice tax write-off. it's actually lighter than the amc 4.0, so you don't even have to swap out your brakes.
This is great info for people to keep in mind!
Big tip guys. I used Novak for my 51 Willy’s swap
I appreciate you mentioning this. I was determined on using advance adapters for adapting my th400 to my t case, after seeing your comment, I remembered to check Novak options and they have an even better to adapt the t case to the 32 spline output of the TH400. So you helped ME with this.
Totally brilliant!
Thank you! I hope it helps!
I'm planning a L8T swap into a 1974 Jeep J10.
I’m definitely subscribing
Well thank you! It is appreciated more than you know!
Ive got an 83 full size jeep cherokee 4 door. Basically the same size as an old wagoneer. Im torn between the 5.3 and 6.0 since its such a heavy vehicle. Granted anything will be better than the 110 hp 258 inline 6 it came with but i still wonder if i should opt for the 6.0
If the 6.0 is available in your budget (honestly should cost you about an extra 1000 usually for a Denali with a 6.0) then grab the 6.0 and you won’t regret it. It does come with extra torque right from the beginning. But if budget is on your mind, the 5.3 truly makes great torque and hp that will be a massive upgrade from where you are now. I would love to see this build!
Good insight. Have me thinking I overpaid for my 6.0 now 😂
Hey it’s all good, as long as you end up building your dream! 😃
Is there a LS swap for a 3.7 Jeep Liberty 2006
Great question. As a matter of fact, yes. Advance adapters makes an adapter kit to mount the common longitudinal LS engine into your liberty. The hardest point in the install will be the tight engine bay constraints. So you’ll likely have to use the LS car manifold and shallow oil pan to help with clearance.
@@mudtiremedia do you know anyone that can do this when Am ready
@@kennyclark3821I’m doing an LS swap in an 02 Liberty right now. Just about to get back on it from taking a break. Have already test fitted a 6.0 with a 4l60e and a np149 awd t-case. I used patriot tight tuck ls swap headers for a phenomenal fitment. There is way more room in the engine bay than there was with the original v6. I made my own engine and trans mounts. I test for a 6.0, but I also have a 5.3 and will most likely use it. I since have acquired a complete aluminum 5.3/6l80e setup and considered changing to this setup but requires me to change the input on the t-case to fit the 32 spline output of the 6l80. I already built my 4l60e for the other setup so going to continue on, but may do it in the future.
Look for a Hybrid SUV or Truck. They have an all Aluminum 6.0L that is almost an LS2 eith a smaller Cam. 10.7 Compression instead of 10.9 but some .040 MLS Head Gaskets a d a good Cam and youre set without paying the LS2 Tax!!😂
That’s a great option! Thanks for sharing I know the later model cylinder deactivation becomes problematic, but with adding a DOD delete to it, it would be a great setup
@mudtiremedia yeah most people want to Cam the LS while it's out anyways so might as well do a DOD Delete with whatever Cam you want (I went with Holdeners Low Buck Truck Cam for the LZ1 Motor going in my Jeep.
Great video!!
Thank you for the kind words!
