  • This Jeep is full beast mode! Home built 1 ton axles, home built 500 horsepower 6.0 Chevy LS swap and a never ending list of extras! Andy has been building this Jeep for years and I think you would agree that the juice was worth the squeeze. After spending the last few trips with Kapps (Andy) I felt that it was time to finish our walk around video and share these details with you guys. I get questions about this YJ all the time so I could be happier to sit down with one of my oldest friends and get specific on this off-road masterpiece.

    Perhaps get more closeups of how the builder packaged suspension, engine, trans/ transfer cases... etc, in your walk around vids so those who are looking for ideas can see how the builder accomplished their goals. Awesome footage to show the capabilities of the rig and the in depth discussion of all mods was spot on!

    • @Fix_It_Again_Tony

      I second this. Also any feedback from the builder about the challenges overcome. The detail about how the frame was constructed on this jeep to provide clearance for the axle in the front, but drop down low enough in the middle to protect the drive train was interesting.
      Having some shots on jack stands with the tires off would be cool as well.

    • @amkaperick
      @amkaperick 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I will try to get some photos on my IG of the suspension and clearances as a quick run down some of the biggest challenges were the exhaust routing, coming up with a radiator fan comb that is small enough but adequate. And for sure font axle packaging between upper link mounts hydro bumps steering lines coilover mounts and still have full turning radius.

I'm running 3 link in the front, 4 in the rear and 14" fix coil overs, narrowed super 60 up front and 10.5 sterling I the rear. I couldn't get my hands on a 6.0 so I got a 5.3 with the 4L60E. • @z1kforfun
      @z1kforfun 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@amkaperick you could keep your transfer case and run a crawl box in front of it but that'll add around 8" to your drivetrain and your low range options would be 2.72 to 1 and 7.4 to 1 which I thought was too low with a V8 and an auto. The other option is one of the crawl boxes to a 205. That'll give you the 2.72 and then a 5.33 to 1 but then your speed sensor will have to be on the transfer case output shaft and I'm not sure how it would shift in low range.

    That was such a great type of vid to add to your arsenal, nate! I really like the idea of folks talking about their builds, their goals, and how they got to where they are now, and what they'd do differently. This kind of first-hand information is invaluable to people like me who are only a fraction of the way into their builds. My biggest takeaway is that I pretty much need to stop where I'm at with my JKU and get a buggy for the more challenging stuff, so I don't ruin my JK, which is by no means a trailer queen or grocery getter. It gets used hard, but Im not down for the whole body damage/body shop routine. I need to drop the swiss army knife idea and just build another crawler/offroader... to add to the, already bursting quiver of sand rails, quads, side by sides and a track car. Its a sickness, yes, and I'm chest deep!

    also for gear reduction he could look at a ford 205 with a nwf black box that would give a 1.96 low range with an optional 2.72 low range for a total of 5.33 low range with both. that combo would also be an inch or so shorter than the 241 that is currently in there.

    Hi Nate, regarding a lower box that goes in front of the transfer. a company called Northwest fabworks. may have just what you are looking for. ive been looking for the same for my toyota. super strong stuff. i think its called an eco crawler.

    Northwestfab makes the eco box and the black box that uses the same np241 6 pinion planetary with the same 2.72:1 gear reduction.

    Ain't no such thing as the perfect all around off-road vehicle but there are a few ideas that's time has come, for individual applications.

    I believe off road design as a crawl box

    How did you locate the extra lights into the turn signal area. And add the mini turn signal lights. Mainly wondering what parts were used. Great video guys. Thanks.

    Atlas 4 speed all the way. My favorite part on my Jeep. Should hold up fine to the power.
    Great video like usual but how about some up close footage of the build. I like looking at other folks builds. Helps give me ideas.

    Nate super sick video man......kapp one of the most extensively engineered jeeps ive seen by a regular dude.... not by a dentist with $156,000 bought rig who has never changed his own oil....if you could help me with one question nate whats the difference between the 2 types of 3 links kapp has on his jeep?.

    It can be bolted to the front of the t case, rear of the t case, or the tailshaft of the transmission... they are only about 8" long and they can handle 1200hp... my boy back home in jersey (im in nc) has an 800 hp carburetor fed mustang with 496 gears in the rear ...with gear vendors unit he rides at 1800 rpms on the turnpike in 5th gear at 150 mph...(occasionally)..... they could be built for either and underdrive unit or an overdrive unit it takes a 6-speed and turns it into a 12 great unit very tough but I believe it's slightly pricey hope this helped man rock on with the videos

    Late comment but gear vendors makes some really interesting over under drive setups that handle huge hp

      That was going to be my recommendation. A magnum doubler in front of an NP205 is roughly the same size as a NP241 and will without a doubt hold up to the power. 1:1, 1.96:1, 2.72:1 and 5.33:1 I know many guys running blowers and nitrous through LS’s on AG tires with that setup.

    Off-road Design's Magnum 205. 2:1, 2.7:1 and 5.3:1. They run them in ultra4 cars. Bullet proof. Takes maybe an inch more length than the 241.

    To get a lower gear from the tranny, how about gear vendors splitter. It turns a four speed tranny into an eight speed.

    Magnum 205 crawl box from Off-road Designs combines a billet crawl box that attaches to an NP205. Gives you the ability to do front digs as well. Shouldn't be too much longer than the Np241.

    Were you using a camera slider during the talking part of the video? The camera is moving just slightly, and it makes the shot more interesting.

    Get a North west Fab Titan box and a 205. That’ll hold the power no problem.
