Toyota Hilux stereo head unit how to install / upgrade

- Bought a cheap head unit stereo upgrade for my Hilux, let's see how it installs and how good it is
This was a $180.00 AUD kit and it shipped fast and installed very well, it's not perfect or super high quality but for the price I am pleased with it.
There are 2 USB cables (one power and one power and communication) these will need to be routed somewhere you can access, same with the gps receiver.
Here's how to fit it
Note I did not fit a reverse camera at this time (but will soon) I also did not fit the amp plug or use the fitting brackets as they were not required for my intended use.

hey thats a nice stereo im looking forward to buy but in the site it says that it has usb slots but i cant really see them in any picture or video i watch can u pls help me by telling me if its visible in ur video or something?
Yeah it doesn't have them in the front as you can see, there are 2 in the back that are cables that I routed out through the bottom. One is power only and one is communication and power.
Apparently you can add car logos on there

Hi Craig, I've never used an apple phone with it but the description on the one I bought says "Wireless Carplay: You can choose wired connection or wireless connection to carplay, connect to Apple mobile phone, access mobile phone address book, mail, notification, map navigation, music, video and other information, and realize voice control."

Hey mate I’ve ordered this exact unit from your link you provided. Just wondering do you know of a reverse camera that is compatible with it?
Hey mate, the yellow input seems to be a pretty standard fitment for a few vehicle reverse cameras, I have recently ordered one and intend to do a how to video on the install when it arrives.
Alternatively check out some of the packages that come with the head unit and a camera, could help see what cameras are being shipped with that haled unit.

@@simmosworkshop hey mate just wondering I got mine installed and the default password in the manual for car settings isn’t working. Was yours the same as the manual or different? I’ve messaged the seller anyway hopefully get a reply soon
Oh sorry mate mine did not ask for a password at all. Hope the seller helped you out
@@simmosworkshop yeah got it sorted. Default password was “000000” I’m now having issues getting the USB to work but other than that everything is working spot on. For the money it’s a bargain what you get. For anyone else that wants to know the developer options password is the date in this format e.g. 2024.15.02
Hey there, how’s the head unit held up, any updates?
Pretty good, still doing everything it should even after some very hot summer days. If I had any complaints, it would only be not being able to get DAB digital radio in my region, but that would be all, it still functions like new.
This is pretty cheap I agree compared with VHEDIA brands etc. Is it leggy to connect on start up or slow w Google maps while music is playing or anything?
I think as usual, you do get what you pay for, for me I use it for basic BT music and the occasional google maps use, and it's just fine for that. But I don't think it would compare fairly with the high end touch screens out there.
You can use a wired connection, BT or hot spot wifi to your phone, the maps do seem to lag sometimes especially on the hotspot.
Start up is just fine, immediate in fact, if you haven't isolated the vehicle battery.
If you are looking to multi task and demand a lot of the unit it may not meet your expectations, but once again for the price it does fine by me

@@simmosworkshop thanks man. I just need ot to do google maps a d play music simultaneously. Does it do that? Did it connect up to reversing camera ok too?
Yeah mine plays music through Bluetooth as I use maps via the WiFi hotspot simultaneously, reverse camera was all good a straightforward set up

Hi,You should not have bought the radio frame. The basic radio frame is suitable for a 9-inch radio.
It seems alot of these head units from eBay all (or at least most of them) come with the frame for the same price either way. I didn't even try to fit it to the OEM besel, could be a good way to go.
