Suburbia Overture: Greetings from Mary Bell Township! / (Vampire) Culture / Love Me, Normally - Will Wood
since this blown up for some reason;
1. thanks!!
2. i fucking hate dsmp fans, go away
3. the character in the video belongs to me! his name is Tommy Meshach and he’s the Harbinger of God. since God in his universe went missing, he has to fill in His role despite being a little unstable and more focused on shaping the world to be that “cookie-cutter-american-dream” town as a way of ensuring every human’s place into Heaven. he’s the face of a company called Angel Co. that runs Heaven as a simulation. he’s a robot angel! if you’re curious abt his deal, feel free to ask!

Home is where the heart is, you ain't homeless but you're heartless.
That's powerful.
I read this as that part came on on the song lol

The transition to Suburbia to Vampire Culture is fucking _fantastic_
Wait are they different song but spliced together?
@@closeted-skeleton yeah.
@@closeted-skeleton kinda? I think it's supposed to be a little unclear, the way I interpereted it is it's 3 songs, (Greetings From Mary Bell Township, Vampire Culture, and Love Me, Normally) that all combined create the song suburbia overture

I was playing this in the car and my sibling described vampire culture as "heavy metal for neurodivergent people" which honestly describes it perfectly

Alright. Going to flex my knowledge for a little bit. When the song shifts for the first time and the singer mentions kuru, note that kuru is a prion disease. Prion diseases in humans aren't transmissible by air or regular surface contact, and are instead mainly transmitted by consuming stuff such as meat and flesh. Prion diseases also tend to accumulate in the brain, which is the highest risk area for transmission.
So, if we take the kuru line literally, it's implied that the singer ate his sister, and the part(s) he ate most likely included the brain.
Food for thought! (pun entirely intended.)
correct!!! i’ve done a buncha research and i’ve seen articles written about the consumption of the human body and Many of them include how eating the brain is useless and cannot be cooked. same thing with blood
Sweetbread, mentioned in the same verse, is a cullinary term for the thyroid, but its also used for brains of cattle or sheep that one cooks!
kuru can only be transmitted via cannibalism of the brain so yeah lol. one of its symptoms is uncontrollable laughter so yes it is very much implied
Will wood (the singer) also wrote about how there was brains on the wall, which goes with the whole theme of Kuru
I remember when I learned what kuru was my reaction was just “oh the thing from that Will Wood song”
oh you KNOW i clicked this just to see if the art would shift along with the transition to vampire culture and I was NOT disappointed
This song hits different when you're carving styrofoam with a boxcutter for an art piece and you can pretend to be a cannibalistic suburban housewife dissecting a body
That's freaky, i like dat
very good translation of the song tbh

Because it makes no sense and is out of context. And is ridiculous
I always thought it was “here comes radiation”
@@candicraveingcloude2822 it actually does make sense. the "stereotypical family" of a son, a daughter and two loving parents is referred to in academia as the nuclear family. so "he comes radiation" is basically a jab at the whole nuclear family dynamic and archetype. hope that helps :D

MY EXACT THOUGHT
my personal favorite part of this song is the “surburbiAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA”, and because this song is pretty long, i can loop it and not get tired of it
Mini story I used the lyrics context clues to make:
It's basically just a "normal" suburban town full of white, straight, christian, nuclear families. Blonde, blue eyed children and perfect faced parents. None of them ever have any drama, trauma or struggles in lifr, nobody has ever had a divorce, and some families host barbeques every weekend.
Secretly though, they're all cannibals. This is because of a culture theyve built after being sectioned off from the real society for so long. A lot of adultery and eating brains happens in this culture. The brains they choose to devour come from outsiders, and if the outsiders have children they use the organs from them to make sweetbread.
that's pretty cool
I've just taken it as a critique of modern life in america
Not that far of the Actual Hellscape that was 1950's American Suburbia to be fair.
that turned dark real fuckin quick
That was enjoyable to read

THE LAST FUCKING PART. THE ONE RIGHT AFTER VAMPIRE CULTURE. ITS SO FUCKING SLEPT ON!!!!
LOVE ME NORMALLY IS SLEPT ON THANK YOU
I thought the “story” was about a utopia town slowly delving into chaos. At first it’s hidden, before fires, explosions, death on the news. And it’s all around you. And the end is someone dying wondering why things could’ve stayed like before.
when i watched “what did i do” and Will Wood mentioned that “the most things that people don’t talk about when it comes to 80’s nostalgia is the 50’s nostalgia” this song made much more sense. The references to the Cold War and American suburbanization are much clearer.

my goodness me this song is so good. greetings from mary bell township is super catchy, vampire culture is chaotic as all get out and I love it. don't really have much to say about love me, normally. one of my favorite ww songs.

Gee, Tommy. How come you get TWO lyric videos.
IVE LISTENED TO THIS SONG ABOUT A MILLION TIMES YET I NEVER REALIZED THAT HE SAID "HE CUMS RADIATION"
A LITERAL NUCLEAR FAMILY
2:44 NMOOOOOOO I THOUGHT IT WAS "HERE COMES RADIATION" AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
The way I interpret this is (warning:I am projecting):
First part (Greetings from Mary Bell township!) is "conformity".Living in normal place with a bunch of cultural norms. You can conform and stay relatively calm but inside you know that you are slowly getting dreaded by this whole culture and normality, you don't really belong there, this place is enslaving you and hurting you rather than making you feel like home.
The second part (Vampire culture) is basically being fed up and "exploding". You have gotten so tired of all of this, so tired of having to follow things you don't want, limiting yourself and being judged just because "that's just how it is/ always has been" "it's part of our culture". You basically go nuts and probably fuck up a lot of things during that "explosion".
Third part (love me normally)is just sadness. Probably either because of the social stigma and alienation that comes with being non-conforming or because of mistakes you did during that "explosion" ("going against the grain and catching splinters). Deep inside you you kind of wish you were just like all the other "normal" people so you could live a normal life in this normal place and not have to go through all of this.
the snap crackle pop of the geiger
In the second part he sounds like if sandpaper could talk lmao

Part of the Love Me, Normally section sounds like the bridge in the Main Character
It really says something that this song gave me an anxiety attack when I first listened to it, but now it relaxes me.
hey i have a question about tommy!!!! in this picture he looks much different from how you draw him usually on your account! he looks a lot like, kiddy here? if that makes sense? because on instagram he has like super high creepy cheekbones and like- scary teeth and stuff and a massive torso and he just looks so eerie and i love it!!!! this design is also amazing!! i just wanna know if they’re both the same character like in the same like ‘stage’? is it the same guy but like at different times in his life?
Tommy shows up on TV all the time, most of the time as you normally see him (though you can’t see his robotic neck, so you can’t sell that he’s messed up). but sometimes his appearance in logos, or title cards before a broadcast, even advertisements resemble a more chibi look! it’s like his brand to have a friendly face paired up with his normal looks

Oh wait, I have been...
i had to bus for roughly three cumulative hours yesterday (one and a half there and one and a half back) and i was listening to this song quite literally the entire time
i thougt the surburbia was him saying sO BABY WHYYYYYYYYYYYY
It's a little sad to see people taking the lyrics at face value, thinking it's actually just about a cannibalistic suburban cult.
The Song is much more metaphorical and those bland Interpretations somewhat butcher the Finer implications of wills lyrical decisions.
For example "white picket fences, barbed wire and trenches" is a callback to the 50s Obsession with cold war but it also shows suburban culture. The picket fences *are* the trenches. Suburbia is a warzone, a competition to be the best in "being normal". A picket fence is as much a territorial line as a warzone.
And the cannibalism isnt actual cannibalism. It's about how people push other people down, gossip over them or such, to Benefit from them. Etc etc
2:49 anyone else see what I’m seein?
Thank you for this
Oh nice! It's the character from the Impress Your Creators video! 👀 👌
