Your mindset about working and how they’ll “ replace you tomorrow “ is exactly me. Family time, memories, enjoying your life is what it’s all about . Not money not a career. Glad someone gets it ❤

Most definitely too many people take the small things, most important things in life for granted most times over materialism and careers same difference so I get you as well. The one thing you can’t never get back or no amount of money can buy is …. Your time! ❤❤

I dropped out of dental school because of those reasons and mainly because my mental health matters and it was NOT making me happy. I gained weight and lost time with my family (mom of 2)

wow the fact that you worked as a nurse through the height of covid is crazy, huge respect to you girl. the nurses and doctors, medical staff etc working through that time were the most essential part of our society and how we handled it together. i dont blame you for choosing a different path. we need better for our healthcare workers.

I went to nursing school straight out of high school. I made it to clinicals and decided to change my major to social work. I’m 25 with no kids, and I also spend a lot of time with my family. I am a Deputy now at a jail. I am glad you made this video. I used to think that being a nurse, was the best route for me. I’m glad I changed my plan. I’m enjoying life with my mother and dog. @@NewbirthHannah05 yeah but we shouldn’t have to travel to make this amount of money, ceo, cfo, cno and all the big dogs make so much money off of nurses, techs, doctors and want take more for themselves instead of giving nurses what they need. It doesn’t even make sense that they would pay outside nurses more to work than pay their staff it is so backwards. The healthcare system doesn’t even care about patients, the sicker they are the more money they make. It makes me sick sometimes but me personally this was what I was meant to do.

I retired a year ago after 40 years in healthcare, completely burned-out by the constant stress, lack of support by leadership and abuse by patients.
If I knew then what I know now I would have gone into HR. No one ever died from a HR mistake.
As a military nurse I worked countless 32-40 hour duty days, no sleep, no meal break, only a couple brief bathroom breaks.
Decades of dozens of lifts per shift ruined my back, hips, shoulders. But now I retired and learning to live like a human being again.

I just became a nurse last year and work on a med surg floor… It’s so hard to have a healthy work life balance because it takes me almost a full 24 hours for my brain and body to recover from my shifts: they are EXHAUSTING!! I’m 21 and I too get so much anxiety on shifts. I too like traveling, food (especially pho), and am debating on switching my career but I am not familiar with posting on TH-cam. But I just came across your channel through this video today. It’s inspiring and insightful. Thank you for being you and sharing your experience❤

I totally know how you feel and relate to you so much about the anxiety before going in to work a shift and feeling so burnt out from everything. If you haven't already checked it out I high.y recommend you look into procedural nursing. I worked in GI Endoscopy and it was a dream!!! No weekends, no nights, no holidays. You won't have the same patient for the whole day, you have the opportunity to rotate between being in the pre/post area or in the procedure rooms. My quality of life was so significantly better when I switched from bedside to outpatient procedures.

    • @OhHeyKathy
      @OhHeyKathy 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

You could even check out Cath lab, interventional radiology, those areas tend to take call and you would work the normal nursing schedule but without the stress of what you had to go through doing bedside!

I have been a nurse for 33 years, all of the things you are saying are very true. I once recorded a meeting where I was told my performance was not up to par and that someone complained. It was to tell me the assistant head nurse was going to come along with me on my home care nurse visits. All of the other nurses were working for free and doing 12 plus hours for an 8 hour day. I could only bring myself to do 10 hours daily and so I put down 10 hours and worked begrudgingly for free for 2 hours. This is common practice in the field. They wanted employees to be available 24/7 and they had recently implemented a deal where you could no longer bring a supply tote and had to visit the patient with no supplies and if you needed them you had to drive all the way to the supply warehouse which was 20 city miles or more and then they could bill the patient for 2 visits somehow by twisting the words ...I transferred back to the inpatient within 1 week of that episode.. I recorded that conversation and they demanded the tape.. I refused. I left quietly and resumed my nursing.. this is just one example of the maltreatment nurses experience. As far as times, can never plan anything because you do not know if the next shift will arrive on time or at all and your time to be off is when your done and not a set time but they want you to clock out at the correct time due to the pressures on them from Corporate. Grrr. I stopped this career when I became physically sick and was having chronic pain..I could not do it any longer..Peace my friend. Im now on disability as are many of my nurse friends. I do some gig work for a little bit of extra money when I feel up to it...back is thrashed,Nerves thrashed, Blood Pressure crazy...

After two months my mentor do me a bad evaluation and I had to leave......I felt really bad. After that I had to work at dentistrary were the wages are do bad...They ruin my life. Also in my country is very hard ti be hired in a hospital. Many jobs are already done but we fools keep give exams for the spots.....

I was in night school so I lost time from my family (mom of 2), I wasn’t home to cook dinner, no down time with my family etc. thankfully my husband took care of that while I was gone but that also took a toll on my relationship. The instructors were not helpful or professional. They wasted my time. Most days we’d have a bullshit day when I could’ve been home with my family. Overall, I tried my best and I’m so much happier now. I travel more and most importantly physically and mentally better.

Maybe this is a sign for me, I’ve been contemplating for a long time even if I should continue with nursing even though I love what I think this path could be for me. But the lack of motivation and the mental strain pushes me back. Also smoking helps with my stress and it’s enjoyable. It’s too much pressure for being young and not doing the things I want to enjoy. Maybe one day I’ll cross that path again but I’m taking this as my sign ❤

Being in the medical field can be stressful. It makes the job not fun at all, especially if you're dealing with so much negative energy. Nurses should get more time with family and friends, not working 12 hours every day and they should increase the pay as well. There are many jobs out there and many things you could do.

I worked in aged care. (Weekend Overnights by choice.) I got injured on the job one shift due to having an AIN flat out refuse to help with manual handling. (Resulted in bursitis.) I was denied work cover and I was abused by other workers when I had come in for a light duty shift. (All because I couldn't manually handle or I couldn't operate the hoists etc.) Nights were fine for me. (I picked a night shift to avoid all the bullying in the toxic workplace culture.... Mostly... There were people who in the early mornings that excused me of being lazy.. (because they didn't like morning shifts... Which is not my problem. Don't pick morning shifts if you don't like them etc... and don't accuse people who work nights of doing nothing...
I've had to ring the paramedics because I've had two residents who were very sick and I knew that if anything were to go very wrong? I would be blamed legally... No.. I wasn't going to risk it. I would have managers, co workers, etc who would try to get me to give medications. No way.... I told them to get stuffed. It was out of my scope of practice and I did not sign up for extra responsibility for fuck nothing extra pay/security etc. I was not going to go to jail for accidentally giving the wrong medication or the wrong medication dosage when I was already under stress.
I went on placement when I was doing my ens... I refuse to give medication because we hadn't done such in our training.... And then? The RN in charge reported to the facilitator of the aged care facility and accused me of not performing vital observations and BGLs.... I had previous aged care experience of course so I was not at all afraid to stand up for myself and stayed the legal facts of what students was able to do... And more importantly? What we weren't legally able to do. Then the facilitator had the nerve to say to me that I have to be put on a behaviour plan 3 days out from finishing my placement that said facility!!! (when my education company found out what was going on? they were appalled.) they also were using the CCTV cameras to spy on us students.... They accused me of being on my phone too much yet half the time? I was gravitating towards my phone because I didn't have supervision...! The enrolled nurses and the registered nurses were all seemingly too busy to help us EN students...! There was hardly any sense of direction from them.. you would have to be on to them over and over and over again if there was anything that you could do or what you were supposed to do etc. I never ever ever refused to do BGL's or vital Observations.. I had my logbook to prove it. (Which would go back to the educational institution where I was training to become an EN.)
Quitting nursing for me was very very sad. I basically said I didn't fail. the system failed me. I tried in 3 or 4 separate aged care facilities .. I gave it my best shot... And realised pretty early that no one would care for the carer.. and we were again expendable... And I deserve better than that... I am now planning to start my own art business and take commissions for people for some form of income... But more importantly? Art is therapeutic.. and who knows? Maybe I can combine my love of art into art therapy for aged care residents..
I look at nursing now as an occupation I will never go back into until it comes time to look after my parents. (I am an only child and so I want to be able to look after my parents for as long as possible within their own home and well into when they are put in aged care etc.)
I was the same as you. I felt that helping people was going to give me a sense of positive purpose.. even though nursing and medicine & general is emotionally charged. I was prepared for that.. I was prepared for deaths and emergencies , behaviours of concern and everything in between.... But to have residents actually have to defend me from toxic nurses?? That was what convinced me that this job was not suitable for me anymore... And there was no reason why I should keep suffering because of it.
I am the happiest I've ever been making art and making cosplay costumes.. I'm learning how to 3D print which is no easy task! I have also said that healthcare is a whole will flatline..... And at least if that ever happens? I can then have the skills to look after my own parents and know what I need to do for them.. 😔
I wish you all the best in your journey.

I am really tired of people being mistreated so much in a work environment. Not being given proper time off for a minimum of 2 days in a row! Why is that so much to ask for!? This is a major reason why employees become irtitable and quit. A person should not just work all the time like a mule being under-paid without being able to recharge and enjoy their lives. And yeah people need to stop bringing their bitchiness to work! This is the reason I am self-employed or do independent contractor work. A bunch of weirdos in these work places and what makes it worse is these people know your legal name, phone number, residential address--nerve racking to me. People do not realize what they are subjected to dealing with the general public often. I went through men being aggressive toward me in the work-place for not responding to their advances like they are entitled to it! People just freak me out.
