I am a NICU nurse and have been for over 10 years now and I am still in love. Are there days where I went home and cried absolutely. Were there times that I was super stressed because of short staffing absolutely. I think some people come into nursing for the wrong reasons and you will find out quick. Not at all saying this was you but some people are attracted by the amount of money they think they can make not realizing alot of that money is OVER TIME and shift differential. Sure a nurse in California pulls in over 100k but you have to remember the col in that area is way higher than some other states. I say all of that to say if you are considering nursing make sure you are actually passionate about the role and not in it for money because you will be extremely sad and dissapointed. Also you can pivot and do other things besides bedside nursing. You can work in clinics doctors offices work in med spas etc. You can also work for insurance companies. The list goes on. Lastly if you are in adult nursing and hate it try pediatrics. We get so many deflectors in nicu from adult world and most stay and absolutely love it. Good luck on your journey. There's nothing wrong with realizing something isn't for you!
