I got my Bigger Geekier Box last week (thanks Cool Stuff!). Just in time, too, as my Big Geeky Box was on its last legs - I resorted to holding it together with packing tape - and had gotten so full I had to store rulebooks and miscellaneous stuff in the base game box. Another difference between the two boxes not touched on in the video: the four troughs where you keep the cards can come out of the bigger box. I sleeve all my cards (the trick is to use "penny" sleeves, which are inexpensive enough to do the trick) and playtest for upcoming expansions, and can confidently say you'll be good on space with this box for a while longer. The dividers that come with the bigger box are missing the Munchkin dividers, so if you have them, plan on keeping them. Also, it's a good idea to homebrew base dividers for each set, which comes in handy if you play by official rules (which is use only the bases from the sets that factions in play come from). Lastly, on the two factions: (1) Geeks are my favorite faction in the entire game still, and (2) All-Stars are an okay faction. Must have if you're a completionist.
I dig the box. I agree that the victory point tray is much too large and unnecessary and I have no idea what to use the other white box for. Honestly, I would have preferred a smaller VP holder and not had the 2nd tier in the box so it wouldnt be as tall.
The Sea Monster in the front seems to be one of the Promo Titans. Also the Geeks are actually my favorite faction for their ability to cancel things as they're played.
GELF could be Genetically Engineered Life Form but its also used as a replacement for a swear like "Gelf you man, that's messed up!" but this probably has some HP Lovecraft/Cthulhu meaning that's beyond me.
My Bigger Geekier Box is in the mail. I am at the point where my Big box is getting tight. (And i sleeve my cards. Of course It is not a huge deal. I didn't just one day but 1000 sleeves and sleeve my cards, i did it over time, Sleeving sets as I got them, so instead of sleeving 1000 cards at once, i am basically sleeving an EDH deck, less actually since it is only 88 smash up cards vs 100 MTG cards. I also originally sleeved them because i played smash up every week and got about 4 matches in a night. I saw the chances of my cards wearing down rather quickly (As i only had 8 at the time) and unlike MTG where you can buy a replacement card if it gets damaged (Though you do not want that to happen) Smash up you would need to buy a new set. So, i need the extra space. I like the idea of space for tokens, and I like space to put dice. Plus i get the All stars faction. So the question is, what to do with my BGB? Well i have a lot of magic cards that could use some sorting. And I am gonna have an extra geeks faction i can sell.
Eh I really like smash up but the game has gotten pretty excessive at this point. I'm pretty satisfied with what I have and while the recent factions have interested me I haven't felt the desire to keep buying it over getting a new game. So while the box is cool I feel like that is what the first box should have been and I don't feel like buying another and wasting the money I spent on the first box.
Be sure to keep the Smash Up: Big in Japan dividers that come in the Bigger, Geekier Box since those don't have Titans on the backs of them. You no longer have to use the Titans as dividers! (This is true with any faction that got a Titan from the Titans Event Kit.)
Michael Czerniewski I know. I have seen YOUR COPY of the box. But the point was, he said he didn't see any currently unreleased factions on it, and there are 2 right there.
The All-Stars were the first of what seems to be annual Event Kits that AEG makes exclusively available to all of the FLGS with the promise to make the packs themselves available to the public a year later (which is why All-Stars are now in the bigger box). To get the pack, you either had to participate in an event at the FLGS or buy it on the secondary market (eBay). This year's event kit was the Titans. The pack retroactively adds Titans to a few of the older factions. I'm curious how they'll be sold to the public this time next year.
I have the Big Geeky Box, I miss Oops You Did Again, Cease and Desist, That 70s Expansion, What Where We Thinking and Munchkin, and I have the Sheep deck, and honestly, I don't see any reason of buying it. I wish there was another way of getting the All-Stars faction. I don't want to spend lots of money for simply a comprehesive and complete rule book and one new faction and a huge-ass box that won't fit anywhere.
Fair warning: if you get this box do not throw out the rulebook for that 70s expansion. It explains the rules of its factions with examples that aren’t included in the giant rulebook
Just for clarification, I believe this to be inaccurate information. What is likely to be the case is that this individual believed that the information for both Disco Dancers and Truckers BASES are 'seemingly' absent from the Bigger Geekier Rulebook. In fact, they are all covered under "Bases (by Name) (pg 25). If anyone wishes to clarify or challenge this point, however, I am open to discussion.
@@dustinburlet7249 No That 70's Expansion literally has a small section with examples showing how Foxy Green, Diva, The Last Dance and Dancing King could be used in certain situation. It had diagrams of games in progress and not just text.
The "comprehensive" rule book is obsolete already. As soon as new factions come out with new rules, you have to start collecting rule books again :(. Also, it was not clear if the faction dividers have the "boss" for the faction included.
The rulebook does say "(For Now)" on the front cover to acknowledge your first point. As to your second point, the answer is no, the dividers don't uniformly feature the "boss" minion.
I just spent $90+ to sleeve mine this month and only because I am about to start taking my collection to my local game store on game nights and do not trust people I do not know with my bare cards.
Thanks for the review Tom. I agree with 6.32....i really wish we consumers weren't put in these situations...i agree the Big Geeky Box now seems like a wasted step'. In saying that i agree that if completionists continue investing in the series...then they'll value the bigger box. But for me, i'm pretty chuffed with the Big Geeky Box i've already got. Can't afford to be throwing money at more 'storage'....not to mention i've got to store that bastard on a shelf somewhere o. O...bugger that. Cheers mate, appreciate the review as always.
This game has gotten too bloated at this point. I like the game, but do we really need 50+ factions,(or however many they are up to now.) A lot of the new ones seem to have a lot of stuff that is similar to the prior factions.
As someone that has played Smash Up over 150 times, allow me to disagree. None of the newer factions are like the older ones. Also, maybe i am biased because i like the game a lot, but i don't have a problem with them continuing to support the game. The more the merrier !
As of the upcoming Oops You Did It Again set, there are 64 factions in the game, all of which are unique in some way. And they still have plenty of ideas for future expansions and future factions.
The next two expansions after Oops will be World Tour, Parts 1 and 2. Hey, if they keep coming up with unique expansions and people want to buy them, why not make more?
I love the drop that was just dropping the box on the table.
2:11 "Actually, probably should keep Munchkin."
I have a feeling this is the first time Tom has ever said that.

They should put that end quote as a sticker "Warning: You're buying a box."

Genetically Engineered Life Form

When do we get a Dice Tower Faction?
The geek faction: For when you want to play the groan-worthy aspects of gaming.
I dig the box. I agree that the victory point tray is much too large and unnecessary and I have no idea what to use the other white box for.

I've lost a few of the dividers, so it's definitely worth it to upgrade from Big Geeky Box to Big Geekier Box.
It has dividers for the base set!? I legit need those :(. Now I gotta buy it)
GELF could be Genetically Engineered Life Form but its also used as a replacement for a swear like "Gelf you man, that's messed up!" but this probably has some HP Lovecraft/Cthulhu meaning that's beyond me.

I’ve never understood why you wouldn’t sleeve your cards?
Does the rulebook deal with the newest set Oops You Did it Again with duels and stuff?
Yep!

What’s wrong with using the titans as dividers as intended
They should have added the Sheep.
Last time I checked, you can still get Sheep for free at AEG's website.
For free?! I had to pay for the German version :/
as long as your in the USA otherwise shipping makes it almost as expensive than an entire new expansion for just one faction
Just at a glance, I can see the Samurai and Viking factions from the Oops expansion on there.
The Oops faction dividers are in the box as well.
Michael Czerniewski
I know. I have seen YOUR COPY of the box.
But the point was, he said he didn't see any currently unreleased factions on it, and there are 2 right there.
Egyptians and Cowboys are on the sides.
Wow! If DC Deck Building doesn't stop they're going to have to do something similar.
There are pictures for the giant cards for all the factions but those aren’t new factions
The All Stars came from a Smash Up Store Tournament participation reward

You are right . . .pp. 14-15 are EXCELLENT examples that should have been added :-)
@@FatherTime89 You are bang on . . . pp. 14-15 of That 70's Expansion are fantastic and ought to have been included

geeks are a great counter faction, esp against aliens
Call me insane because I have all my cards sleeved.

hello, I have a sleeving cards problem.....

Its ridiculous. Too big. Its just stupid to have that huge box. Pass.
