I was SO excited to see this video! You have the best recommendations. I've owned A Thousand Splendid Suns, but I'm still so emotionally devastated by The Kite Runner (which I read years ago), so I've been hesitant to read it... sounds like I need to make it a priority this year! ❤
I feel like I'm in the same position as you, I'm too scared to read his other books now 😂. A Thousand Splendid Suns is amazing though, I'd say just go for it.
Oooh great top 5. I also loved a thousand splendid suns. I have your wish is my command on my wish list and have just ordered disorientation on your recommendation. Happy new year ♥️
Those sounds great! I want to check a lot of these out, but I think you especially sold me on Disorientation. I had so many great books this year, but my favorites were This is What Lesbian Looks Like, which is an anthology from 1999 that I havent stopped thinking about and for fiction, Compound Fracture by Andrew Joseph White.
I've added a few of these to my TBR. I've owned A Thousand Splendid Suns for years but have been dragging my feet on reading it because this will be my last Khaled Hosseini book and I don't want to be done with them! 😅
Shubeik Lubeik and Against the Loveless World are on my favorites list from this year as well! My top read of 2024 though is How to Say Babylon by Safiya Sinclair.
just finished arundhati roy’s fiction so i’ve been wondering where to start w her nonfic! my seditious heart is high on my tbr. husseini’s books have been the unfortunate victim of my “assigned reading at school so i feel like i wont enjoy them” mentality… which i so need to get over and just give it a go!!! rip
On Palestinian authors or themes, can I recommend The Book of Disappearance, Enter Ghost and The Arsonist City. Thank you for the poster behind you - in solidarity with the women of Afghanistan and Iran - I have been working alot on Afghan women’s rights and supported the stop gender apartheid campaign for Iranians and Afghans. Your support means a lot
I started Enter Ghost this year but didn't finish it, I'm gonna start it back later in the new year. I'll definitely keep those other books on my radar. Thank you! It's so lovely to hear about your work on challenging gender apartheid! I made that poster for the IWD Women's March we had this year (or last year, I guess 😅). We're not all free until we're ALL free. My solidarity will always be with the women of Afghanistan, Iran, and everywhere.
@@booksaremysociallife Enter Ghost has an unlikeable protagonist and might not be for everyone but given the Gaza conflict, I cannot recommend Book of Disappearance enough (what if one day, Palestinians just disappeared) and also the Arsonist City follows a Syrian-Lebanese family and covers the Israeli Palestinian conflict and regional wars too - and it is a beautiful family story. Keep supporting the campaigns friend. It made me feel so good to see that poster.
missed seeing you around booktube! appreciate your lists as always!
Welcome back! Stay safe out there!
Nice to see you again - all the best for the New Year 💜
Same to you! ❤
I also read Azadi this year and loved it! My favorite read of 2024 was Octavia Butler's Earthseed Series.
So many great intense reads.
I always appreciate your recommendations. One of my favorites this year was BLACK GIRL CALL HOME, a collection of beautiful poems by Jasmine Mans.
I will absolutely be picking up Azadi! Awesome recommendations.
Glad you're back, you had such awesome reads this year.

Those sound really interesting!
He is back! 😀I also loved Abulhawa's book! Have a wonderful 2025, reading-wise and otherwise.
Thank you! You too!
Disorientation is on my long list. Gotta get to that one at some point.

I feel that, it's gonna be a while until I get to his other two
Azadi sounds super-interesting. Right now I'm reading Quarterlife by Devika Rege which is fiction but covers some of the same themes.
Sounds like one I should keep on my radar
Azadi really sounds interesting to me, so I've added that to my TBR. Especially because I greatly believe in the transformative power of fiction.
I think you'll love it!
Shubeik Lubeik and Against the Loveless World are on my favorites list from this year as well! My top read of 2024 though is How to Say Babylon by Safiya Sinclair.
I keep hearing good things about that one!

I think you should definitely give him a chance, at least A Thousand Splendid Suns. It was so good!
