The box instructions literally say "if you don't have thermometer, ...the crack stage is reached when a drop of syrup, dropped into cold water hardens into a brittle thread."

I blanched my apples dried them and the mix ran off in my pan it was a sad mess. Using this kit! Guess I'll tried from scratch.
did you adjust your fire after the 18 minutes?
I did! I turned it down to Low... I also tried to work as quickly as I could to prevent the candy from changing its consistency.
Ours are super stinky on the teeth, and don’t crack like a store bought candy apple. Did we do something wrong? Or is that how the kit turns out?

How you make the apple butter ?
I used a crock pot recipe but didn’t write it down 😕 if you check some recipes out online, I’d def recommend using a crock pot👍🏻
