Locomotives (along The Broadway in Philly) rolled by a block behind our school in the Fifties. We'd all moan if it wasn't a smoker. Sister in 3rd Grade had all the schedules and we knew the names of most of the trains goin' by. We also groaned at the sound of the new diesels.
I have to agree with 'theuntold90'. Don't get me wrong, Southern Pacific #4449 always looks good. However, if I were to put her paint schemes in order from best to not quite the best (NOT BAD), the order would be: 1) Warbaby paint scheme (black and silver), 2) American Freedom Train paint scheme (red, white, & blue), and 3) her normal paint scheme (red and orange). This is just my opinion, though.
Presenting the bonus Footage of the Saint Louis, & San Francisco railroad 4-8-2 Mount #1522 now back 2 Being Sold Away Again 4 Restoration by A Big-Rig: 18 Wheeler In 2 Separate Pieces this time which is Part of Truckin' on The Railroad.
Got a question, I'm sure someone can answer it. Why is it that the smoke from the stacks, can be black as night, one time then grey or white at other times. New at this railfanning love the steamers and trying to learn all I can. Thank you.
Gotta admit- there's nothing like the sound of steam! They really had soul. Absolutely mesmerizing.
