The back half of season 2 really is banger after banger. With just one lil exception for some fish monsters. It’s not a terrible ep but it was left over from season 1 and I think you can tell. It’s very clever and we get to see how Buffy blames herself for “killing” Angel, even tho is wasn’t on purpose.
The fish episode is bad but it's entertainingly bad IMO, better than some season 1 episodes which are just kind of slow and a bit boring. Fish episode meanwhile is just an absolutely absurd premise. Worst part is its' placement in the season right before the finale.
I only have eyes for you is my favorite s2 ep and one of my favorite episodes of th3 series go fish is my least favorite on the series killed by death I think is the scariest I have very different feelings for each of these three episodes
@@nickgjenkins “After the fall of the Soviet Union…” is, IMO, the greatest moment of “this line just shattered my suspension of disbelief and ran over it back and forth with a car” in the whole Buffyverse 😂 But yeah David Fury is great and his writing for Cordelia is top-notch. It’s a placement issue more than anything but I really don’t know where else you could put Go Fish.
I think she thought it was sad but not sad enough to cry and I’m the same tbh, the first scene that made me cry in Buffy happens at the end of this season because I just felt so bad for her and as a kid watching it destroyed me 😂
Season 5 is one of my favorite season of television ever! Every single episode is important, even the ones that feel like fillers at the time. Just an incredibly structured season!
I love Cordy! Yes, she started out as a stock mean girl, but she slowly gathers depth. & honestly… she still tries to do good & help Buffy even though she doesn’t have to. Drusilla is wild & kinda scary, but iconic & entertaining. Spike standing up is such a moment. As is that whole episode really. I know the swim team guys are “set free”… but it’s kinda awful. I don’t feel bad for the coach at all, but oof.
“I only have eyes for you” is one of my favorite episodes of this entire series. It’s such a rich episode for being a one off/MOTW ‘filler’ episode while still incorporating major plot elements. I also love love love how early Buffy used unsigned musical artists to keep the music as timeless as possible. Ahhhhhhh I’m so excited for Becoming Parts 1&2. The tears I WEPT when this first aired thinking that things would never be the same.
I was about to remark, "We will not tolerate hate against Ms. Calendar in this house." But you followed up the "Giles can do so much better..." with a silent "ME!" so I'll allow it. LOL Xander stepping up to Angel in the hospital is Chef's Kiss. Also, Cordy is spittin' some facts. She never said anything that was "untrue". Remember that her philosophy is that, "Tact is just people saying things that aren't true." Xander: "I defined something? Accurately?" Ashleigh: "I know. We're all shocked." 🤣🤣🤣 Spike stepping out of the wheelchair is PEAK! Cordy's monologue at the pool shows that she really does love Xander.
Thanks Ashleigh for watching this series, I was in my mid-twenties when this first came out and it seemed like a teenager' show, thus I never watched it, but now I've been really enjoying it so thank you. PS during your last live you joked about the possibility of substituting beans for the MGM lion, just wanted to tell you something like that's already been done just watched the end credits of the 1970s classic the Mary Tyler Moore show you'll see what I mean😅
Ashleigh if you haven't seen it, The Mary Tyler Moore show is really worth checking out in your own time and I don't think I would do very well on the channel😢
"I Have Eyes Only For You" is such a clever episode comparing the teacher/student relationship to Buffy and Angel. It was things the real Angel and Buffy didn't get to say to one another. I knew you'd like that one! As for "Go Fish"....wellllll...it really belongs in Season 1.
Buffy definitely has a lot more on her shoulders, and that makes being a teenager harder, not easier. And she was just blaming herself for Jenny's death and Giles' behavior anyway.
I thought Killed By Death was a pretty decent stand alone episode, with the children in fear of the monster. Buffy again comes through and we see her as the ultimate protector she is. This is actually quite scary in that Der Kindestod is a terrible monster, which we do see throughout the show that some of the monsters are incredibly evil and terrifying. The fears of children are well shown in this episode and the innocence and fear they have. Quite a funny and cute scene at the end where we see Buffy, Willow, and Xander acting like children themselves letting Joyce run around providing them with snacks and drinks, a great scene where we are reminded they are at this point still very much kids themselves.
In episode 20, Gage is played by Wentworth Miller. He would go on to be the lead in "Prison Break" and appear in both the CW's "The Flash and its spin-off "Legends of Tomorrow". He would also appear in such films as "underworld", "Stealth", and "resident Evil: Afterlife". Nurse Ruthie (Conchata Ferrell) would appear in "Mystic Pizza" with Julia Roberts, "Network", "Edward Scissorhands", "Erin Brockovich, Mr. Deeds, and "K-PAX". She did most of her work on tv show series like "L.A. Law", "Maude", "Hot L Baltimore", "B.J. and the Bear", "E/R", "Hearts Afire", "Teen Angel", and as 'Berta' in "Two and a Half Men".
It’s terrible I had to scroll this far for your comment. Hawkes is a fantastic actor and he was incredible in Winter’s Bone. Just a great, great actor.

So, since Gage broke free and went into the sea...I guess you could say this is Wentworth Miller's first...wait for it....Prison Break? (Also, does that gorgeous man EVER age?) ❤💚
Fun reactions to 3 very different types of episodes. For me the most important story in the ethical and emotional education of Buffy is, I Only Have Eyes For You. The philosophical questions that are raised in this episode is the type of in-depth conversation that is in many college philosophy classes. The concept of true forgiveness is a main pillar of western civilization. Buffy had to spend the first season to fully grasp what being a slayer means and to accept the fact that she was chosen to be the slayer. But starting in episode seven, Lie To me, she has had to understand the ethical and moral dilemmas that being the slayer causes for her. This has been a very difficult journey to understand that being a slayer is not being a killer. This episode examines the subtle, but very important difference between vengeance, justice, and forgiveness Examine and listen to the way that Buffy talks and views the boy before she has her experience with being the boy. To her it’s very simple. The boy kills his lover, so he must have vengeance exact upon him. That means life in prison, death sentence, and that’s the end of it. For how else can Buffy feel? However, this episode there’s something that no other slayer could ever possibly feel and experience. She is placed into the boys, body mind and soul. She understands and feels the overwhelming grief and sorrow caused by horrendous action. Buffy feels what it’s like to be a killer. She also feels the incredible remorse and the fact that she needs true forgiveness. No other slayer would ever have this ability to understand the need for true forgiveness. She would also not understand that the power of forgiveness is with those that grant something that is not earned. Because true forgiveness is not earned, but granted. There’s many more things to say about this, but the key thing is that Buffy is forever changed. She will meet out justice and do what is necessary, but she now understands that forgiveness in the truest sense is a difficult thing to do and can only be granted by someone that has been harmed. She would never be able to understand this unless she was in the boys body. Also, this is why Angel has the reaction that he does. Has a vampire he was understanding the need to give forgiveness and he felt the reason the forgiveness was being granted. Now imagine an evil soul is committed atrocities for 250 years suddenly realizing the whole concept to true forgiveness. Very powerful. This episode and it’s outcome as well as Lie To Me with the consequences and choices examined marquee foundational points for the entire journey of Buffy.
Buffy always make things about her because 1. It is, Angelus kills Jenny to torment her, and 2. Buffy is someone that often take responsability for a lot of stuff, I mean the " I Only Have Eyes For You " episode is focusing on her forgiving hersel. That’s why I love Buffy so much
To be fair, Joss Whedon flat out said that the show runs on her pain, meaning Buffy. This was in response to I think Sarah complaining about having to do a really emotional scene over and over, and it was really wearing on her, and so she talked to Joss about it. And his response was that the show thrived and prospered on her pain. So it's very much intentional on his part, to have most of the drama be centered around Buffy and her ordeal. Which I mean...yeah, she IS the title character of the show, so it's just SOP to have the bulk of the drama involve her.
@@jasonwright8832 Though Joss always did a VERY good job giving the supporting cast of his shows, their own depth and arcs. More than a lot of other shows do.

Already know that I'm going to love these episode reactions. 😊 Loving your Christmas tree earrings. The first two episodes are my favorites of the season. With the first episode being one of the scariest of the whole series. Fantastic performances by Sarah Michelle Gellar and David Boreanaz in the last few minutes of the second episode. And a good somewhat Xander focused episode for the third one. I really hope that you continue with season 3 next before taking a break from the series for a bit. Season 3 is one of the best in the series. Plus, you'll probably need some time to figure out the scheduling. Because starting with season 4, some of the episodes of the spin-off "Angel" crossover. Looking forward to your next movie and "Buffy" reactions. 😊
So regarding Druscilla's insane behavior, she's basically what is called a Malkavian vampire. Back in the 90s, there was a tabletop game called Vampire: the Masquerade, and it had all these different vampire clans, that all represented the various archetypal tropes of vampire lore. The "batshit crazy vampires who just cackle their way through history" were called the Malkavian clan. And she's VERY much channeling that kind of vibe. They're just....completely bent. The actual process of becoming a vampire, breaks them mentally in some way. Literally madness is kind of a superpower for them. That's why she is like that.
One minor detail, at the time of the episode, the closest Krispy Kreme to Sunnydale's fictional location was nearly a 2 hour drive. Cordy drove almost 4 hours to get Xander those donuts.
The doctor said "possible fractures" - - she probably had a cracked bone or two, but slayers have fast healing (not Wolverine fast, but... better than normal folks) - - also the doctor might have just been going on the bruising in assessing her... anyone else not super-powered would have "possibly" had fractures to go with the bruises (which healed up long before the flu left).
Apparently Sarah Michelle Gellar and David Boreanaz would prank each other by eating really smelly food (like lots of garlic) right before kissing scenes. This amuses me.

Do you realize this show is called Buffy the Vampire Slayer? She's not always "making it about her." It literally is about her...Jenny was killed because of Angel's obsession with Buffy...their relationship wouldn't have happened if he hadn't seduced her...he wouldn't have lost his soul...Jenny wouldn't have died. It IS all about Buffy. That's literally the show.

I actually like Go Fish. It was David Fury first(ish) episode and I love him as a writer and he brought a lot of zip to the dialog in the episode.
@@nickgjenkins “After the fall of the Soviet Union…” is, IMO, the greatest moment of “this line just shattered my suspension of disbelief and ran over it back and forth with a car” in the whole Buffyverse 😂
But yeah David Fury is great and his writing for Cordelia is top-notch. It’s a placement issue more than anything but I really don’t know where else you could put Go Fish.
The swim team das kinderstock nope she saw...good old slayer healing job perk not to cord.
Suddenly remembering the huge Angel poster I had as a teenager 😂 ah... nostalgia
I had a Buffy one. For exactly the same reasons 😂
Ashleigh is the first reactor I've seen to not be upset at Jenny's death. I applaud the originality.
I know, rilght? Ms. Calendar was amazing. Loved her character.
I think she was, kind of.
I think she thought it was sad but not sad enough to cry and I’m the same tbh, the first scene that made me cry in Buffy happens at the end of this season because I just felt so bad for her and as a kid watching it destroyed me 😂
Love your Buffy reactions. I hope you'll continue at least until (and including) Season 5. Seasons 3 and 5 are insanely good.
"Giles can do so much better than Ms. Calendar"
ME: Cackles in Band Candy
I was about to remark, "We will not tolerate hate against Ms. Calendar in this house." But you followed up the "Giles can do so much better..." with a silent "ME!" so I'll allow it. LOL
Xander stepping up to Angel in the hospital is Chef's Kiss. Also, Cordy is spittin' some facts. She never said anything that was "untrue". Remember that her philosophy is that, "Tact is just people saying things that aren't true."
Xander: "I defined something? Accurately?"
Ashleigh: "I know. We're all shocked."
🤣🤣🤣
Spike stepping out of the wheelchair is PEAK!
Same!😊😊
Ditto 👍
Ashleigh if you haven't seen it, The Mary Tyler Moore show is really worth checking out in your own time and I don't think I would do very well on the channel😢

Pay attention to the character that Betty White played.
She was originally going to play Blanche on Golden Girls.
Great reaction as always, but oh my, I can’t wait for you to watch the two-part finale !!!
Buffy's not making it about her, she's blaming herself.
The doctor said “possible multiple fractures,” which on closer examination turned out to be not.
Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954), which inspired the mutant fish episode, is one of the best monster movies of all time.
Xander acting like a teenager
Ashleigh: He's just a teen boy.
Buffy acting like a teenager
Ashleigh: It's not all about you.
Buffy definitely has a lot more on her shoulders, and that makes being a teenager harder, not easier. And she was just blaming herself for Jenny's death and Giles' behavior anyway.
But it is all about her, isn't it? After all she is in the title... ;-)
But she remains like that when she grows up… also Ashleigh not knowing how vaccines work is a bit disturbing
@@tzeentchianshe’s from Texas, I’m not overly surprised

I always forget your reviews of Buffy on Wednesdays and ever lunch break I am pleasantly surprised, thank you 🙏
I thought Killed By Death was a pretty decent stand alone episode, with the children in fear of the monster.

I burst out laughing when I first saw Willow's response to Jonathan admitting that he snuck in and peed in the pool.
"Oh. ...Ew!!"
I look forward to this every week! Thank you for what you do!
That’s John Hawkes as the janitor in “I only have eyes for you.”
It’s terrible I had to scroll this far for your comment. Hawkes is a fantastic actor and he was incredible in Winter’s Bone. Just a great, great actor.
One of my favorite actors! He was so incredible on Deadwood, I even named my cat after his character.
The actor who played Death is James Jude Courtney. He was Michael Myers in the recent Halloween trilogy. Glad you're getting more into this. S2 is phenomenal.
And I'm excited for Krampus!! Hardly anyone ever reacts to that.
Never knew that! Funny though, because the swim coach was played by Charles Cyphers , another Halloween alum. He played Sheriff Bracket in H1,H2 and the recent trilogy.
@Day-Day_7884 I thought I recognized him but I couldn't place it! There are so many cameos in this series.
So, since Gage broke free and went into the sea...I guess you could say this is Wentworth Miller's first...wait for it....Prison Break? (Also, does that gorgeous man EVER age?) ❤💚
"those boys really love their coach " 😮😱
32:18 - That sound!! The yodel of frustration and angst. LOVE IT!!
"take the drugs, take the drugs" - Ashley, 2024 (we'll never take THAT out of context)🤣🤣🤣
Cordy grows on you. Like a chia pet! 😉
This episode examines the subtle, but very important difference between vengeance, justice, and forgiveness
Examine and listen to the way that Buffy talks and views the boy before she has her experience with being the boy.
Great show! Me and my wife are rewatching it. This show was way before its time
0:27 "you would be messing with the dark magic"
I've never before seen someone stub their tongue months in the future
I appreciate you and thank you for making content.
Buffy has superior healing abilities, so her fractures and bruises heal much more quickly than ours.
My guess as to Buffy's hairstyle for episode 19 is because of the time period that the tragedy was set in, the 1950s.
Plus she is the main character in a series called "Buffy the Vampire Slayer". The series is legitimately all about her.
@@jasonwright8832 Though Joss always did a VERY good job giving the supporting cast of his shows, their own depth and arcs. More than a lot of other shows do.
asking for empathy from ashley is a bit of an ask, once she's decided she doesn't like someone, they could reveal themselves to be jesus and she'd still be after their blood

My grandma used to give me grapes and grape juice when I was sick, it's a tradition that goes back to her Irish roots but it's common all over Europe, particularly in the wine regions of France, Italy and Spain where most grapes come from.
I think I just realized that's why most cough medicines come in grape flavour.
No joke, I Only Have Eyes For You is in my top five Buffy episodes. I'm not even sure why, it just *works*
It's probably my favorite from season 2.
Already know that I'm going to love these episode reactions. 😊
Loving your Christmas tree earrings.
'I made water'
Lol. That's what I thought
“Its a big rock can’t wait to tell my friends they don’t have a rock this big”
“Someone wasn’t worthy “ (singsong voice)
Xander got balls. I'll give him that
Oh man, so excited to see your Srason 2 finale reaction next week!!!
If both do it at the same time, it probably won't ruin the scene.
You know, the best remedy against smell of garlic is … eating garlic.
Ashleigh's reaction at 16:20 is so perfect, and absolutely understandable too lmao
It's so sad that Buffy still feels personally responsible for Angel in E19
I mean, she is.
@transientanusShe had no idea what was going to happen.
Watching your reaction on christmas for the season finally will be a great xmas gift.
Her reaction to the sea monster transformation is... PERFECT. 👌
But somehow the Oreo joke is eww while 'the skin is the best part' is lol.....i think someone has a crush on Xander. 😍
I love it when a non-supernatural character takes down a big threat just by the strength of character. Xander is particularly good at it.
I'm LOVING watching you react to Buffy!! I agree, you must continue!! Buffy S3 for Jan '25!! Remember, teen angst will always surface for a while, & Buffy is not immune. She's 16, & in SoCal in the 90's-very dramatic! 😂
Dru & Spike are always so fun! Can't wait for more & adding in Angel later! You won't regret it, its all so good; & the character development is 😘!
Spike is my favorite. James Marsters nobody can play Spike except him.😊
Do you realize this show is called Buffy the Vampire Slayer? She's not always "making it about her." It literally is about her...Jenny was killed because of Angel's obsession with Buffy...their relationship wouldn't have happened if he hadn't seduced her...he wouldn't have lost his soul...Jenny wouldn't have died. It IS all about Buffy. That's literally the show.
Being reminded of a great tv series I watched a few times over the years and having an honest and hilarious comments of Ash-sorry I don't know how to spell your name-liegh can be a highlight of my day.
Love the hints about The Mayor terrifying everybody. Turns out gee willickers, the mayor is kind of cool.
BTW Ashleigh, if you happen to be interested. Charisma Carpenter (Cordi) did an official Playboy shoot back in this era. Back when there was still a magazine. And Yes, it is worth taking the time to look at. She was really proud of it.
Understated thing, but whenever Xander makes a serious threat no-one ever just laughs it off or fails to take him seriously.
Didn't remember Wentworth Miller and Bertha from Two and a half men being in a Buffy episode.
It's amazing how many stars showed up on Buffy.
Cordelia would make the world's best and worst therapist at the same time. She's extremely emotionally incisive, but tact is for poor people.
I had a therapist once who responded with everything I said with something about her. I guess you get what you pay for with free therapy.
Don't be so dramatic? This is Sunnydale, ma'am. Loving these reactions.
Season 4 has the creepiest episode, and one of the best. I believe it won some awards. You have a lot of great entertainment to look forward to.
Hush
Killed by death is clearly based on Freddy Krueger.
Ashleigh I love your reaction to Buffy the series it's been interesting to see this series Through Your Eyes since I've never watched it.
The actor who played gage is Wentworth Miller! He was in shows like Prisonbreak, The Flash & DC's Legends Of Tomorrow
The actress who played the nurse was Conchata Ferrell! She was in movies such as Krampus which who have watched, Mr Deeds & Edward Scissorhands. She also was in Two And A Half Men
The second episode in this video is one of my favourites
Back in the day, there was a bit of excitement about the special guest star doughnuts.
When I was a kid I liked IOHEFY but when I got older I understood it so much more and now it’s one of my favourite ever episodes it’s amazing !
You MUST keep going, the show just gets better and better as it goes along!
5:15 she's a slayer, even at half strength she's still going to heal a broken bone in under 12 hours.
"But it's not the velcro kind so give him a couple extra minutes" is one of my favorite burns of the show.
Also "After the fall of the Soviet Union..." is one of the funniest lines in TV history.
