@CD-zd6zr I think they're the original songs because they're the original bands singing them. I'm not completely certain, however. Bif Naked and Michelle Branch are definitely the originals.
You have to remember season 1 was a mid season replacement. It was basically "Here's a small budget, small amount of time and good luck you'll 90% get cancelled." So they are just experimenting trying to get the basics of the characters down so if they get another season they have a base to work from. I like both episodes but that's from the perspective of someone who's watched the whole show so there's a nostalgic view of watching all the characters as babies.
The thing about the “random off brand songs”…Joss Wedon purposely hired unknown bands to play at the Bronze because logically well known bands wouldn’t be playing a small club in a random small town like sunnydale. I actually quite enjoy it as I was a musician playing in alternative rock bands around this same time. It reminds me of the gigs we used to play.
Back in the day, I had the "Buffy: season 2" soundtrack. There are some songs on there that are bangers. It also had "It Doesn't Matter" by Alison Krauss and it's such a beautiful song. Of course "Full of Grace" was used expertly at the end of season 2, but it wasn't on the soundtrack (at least it wasn't on the CD I owned). Sidenote, if she makes it to season 6 (oh please, oh please 🙏🙏) I'm dying to see her reaction to "Once More With Feeling" Arguably considered one of the most ambitious (and best) single episodes of a television show EVER (rivaled by another Buffy episode: "The Body").
@@Auntiehoney217 I saw a TH-camr do a reaction to a random Buffy episode, he had never seen the show before, and the episode he watched was The Body. Great episode but if it’s your introduction to the whole series you’ll have no idea what’s going on.
@jesseedmondson2861 so true. Not signed up to any streaming service that has buffy but when Ashleigh started this series I found fuse is playing buffy and to my luck they were just starting with season 1 so taping and able to fast forward commercials. Half way now in season 2. This is definitely one of my most favorite series of all time. 🏆🏆🏆🏆
This is often why people do not watch Buffy. They see season 1 and do not like it. Then they watch the movie and cement their opinion. What they don’t realize is the show is an amazing look into what it’s like to go from teenage to adulthood. All the problems that go along with that… and supernatural stuff. It’s well written, funny and heartfelt. But you have to get halfway through season 2 to actually begin to see much of that. Stick with it. We promise there is a reason it has 7 seasons
I made the mistake of introducing my fiance to Buffy with season one. She didn't make it very far. I should have just started her on the season one finale and then moved straight to season 2. 😂
The thing is the show's creator never had the responsibility of show running a TV series before, let alone working from PA to producer. So he's working by the seat despite working with seasoned producers.
You have to power through Season 1. There are a couple good episodes but they were trying to find their groove. They most certainly find it in season 2!
Thank you Ashleigh for hanging in there during Buffy's high school years. Always remember that she may be the slayer BUT she is also a teenager too so the awkward and weird teenage drama will continue to be a part of the early episodes. BTVS will have some ok, good, excellent, and awesome episodes hang in there and you will not be disappointed on taking this ride.
@maisiesummers42 Kim Possible was a crime-fighting cheerleader leading a double life -- a good 5 years after Buffy was doing the same thing. Plus Kim Possible has whitty dialogue like Buffy.
"why is buffy being so dramatic about owen when she has *guy she doesn't like* and *guy that's never around*?" girl im loving these reactions but what?? she isn't sad because there isn't a replacement. she didn't just want a guy, she wanted owen. she genuinely liked him. she's sad that she can't keep it going with him and she's sad that he straight up said he only liked her because she was getting him into dangerous situations. he was becoming an adrenaline junkie. she can't just "teach him to be safe" because the only reason he wanted to be a part of it was to get into trouble. his entire reason for sticking around would have been to NOT BE SAFE. willow and xander got into it because they wanted to help jesse, and now they do it because they want to help buffy. it's giles' job. they're all careful and they don't want to go pick a fight in a bar at 3 am just for kicks. also, buffy shouldn't have to worry about "breaking xander's heart". not her problem. she doesn't owe him reciprocation just because he isn't weird about her being the slayer. especially not after the creepy shit he pulled in her bedroom and being an awful friend about owen loved the reaction anyways and i hope this doesn't come across as angry but yeah those are my thoughts and i hope you see buffy a little differently now!
Don’t worry Ashleigh, as with all tv shows, there are growing pains but I personally liked ‘The Pack.’ Can’t believe all the heat S1 is getting from everyone in the comment section. Is it very 90s? Yes! Still quality though.
It's underrated for sure. I hate it because of the pig but that show has some pretty twisted implications for the rest of the pack if Xander can remember everything
Liked _The Pack_ too. Mainly because the scene 24:26 where they walk toward the camera in slo-mo to pretentious guitar riffs just reminds me so much of 90s teen soap operas.
It’s the same with TNG season 1 and 2, or the myth DS9 only got good in season 4, or the NES turtles game was bad. The internet just created these bubbles that everyone believes or are afraid to go against it. Thing is we also just loved fun tv back then and didn’t need all the massive plot lines, so things like this, relic hunter, xena/herc etc etc…we just loved the goofy fun!
Yeah. It's 1997. Cordy is the only one to be shown with a cellphone, because she's a rich girl. At this point, it's a pager or nothing for most people.
lol I was a manger at a movie theater in the 90's and I was given a "work beeper". Shortly after I got a "work cell phone". That cell phone was the size of a small brick and just as chunky.
17:10 so xander and willow are there to help buffy, owen or whatever his name is is a adrenaline junkie. He wouldnt be as cautious as them and hed be looking for trouble. I guess hes like those students in police academies who go looking for trouble and wanna shoot things. Lol hed be a tackleberry. (Watch the police academy movies)
My husband wore one in high-school too, carried a zippo (and he doesn't smoke at all) and a Swiss army knife too. Army surplus jacket and boots too. He graduated in 2007 I think.
Lol. The beeper and the 'I'm cool and trying to be unique' pocketwatch were both very 90s things. Also, I believe all the bands that play at the Bronze were real bands at the time - a lot of indie artists/bands doing it for exposure but some bigger ones off and on as well.
I had a pocket watch too. I tried with a wristwatch, but I would always take it off during class, then forget it when the class is over. But recently I found that milanese loop works well for me.
The main reason I don't wear a wristwatch is that I have unusually large wrists so the bands are always too tight. Plus keeping a watch in my pocket means I'm less likely to break it or have it catch on something.
The whole point of the show was “high school is hell”. They just live on a hellmouth that makes it a literal hell. Bullies, secrets you don’t tell people, trauma, growing up etc can take many forms. Just try to look at the show from that vantage point. But yes season one was more of a “feature creature of the week” and goes more into season storylines and less of the kooky different monster a week.
I think the phrase you're looking for is trust the process because I think they were experimenting with what they could do or should do and base where to go with it on the ratings of certain episodes like oh that didn't go over well better not to that again
Season 1 is Buffy's "growing pains" season. It hasn't found its footing yet. But trust me, by season two, the show really figures out what it wants to be
It was so small a budget that it was shot on 16 mm film stock because it was all they could afford. It's why the first season has that really grainy look to it.
Yeah, but it's also enough space to get a full story out. How many recent shows have pacing issues because they need to get a full storyline out in 10 episodes
"The Munsters" season 1 had 38 episodes. And "The Addams Family" season 1 had 34 episodes. Nowadays, they give 8 episodes a season. Can't even say its quality over quantity now as many shows have terrible episodes.
It sounds like a lot of the comments are from people who didn't watch the video. Some notes on season 1 - the entire season of 12 episodes had been written and recorded the year before they aired as a spring/summer replacement show, so basically without any viewer feedback. They were also made on a very low budget, something that was increased in following seasons. Also, this was at a time where most series were episodic as apposed to being serialized. One other note, many of the fans who may comment have seen the entire series many times. They may have forgotten what a joy it was to discover this series from the start, being impatient for you to get to their favorite episodes and story lines in latter seasons.
Like with every long-running series, there are some growing pains but once the show finds its footing it gets awesome. Fun Fact: Season 1's Big Bad (main villain) is played by Mark Metcalf who played Niedermeyer in Animal House ("What is THAT? A PLEDGE PIN? ON YOUR UNIFORM?!?" and was the dad in two legendary Twisted Sister music videos.
Mhmm.....with her having such a tender heart, if she falls in love with season 2 like the rest of us fans did.....well...like you said: "...you in danger, girl."
Flutie went out way too early. An interesting episode mirroring gang culture and pressure that comes with it. One of the better episodes of S1 I thought, but stick with it, this show just matures into an incredible show in later series. We see Xander as a really nasty person once under the influence of the pack, turning on Willow with very hurtful remarks, once again showing how this can happen with peer pressure to maybe impress others. A pretty decent episode for S1. On small technical criticism of the title is Hyenas are usually referred to collectively as a Clan, not a Pack. Anyway great X-Files reference in this episode when Buffy says to Giles 'stop trying to Scully me'.
Part of the growing pains of all season one's is establishing who the characters are and moving their arcs while moving the larger season arc forward (this was when characterization mattered, and story was the most important thing, unlike now); I think that even though season one has the pains, it's doing it better then a lot of shows, after all you (like me and pretty much every Gen Xer out there) where and are still lovers of the series. So happy you're enjoying it. Hi from Manitoba, Canada.
I think In Ep Five. How I always interpreted her turning down Owen is this. Yes Willow and Xander know her secret, and they both help her but they're not seeking danger. They know How dangerous what Buffy does is and they are careful and cautious.. Owen is an adrenaline junkie. He liked being in danger he liked how alive it made him feel. He liked being with Buffy because of that Danger and Buffy knew he'd be unnecessarily putting himself at risk if he remained around her and one day that would probably end up getting him killed because he was not going to take the cautions that Willow and Xander do. So even though she liked him and was craving that normalness of just being a teenage girl in love She had to be the bigger person in this situation and make that hard choice to keep him safe. But that's just how I always took it.
I agree with those who say season 1 has highs & lows. Special effects in this season were at their low point. They do get betterin futureseasons. "If the apocalypse comes, beep me." Reminder this came out in early 1997. I think that was before Kim Possible & I remember distinctly that there were (at most) brick style cell phones & no texting at all. So yes, keepers were a thing. The clothes Buffy & Cordelia wear in this show tend to be fashion forward for that time. So some have clearly not aged well. Anyway, for those who weren't alive during this time, it surely does feel dated. (Try to set aside the clothes & music.) But the show does find it's feet in future seasons, so I encourage you to keep going with it. R.i.p. Principal Flutie.
In a response I made, I politely mentioned that Buffy premiered in the late 90's and wasn't on a major network. They did what they could with the budget they had. The effects improved, but the make up is outstanding, the show won a few Emmy's for "best make up".
9:41 Those "random off-brand songs" are often being played by real bands who got some exposure through the show. This one is the trip-hop band Velvet Chain.
I was sitting staring at my phone waiting for this. I have not yet watched, however, a side note, you may want to get someone like say the hubs to monitor the comments. There are a lot of people trying to be slick with spoilerish comments. And if you’re going to watch watch the whole thing. No skipping. There is always something fun to find in even the bad episodes. EDIT: I don’t know why I didn’t write this earlier shame on me, but thank you for the videos and the time and effort you are and will be putting in to this. Thank you!
Episode 5 is not the best but I always liked episode 6. Season 1 in general takes a bit to find its footing in some places but gets way better as the seasons go on.
33:20 Werewolf show up?, you say? just wait. ;-) Not the worst episodes, just a little cringe nad cheesy. ;-) Every student on high school imagines his principle be eaten by hyenas. 😀 Just hold on, the best episodes are just behind the corner.
I might be weird, but I really like the hyena episode. Love the message on bullying, and love the taste (pun intended) of the darker parts of the show. I prefer it to the praying mantis episode at least…
Season one was a mid season replacement and had a much lower budget than the other seasons. It totally gets better! Please keep going. I am having back surgery in a couple of weeks and am looking forward to watching while recovering 🤣
I've actually always loved the pack episode. It isn't an amazing episode, but I find it a lot of fun, and I like it more than a couple of the other episodes in season 1.
Fortunately Buffy was a mid-season replacement for another canceled show, so the first season is only half the usual length. The rush that put the show under is painfully obvious, but it improves vastly with the second season.
Like most shows every season has filler episodes but Buffy is definitely a show that gets better every season. So you're just scratching the surface of the Buffy goodness with season 1.
There are always different point of views. Personally I hated the season with that stupid giant military base under Sunnydale with these young drug altered young soldiers.
I like both of these episodes. Ep 5 is about Buffy realising the sacrifices of being the slayer and trying to balance the teenage girl vs the superhero. Ep 6 raises the stakes (pun intended) by killing the principal and involving Xander. Not in my top 75 episodes but probably not in the bottom 10. Season 1 is a bit hit and miss though 😊
"Not in my Top 75 episodes but probably not in the bottom 10." What a great description. The hero shot of the Pack isn't topped until Season 6, so that alone precludes it from any Worst Of lists in my book.
Season one really hasn't aged that well. Thankfully it's a very short season. Season 2, on the other hand, is where they finally figured out what they were doing, and it was pretty fucking great.

"Offbrand songs"? Those are real bands and real singers on that stage singing their real songs. Can't get more onbrand than that.
They also improve as the series progresses. Season 2 has some bangers (I owned the CD back in the day) and 'Full of Grace" by Sarah McLaughlin was used to perfection!!
Yeahhh, season 1 is definitely still figuring out the exact tone and style they’re going for, and it’s a little iffy at times! Please just stick with it and trust that once season 2 finds its footing, the show becomes fully FANTASTIC and just keeps getting better. ❤
The Blade trilogy isn't in the MCU. They're in their own universe, like X-Men (save for Deadpool 3) and Fantastic Four (of course, that's about to change with "The Fantastic Four: First Steps").
Yes these episodes had teenage angst. Joss Whedon first job was to attract a 14-29 year old audience. I was in this group and these episodes talked to us. We had boring stories about bullies. The lectures were endless and tuned them out. Yes The Pack is silly but we laughed and had some kick ass fights so we paid attention. The Don’t Kill Your Boyfriend episode changed my life. It was this episode that allowed me to discover and befriend the most scary creatures for any non jock 14 year old boy…. Teenage girls. I started a conversation that turned into friendships with girls. I still have 8 of them as friends and they helped me navigate the mystery of girls without too much trauma or damage. Thanks for the reactions.
Remember, these episodes are the building blocks to which later seasons are built upon. Laying the foundation with the quick and snappy dialogue, getting the scooby team together, and introducing her first major villain. I kind of like the hyena episode. Why the hate for Cordy? Fun fact at the end of the episodes when they were first broadcast, they would advertise the bands that appeared on the show.
Why the hate for Cordy? Because we just met her. Thankfully, she does get a lot of character development, to the point that you start not wishing her to be Hellmouth fodder.
Cordelia is pretty nasty the first few episodes and I think it's great that the show doesn't sugarcoat social bullying. It's part of the show's great humanism that it shows that even vapid, mean-spirited, shallow people like Cordelia are worth having empathy for. Of course, we get a gradual deepening and growth of her character in one of the show's many great arcs.
When we played dodgeball in school as kids we got pelted from all sides. One team was in a large circle around the other so you never knew where the balls were coming from.
Possibly the most impressive thing about Buffy that contributes to its lasting appeal is not the overall quality, which is pretty darn good, but its how it grows up slowly over the seasons. Season 1 is basically Scooby Doo, say five seasons in, its an intense challenging family drama winning awards. Going back to the start when you know the whole thing Id say it plays as a mix of quaint and simplistic.
Dodgeball day was the best, our gym teacher Mr. Bishop always divided the class into All-Stars and Bookworms, I played hockey and Mr. Bishop was an assistant coach for my team so got to be on the winning side every time. I had a best friend Charles who was always on the Bookworm team, we went to goalie camp together and he tried out for the hockey team but was cut Day 1, I never once hit him with a dodgeball.
11:13 "Girl, do you see the bars?" -- Barred windows often have a lock that can be opened from the inside in emergencies. Giles should be looking around for a key, probably next to a fire alarm.
Buffy turned down Owen because it was obvious to her that he was an adrenaline junkie. You need to stop with the Xander & Buffy thing. I believe she made it clear she isn't interested in him.
The "She is The Slayer" intro only plays when there isn't a "Previously on 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer'…" recap before the episode. They're not on the DVDs, but if you catch the show on TV (reruns are currently on FUSE [DirecTV channel 339]), you can see them there. Joss Whedon had needed to promise the network that the show wouldn't just be vampires, vampires, vampires every episode, because in the 1990s, no vampire show had ever been successful. So he gave us a witch in episode 3, but for the rest of season 1, they tried to make the non-vampire episodes new and exciting instead of "Witches, Werewolves, Zombies", the old familiar stuff.. So instead we get giant bugs and hyena possession. And yes, Xander and Kyle really did look like they were about to kiss. (Which, of course, in several fanfiction stories, they do. This fandom is not exactly short on the gay porn. [Lesbian comes later, but m/m stuff was there right from the start.] Not that I've read any of them, of course, *cough*)
Both seasons 1 and 2 have a couple of weak monster-of-the-week episodes. But the 2nd half of season 2 is utterly fantastic, and season 3 might be even better, with barely any weak episodes in it. Your patience will be rewarded!
"Why doesn't she just join the boxing club?" because girls didn't do that sort of thing back then, at least not until Buffy made it possible for girls to be kick-ass. 😊 pre Buffy, girls on TV were just decorative. Post Buffy, every show/ movie had to have a kick-ass heroine. . . . Apart from the muppets of course coz . . . Miss Piggy 😂
It's awesome that you're reacting to Buffy The Vampire Slayer!! But just for context, you also have to remember that this first season of Buffy was literally a last-second mid-season replacement on a small fledgling new TV network. So, the creators of this show didn't have much of a budget at all for special effects, since the show's creator, director, and the cast etc were virtually unknown. Being a last-second mid-season replacement, it was an unproven show. Many of the special effects and episodes in this first 13-episode season were basic and very cheap looking even by 1996 standards, and the location in this first season would also surprise you --- many of the cemetery scenes were actually shot on the grass just off the studio parking lot. That's how low of a budget they had for each episode in this first season. However, the writing, acting, and plot line were so clever and captivating, that the show became very popular. TV viewers looked past the cheap make-up and special effects and instead immersed themselves in great storytelling. This is one of those TV shows that elevates itself with each new season. So, without giving away any spoilers, after the end of the surprisingly successful low-budget season 1, the show was finally given a decent budget to work with in Season 2 and in the following seasons. Another important item of note is that the creator of this show, Joss Whedon, is the mastermind behind all the Marvel movies.
Whedon directed the first two Avengers movies. That's it. Hardly all of the Marvel movies. In fact, he complained about not getting to do what he wanted with the second Avengers movie.
@@kevingaynor1459 That's right. Usually, a TV show that's picked up for the fall season or the mid season gets thirteen episodes. Buffy was a mid season replacement for Savannah, an Aaron Spelling produced soap starring Blake Lively's older sister, Robin, that wasn't doing well on its second season. Interestingly, Constance M. Burge, the show's creator, went off to create the supernatural drama, Charmed, since Buffy was a hit. If the ratings are solid, nine more episodes are ordered for the fall season show. If not, it's cancelled. If the mid season show does well ratings wise, it'll get a full season by the fall of the same year.
@@kevingaynor1459 - Sorry...there was also the un-aired pilot episode with a few different actors, and no effects for the vampires being 'dusted'. I always count the un-aired pilot episode as the 1st of 13.
9:42 Casting went out in the local Hollywood area and booked unsigned bands into The Bronze. 10:03 Duality is one of the main themes of the series. Buffy is The Slayer and a "normal" teenage girl. Worst episodes? Close, but nope.
The two best vampire movies are both called "Nosferatu". The first is by German director F.W. Murnau, made in 1922. It is still one of the creepiest yet visually most beautiful horror films ever made. Then, in 1979, German director Werner Herzog remade the 1922 original, but he had the good fortune, and the bad, to know and work with genius actor Klaus Kinski. There is a great documentary about their years-long, five film partnership, called "My Best Fiend". Kinski was insane and possibly evil, but oh, did it make him a powerful performer. Watch both versions of "Nosferatu". Then there was a comedy starring John Malkovici as 1922's director F.W. Murnau, and Willem Dafoe as the actor who played the vampire. The twist is that he was a real vampire and that Murnau had made a secret deal with him: he can 'eat' the movie's technical workers and minor supporting actors, as long as he leaves alone and alive the beautiful female lead. Dafoe is brilliantly funny as the demon turned actor. This flick is called "Shadow of the Vampire", from the year 2000. One other terrific and creepy "Dracula" was seen in the 1977 PBS / BBC-made mini-series, "Count Dracula" with French romantic leading man, Louis Jourdan, as the vampire. The now outdated video-special effects were fresh and new and scary, at the time. This atmospheric production is excellent. Overall, the best and most original is the 1979 "Nosferatu", starring Kinski. Very disturbing and well-made. ---OronOfMontreal

I like both episodes but that's from the perspective of someone who's watched the whole show so there's a nostalgic view of watching all the characters as babies.
"He's such a little baby. I love him" *Ashley's eyes get wide in realization* I see you catching on to the show fast.
Omg "the body" episode was crazy good
@@Auntiehoney217 I saw a TH-camr do a reaction to a random Buffy episode, he had never seen the show before, and the episode he watched was The Body.
I don't know which episode it is but Cibbo Matto played The Bronze!
And, you can literally watch Whedon's writing progress and improve, which led to things like FIREFLY & AVENGERS.
Not to mention continuing on into graphic novels, of present and future slayers.
@@JF-tt6wy😂
The thing is the show's creator never had the responsibility of show running a TV series before, let alone working from PA to producer. So he's working by the seat despite working with seasoned producers.
You have to power through Season 1. There are a couple good episodes but they were trying to find their groove. They most certainly find it in season 2!
Slight qualification: the S1 finale is already clear evidence of the series awesomeness to come.
"Who do you think you are, Kim Possible?"
Nobody tell her, she'll get it eventually.
It's fun when a Buffy reactor says "they're doing the same as in tv series x", it shows how influential Buffy is.
Explain it to me then, cause I don't get it.
@maisiesummers42 Kim Possible was a crime-fighting cheerleader leading a double life -- a good 5 years after Buffy was doing the same thing. Plus Kim Possible has whitty dialogue like Buffy.
"why is buffy being so dramatic about owen when she has *guy she doesn't like* and *guy that's never around*?" girl im loving these reactions but what?? she isn't sad because there isn't a replacement. she didn't just want a guy, she wanted owen. she genuinely liked him. she's sad that she can't keep it going with him and she's sad that he straight up said he only liked her because she was getting him into dangerous situations. he was becoming an adrenaline junkie. she can't just "teach him to be safe" because the only reason he wanted to be a part of it was to get into trouble. his entire reason for sticking around would have been to NOT BE SAFE. willow and xander got into it because they wanted to help jesse, and now they do it because they want to help buffy. it's giles' job. they're all careful and they don't want to go pick a fight in a bar at 3 am just for kicks.
also, buffy shouldn't have to worry about "breaking xander's heart". not her problem. she doesn't owe him reciprocation just because he isn't weird about her being the slayer. especially not after the creepy shit he pulled in her bedroom and being an awful friend about owen
loved the reaction anyways and i hope this doesn't come across as angry but yeah those are my thoughts and i hope you see buffy a little differently now!
Pack apologist checking in!
I’ll raise your like and say I love The Pack 🤣
At the time cellphones were big and expensive so most people would get beepers.
Yeah. It's 1997. Cordy is the only one to be shown with a cellphone, because she's a rich girl. At this point, it's a pager or nothing for most people.
lol
I was a manger at a movie theater in the 90's and I was given a "work beeper". Shortly after I got a "work cell phone". That cell phone was the size of a small brick and just as chunky.
The fact that dolly parton had a hand in buffy the vampire tv series makes me love her so much more!
I didn't know that about dolly
@@Auntiehoney217 she produced the film so her production company is listed in the credits at the end of every episode.
17:10 so xander and willow are there to help buffy, owen or whatever his name is is a adrenaline junkie. He wouldnt be as cautious as them and hed be looking for trouble. Ashleigh, since you asked: I used to wear a pocket watch in high school. Yes, I was a contrarian Punk Rocker. It was the 80s. You had to be there.
My brother and friend also wore them, in the 98 er. They were really cool looking.
Everything old is new again. My kid has asked for a picket watch for their 16th birthday.
@@jenngray8769As a pocket watch owner, this makes me smile.
My husband wore one in high-school too, carried a zippo (and he doesn't smoke at all) and a Swiss army knife too. Army surplus jacket and boots too.
He graduated in 2007 I think.
I certainly hope you had Doc Martens to complete the look.😉
Lol. The beeper and the 'I'm cool and trying to be unique' pocketwatch were both very 90s things. Also, I believe all the bands that play at the Bronze were real bands at the time - a lot of indie artists/bands doing it for exposure but some bigger ones off and on as well.
Owen and Hyenas. Whew. What an episode collaboration, LOL! Just remember: if the apocalypse comes, BEEP ME!
HAHAHAH I won't be beepin' NO BODY
@@awkwardashleigh That sounds SO dirty when you say that.

I wore a pocket watch in high school because cell phones weren't a thing yet and I have always hated the feeling of something around my wrist.
I hate anything on my wrist.
When i go away and do all inclusive at a hotel, i ask them to put the wrist band on my ankle 😂
Stop getting arrested, then you wont have things around your wrist lol.
yeah pocket watches weren't super common but they weren't that uncommon in the 90s either.
"these random off-brand songs" hurt my feelings 😢
All episodes are subjective. Personally I dislike mantis teacher more than either of these.
Absolutely agree

Yeah, I rarely rewatch mantis teacher.
Yep agreed.
Season 1 has some very tough episodes. Trust us all, the series goes through the roof as you progess with improvement
I think the phrase you're looking for is trust the process because I think they were experimenting with what they could do or should do and base where to go with it on the ratings of certain episodes like oh that didn't go over well better not to that again
True facts. Season 2 really pops off !!!

@@JenniferMcMahonhawaii78why would you bring that up all the way back in Season One?!
Season 1 is Buffy's "growing pains" season. It hasn't found its footing yet. But trust me, by season two, the show really figures out what it wants to be
The Pack was my introduction to the Buffyverse! Love me some hyenas!
Season 1 was a mid-season replacement for a show that got canceled and was made on a shoestring budget. It gets infinitely better after this.
It was so small a budget that it was shot on 16 mm film stock because it was all they could afford. It's why the first season has that really grainy look to it.
Back when shows had like 20 episodes a season, it was not pretty sometimes. Writers just had to come up with something. I kinda miss it.
This is a 12 episode season. But it was a mid season replacement with little time or budget so they went for a monster of the week approach.
@@doyle8711 Buffy has monster-of-the-week episodes in every season. Toward the end of each season it focuses more on the big bad arc.
Final thought. If the Hyena episode gonna make you cry, GIRL, you in danger!!!
Right? lmao The real pain doesn't even start until Prophecy Girl.
Mhmm.....with her having such a tender heart, if she falls in love with season 2 like the rest of us fans did.....well...like you said: "...you in danger, girl."
"your gunna cry so much" or "your gunna laugh so much" are both spoilers.
Brood means look sulky or grumpy in a attractive way
It's funny about the songs, usually the bands playing at The Bronze were bands that were on the radio that the record labels were trying to push.
Yep. Colossal difference.
Xander and Willow take danger seriously.
Owen just finds danger fun.
That's a world of difference.
Episode 5 "Never Kill A Boy On The First Date" is one of the weakest but very important to the season story-arc wise.
"these random off brand songs", the BTVS album is excellent!

@@Masmiseim That was season 4 and I also agree that's the weakest season but there are great episodes in that season a lot of good Spike stuff.
"Not in my Top 75 episodes but probably not in the bottom 10."
What a great description.
Season 2 has some bangers (I owned the CD back in the day) and 'Full of Grace" by Sarah McLaughlin was used to perfection!!
too bad all those real songs really sucked.
To be fair, this early Cordelia is pure Mean Girl . . . She hit on Angel, huh.
Why the hate for Cordy? Because we just met her.
Thankfully, she does get a lot of character development, to the point that you start not wishing her to be Hellmouth fodder.
Why the hate for Cordelia? Because she’s a mean girl right now
Cordelia is pretty nasty the first few episodes and I think it's great that the show doesn't sugarcoat social bullying. It's part of the show's great humanism that it shows that even vapid, mean-spirited, shallow people like Cordelia are worth having empathy for. Of course, we get a gradual deepening and growth of her character in one of the show's many great arcs.
Guys, I have loved Cordy, and Charisma Carpenter from day one, also, Darla/Julie Benz, sometimes the bad girls are the most fun
No. 5 & 6 will each be part of the verse and will be felt in future episodes/seasons. There will be 2 -3 head scratches within 7 seasons...

Hang on till when Spike shows up.
Except for the last part (Kevin Feige is the true mastermind), you're right. JW's name is mud nowadays.
Season One only had 12 episodes not 13!
No, the worst episodes are the ones that took place in the UPN years.
Disagree.
9:42 Casting went out in the local Hollywood area and booked unsigned bands into The Bronze.
10:03 Duality is one of the main themes of the series. Buffy is The Slayer and a "normal" teenage girl.
Worst episodes? Close, but nope.
5 is probably my least favorite of the entire series. A lot of the other episodes people say are bad (like Bad Eggs, Go Fish, Beer Bad) I quite enjoy.
@@xyex I like bad eggs, the Gorch brothers are great and lots and lots of Bangel smoochies
