It was domesticated over 5,000 years ago and it was raised in farmhouses like chicken way before the arrival of the Europeans. Later it made its way to Europe in the 16th century where it was considered a pet. During the of the Incas cuy was not an every day food but rather reserved for special occasions. In the cathedral of Cusco there is even a painting of the last supper depicting a guinea pig as the main dish. The painting dates back to 1753. To put it into perspective, this is 23 years earlier than the American Revolution. At that time the Cusco School of Painting was well stablished. Thousands of tourists that visit Cusco every year decide to try this dish that might be hard to find in other parts of Peru, like in Lima. It would be nice if you can show the painting of the Last Supper depicting the cuy on the table. In Peru, Chinese restaurants are called "chifa" that comes from the Chinese word "chiufan" that means to cook rice. And for soy sauce, we use the Chinese word "Sillao".
Its totally diferent, Chaufa is the Version with peruvian ingredients, if you travel new york, there you can find Chaufa but people know chaufa from peruvian version

They started to combine ingredients as they did with every aspect of they culture. Here we don't usually see Chinese "formal" restaurants, they are called "Chifas" and is the result of that combination. That didn't happen with the Japanese community for example, we don't have a traditional combination of flavors with their food. Greetings 🙌

In addition to bingeing Netflix, have you spent any of your lock down time reading up on the history of Cusco? The reason I ask, I spent four days in Cusco, years ago, and while I enjoyed what I saw, it wasn't until I returned home and did some reading, that I realized all of the historical and cultural sites that had been within walking distance of where I stayed and that I had missed. Keep up the good work and stay safe!

I'd recommend as a first read, The Conquest of Peru, by William Prescott. This is available as a kindle/eread. The streets that you travel on to walk to the market will take on new meaning after reading this.

Today we found that Potato Head was acting up all this time. Little clumsy and lost; how far from the truth, it is very smart from him. So everybody knows him around Plaza de Armas, very friendly with tourists and well known by all the tour guides. I think I love him every day more and more 😍
Actually Inka Kola was created by the British immigrants in Peru. The taste has a fruity flavor of the Lemon Verbena an aromatic smell of grassy and sweet citronella.

Hi. Your videos are so interesting. We are in California, and there is so much drama going on here, many businesses considered non essentials remain close too. Chaufa rice, is just the Peruvian fried rice. Pollo a la brasa is Peruvian rotisserie chicken cooked with certain kinds of firewood that adds flavor to the marinated meat. You two should try other real Peruvian food like carapulcra, aji de gallina, estofado, seco, or tallarines verdes. These dishes are delicious, of course it depends on how, and who cooks them. Lindsey and Alex, your videos are informative and entertaining! Your description of Inca Kola is exactly the way I remember it. In addition to bingeing Netflix, have you spent any of your lock down time reading up on the history of Cusco? The reason I ask, I spent four days in Cusco, years ago, and while I enjoyed what I saw, it wasn't until I returned home and did some reading, that I realized all of the historical and cultural sites that had been within walking distance of where I stayed and that I had missed. Keep up the good work and stay safe!
Thank you! We have to do some more reading. I’ve had a list ready to go, and a list on Netflix and Amazon Prime of informational documentaries on Cusco and Peru. Going to get into all of it soon!
I'd recommend as a first read, The Conquest of Peru, by William Prescott. This is available as a kindle/eread. The streets that you travel on to walk to the market will take on new meaning after reading this.

Today we found that Potato Head was acting up all this time. Little clumsy and lost; how far from the truth, it is very smart from him.
So everybody knows him around Plaza de Armas, very friendly with tourists and well known by all the tour guides. I think I love him every day more and more 😍
He is well known by all of Cusco. Our special little spud.
Actually Inka Kola was created by the British immigrants in Peru. The taste has a fruity flavor of the Lemon Verbena an aromatic smell of grassy and sweet citronella.
I am very glad you guys tried some culinary peruvian experience and also buy some peruvian souveniers, they were awsome. The delivery service was very pro, hope you get to try other things. Cheers.

Hi. Your videos are so interesting. We are in California, and there is so much drama going on here, many businesses considered non essentials remain close too. Chaufa rice, is just the Peruvian fried rice. Pollo a la brasa is Peruvian rotisserie chicken cooked with certain kinds of firewood that adds flavor to the marinated meat. You two should try other real Peruvian food like carapulcra, aji de gallina, estofado, seco, or tallarines verdes. These dishes are delicious, of course it depends on how, and who cooks them.
