Of course! Zvezda did send me a replacement part so props to their customer service. There were just a few too many gaps and Illl fitting parts not to say something. Their airliner kits I've built have been excellent though.
The digital camo scheme on the Ukrainian flankers is beautiful. Here in Japan I bought a reference book on these Flankers. I have a Hasegawa Su-27 limited edition Ukrainian AF kit which comes with the digital camo decals. Yours turned out nice.
👍I started with gluing the cockpit windshield in place and masking it (youll need some minor modifications to any precut mask since the IRST will run straight up the windshield). Then I puttied and sanded the divot that the kit had for the side mounted IRST probe. Next I took the IRST part from the kit and sliced some plastic off so it mounted better in the middle as opposed to the side....i.e. it was more symmetrical. It wasnt perfect but I glued it in place in the center of the windscreen, then puttied/sanded around the edges to make it flush and hide the imperfections. Its a bit tedious and took a few rounds of putty/sanding to make it look natural. All of this was done during the priming step of painting and before i added any color. Finally, at the very end, the clear piece will need to be sliced across the bottom and painted a smoky color (see 9:37 in the video).
@ScaleModelAssassin Thank you, with your help I'll be better prepared for the job when the time comes. Trumpeter has an earlier Su-27 with IRST placed centrally, but it seems Zvezda's model is better so I'll stick with it.
You are correct and it was difficult to complete and film. Here is what I did: 1. Do not attach the front windscreen until step 4. You can use it for test fitting the parts that need modification. 2. Attach part D-13. Cut off the ridge and sand to be smooth and symmetrical with the opposite side. This took multiple attempts. 3. Cut and sand the bottom of D-14 so it is symmetrical and you can mount it in the center of the windscreen. This step also took multiple attempts. 4. Attach the windscreen and tape / mask the clear sections 5. Attach part D-14. I could not get a perfect fit so I used putty to fill the gaps. 6. Slice the bottom portion of part E-3 so it is flat and not rounded. Paint with Tamiya X-19 smoke It took me multiple tries of cutting, sanding, and puttying to get a smooth finish with both parts D-13 and D-14. Hopefully this helps you with your model. Good luck!
thank you for mentioning timings and some of the stages as this helps us new guys understand the flow. Great work!
You bet! Lmk if you have any other questions.
I know this wasn't an easy build, but man, the final result is awesome!! Nice work!
Many thanks!
Thanks for being honest with all the issues you encountered (and overcame). Great looking model.

It looks great. Good idea with the airbrushing through a thin sponge, will have to give that a try.

Agreed! Super cool looking
Really cool paint job.
Turned out looking amazing!
Thanks! 👍
Awesome work! Could you describe a bit how you moved the IRST to the middle?

Nice build!
There need to be grey paint rather than grey-olive on the digital camo, but anyway, good job!
Blame it on the lighting. Thanks!
nice work
Thank you! Cheers!
