Man this clinic is absolutely loaded with gems. I’m only 2/3rds the way through and already learned 4-5 new nuisances I haven’t heard discussed anywhere else.

@@themusicman4u46582 Not even close. I live in a huge county in NY state and there is not a disc golf course. You have to drive 40-60 min to reach one.
Paul explaining the disc following your back foot before breaking to throw was a huge aha moment. Very very well done video.
As an oldish woman taking up new hobbies, this clinic changed my game. I could never get my steps correct without feeling like I was about to crash and burn; so I would always throw my backhand from a standstill with all arm. After watching this and practicing for about an hour, my next round had my backhand drives flying 75 feet further (and straight) with practically no strain on my arm since the power was coming from my core. Bravo, and thanks, for explaining the basics succinctly.

I have been playing for almost 18 months, and have been trying to throw as hard as I can with very spotty results.
I have watched almost every form video on TH-cam.
This one finally gave me the aha moment I needed. I finally realized that spin is more important than momentum, at least for a beginner.
So I went out and just casually started throwing focusing on the whip action to make the disc spin faster, and voila! I am now throwing just as far with almost zero effort as when I was chunking it as hard as I could.
Once this is comfortable, I will try to add more momentum in my run up.

@@winegarstronghold2734 I have since gained about 30-40 feet consistently. I am still walking up slowly because every time I try to speed up my timing gets thrown off.
I got out today and tried it and was also throwing about further about 40-50 feet! After a bunch of hmgreat throws, I tried to REALLY rip some deep! And I threw about 50 feet shorter and FAAARR left lol
Are you talking forehand or backhand? Because from the videos I've watched, no one talks about putting spin on the backhand, so are they flicking their wrists at the end or does the "whip" of your throw naturally put enough spin on it?
@@apollo3340 For me just letting the whip action happen naturally (rather than forcing it) has naturally put more spin on the disc.
Never heard someone explain how baseball mechanics can mess up xstep timing. It's 100% what I've been doing. Total rounding. This was so helpful!

Paul, you might be the man. Your technical approach to both commentating and teaching resonates, for real. The commentating example that first comes to mind is when you mentioned backhand timing being shifted when approaching up hill. It's the little Easter eggs like that, that gets me pumped up. Lol
This video is gold. My local course has some really short tees, and I lost the connection between right hand left foot because if it. You guys helped me regain timing, with more power than ever. I just got back from the field, threw backhands further and more fluid then ever.

I learned from a basketball coach: if you can’t make a shot 10 times in a row in practice then you shouldn’t be taking that shot in a game. In disc golf it’s a bit different because you have to take the shot you’re given, but I’ve applied that to putting practice and it significantly improved my putting. I don’t practice a putt I can’t make 10 times in a row, and if I can’t make a putt 10 times in a row, I move closer.
This is an incredible instructional video, definitely going to hit the field and work on some of this stuff.

The “reach back” should be taught as more of a “leave behind”, because it’s almost like you’re upper body extension comes from leaving it behind as your hips and legs move forward.

I was throwing much better shots, but they kept going right, aka I was grip-locking. I have also been reaching WAY back on my throws. I found this video after I got home and it explains PERFECTLY why I've been throwing right! I can't WAIT to get out to the field tomorrow!!

Wow!! This was exactly what I needed to see. I’m new to disc golf but have played many sports in my life. I could see the experienced players throwing further than me with way less effort. I knew there was a disconnect somewhere in my form because I literally can’t imagine putting much more power or speed into a throw. Haha.
After watching this I learned I’m focusing on reaching back and all my power is coming from my arm alone.
Also I’m watching this with my 12yr old son who is a natural forehand thrower and is just now learning his backhand. Every commercial break he jumps up and practices the movements you guys are teaching. He really loves doing this and I’m so happy he has such generous people to look up to and learn from, from afar. I’m 43 and just started playing last year so I can’t teach him anything in this sport but work ethic haha
Wish someone had taught me this when I started. Playing 12 yrs and still suck but you MUST HAVE THE FUNDAMENTALS
I have been practicing Brian’s advice about the different forehand release points for discs with different speeds and stability. It has made a huge difference much less wobble now on under-stable discs when released closer to my side rather than farther out it front for a more over-stable disc. I’ve watched a ton of forehand videos nobody has ever said you needed to do this before.

This is so nice to have. I started disc golfing a year ago. Pitcher and Qb my whole life always had crazy arm power. For the life of me I could only forehand for the better part of the first season I played, but having videos like this helped me learn so much more about the game and how do to certain things. I used to be so self conscious on the course because I really only had one shot and didn’t understand anything else, but these videos helped me to be more confident and learn so many new lines. Thank you, for helping get me to where I have progressed to today.

For people - coaches and students - who can and like to break a throw down into physical fundamentals, this is excellent. I'm coming over from another sport where I am a coach (and was a participant at the professional level) who likes to use video as a training tool to slow things down and illustrate what is going well and where there is room for improvement. As a wrapper-still-on new disc golf player, I can film myself, break everything down, and compare against the concepts introduced here. Thanks so much for illustrating both the proper techniques as well as the pitfalls.

I'm a bowler. The part where they demonstrate the footwork (like when he talks about not "rounding") reminds me a lot of proper bowling footwork and arm swing. The ball shouldn't go around you while in the approach, rather the bowler shoul go around the path of the ball, making the pendulum as straight as possible. Good explanation of the mechanics guys! Enjoyed it very much!

I learned how to throw forehand first and my footwork and everything really has been horrible on my front hand so I'm so glad I could see this.
whoa.. so i just went and shot at my usual course. last time i played a few days ago i shot a +1(one of my better scores). Today i threw about 20 practice drives in a field using this method. Im sure im missing my power pocket and what not still. but my accuracy and control increased greatly. distance was about the same maybe 10-20ft further than usual. I managed to finish -4 out there today with a decent wind kickin around. Thank you so much for this video. Cant wait to better develop my backhand form :)

I'm old schoool (21580) and I've been throwing this technique for 20 years. It always felt better, and the guy who got me playing always said I looked weird and he didn't know how I threw so far. He's like 8k something. True old school.

This changed my game in the first 10-minutes of watching. Having played disc golf on and off for almost 20-years my mechanics have always felt a tad off. The furthest dive been able to drive maxes out around 340-370’…Well I can thank my Baseball coaches for that. Now it’s time to hit the elusive 400’ drives.
When you said keep the disc in dame spot and your just moving your body. I went and tried that tonight and omg the results were amazing. I was throwing more consistent and getting good distance. I've only been at it for about three months. And this was the best tips I've heard since people tell me to get one of disc down..I was not getting the disc super high in the air and the disc stalling out and dive bombing left..lol.. putting those 2 things together makes such a big difference. Hope to keep learning more from you guys. I'm in my 40s not a young whipper snapper..lol. so hope by next season I can throw close to 300ft. Thanks guys.

Ok this is an awesome clinic. I've been doing pretty much everything wrong that they point out in the whole video! But I'll need to watch this many times because its hard for me to understand the corrections even when they explain them extensively. Prolly because I've been doing it wrong too long. This video is a great resource.
I have messed up knees but want to enjoy this sport. I am also in my 60's, is there a way to throw and get a decent distance?

This video was so incredibly helpful to me. I just returned to disc golf after a 20 year hiatus. Let's just say things are different. I've been trying the reach back pull through throw and it wasn't clicking. This made it click. I added 50 feet minimum to my throw after watching this. Using the hips and shoulders to whip the arm. Genius. It has nothing to do with the arm!

Great Video! Probably the best I've seen honestly. Gonna have my wife holding my disc while I work on my form to prevent the bad habits I developed form watching other videos (reach back). Never seen it taught like Uli did having Brian hold the disc and showing how your body should move around the disc. Also, so much great info on sidearm as well! Saving this video as I'm sure I'm gonna use it many more times in the future for reference! Greatly appreciated!

Great way to wake up on a Sunday! We have tons of pro players in Colorado but are lacking in instruction. Thank you. I love the discussion about walking around your disc on throw. Chris Dickerson epitomizes this.
The step sequence taught here make it so simple to find a good rhythm. As a brand new beginner I really want to get the fundamentals correct from the beginning so I don't injure myself. They take all the stress away from thinking about toe weight and disc angle and stuff that they talk about at the club and focus on the basic movement instead. From just watching and trying it I can finally throw a driver farther than the midrange or putter. To get more power it just seems I have to continue practice and gradually the speed will increase as I move my body faster. Feels so great to have a single movement for all types of length shots. It literally has nothing to do with muscular effort.
The biggest tip for backhand accuracy and power is minding where your plant foot is. I noticed that some of my most powerful throws in the past came from putting my plant foot in line with my back foot, which resulted in grip lock, like Brian said. However, the form for a good shot was there, just in the wrong direction, and those were some of the most crisp and powerful shots I had ever thrown. Once you learn to harness that power but in the right direction by planting your foot correctly, your game really goes up to another level.

It's crazy to see how bad my form was. I've been using these methods to do field work for about 3 weeks and 3 days and i now can reach 320+ft easier and I'm way smoother and like uli said 200ft and in its so much easy to land within 25ft and my accuracy has went way up! Highly recommend using this video to help!! 100000%

Both great communicators. I've played a lot of ultimate and freestyle frisbee just getting into disc golf with the pandemic. For me the trickiest bit has been putting and getting big distance on sidearms. It's hard to digest all these disparate form breakdowns but this one felt relatable. Slowing down with a focus on release points makes a lot of sense.
