    The directions are simplistic and the ease of installation is awesome. I've installed other storm doors where
    you've needed an interpreter to figure out the directions. Being in the building industry for 25 years and
    have worked for various lumber yards and suppliers, this is the best security door bar none! Just installed
    ours and absolutely love it. The only con if I could come up with would be the white plastic guide brackets
    that are attached to the strike side Z-bar. There should be 2 pre-drilled holes and was only one per bracket
    which made the directions just a tad confusing. Just needed to pilot drill my own when I reversed the hinging.
    For $220 bucks at Home Depot, this door is heavy and solid plus it's very well constructed overall. Even the
    half screen which came with it was heavy!

      If I kindly may say that the door closure Grisham supplies is not meant for these doors. Mine was not working where the door would properly close at a slow steady speed. I work on storm doors quite often, so I replaced it with another one that works much more effectively. All in all, it doesn't change my opinion of how well the door is!

    I've installed two of these doors (front and back) and found it very easy to do. However, when installing the expander at bottom of the door, I used IRWIN QUICK-GRIP Clamps to keep the expander from moving while drilling the holes. That worked great for me. Note: You have to remove the glass, which I did anyway to make the door easier to grip and handle.

    7:15 messed me up. I installed the closer while the door was open. So of course the door couldn't be closed and I now have two extra holes on the strip closest to the bracket. Then at 7:33 I realize the door is now closed. Is that strip available as a spare part? For now I just covered them up with JB Weld and some paint. Other than that little hiccup, this video helped me do something I've never done before.

    • @grishambros7662

      The mullion strip is replaceable . I have supplied the part numbers Black - BLACKMULL White - WHITEMULL You would need to visit your local Home Depot to special order the part. Another option is to simply cap off the added screw holes with two additional #10 x 1/2" or 3/4" Phillips head screws. Hope this helps.

    • @grishambros7662
      @grishambros7662  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      In a few cases the entry door locks might come in contact with the security doors lockbox which is factory positioned to avoid contact with the entry door lock. In this case the entry door bore holes may have been bored out by the owner of the home and not positioned at the standard conventional factory pre-drilled locations.
      Using the European style handles help in clearance issues. Hope this helps. Thank You, Grisham Bros.

      Thank you yes that answers my question that your bore location takes into consideration the existing door in my case on my house. I am installing this 501 door. They are standard factory bores. I was just curious when I saw the deadbolt being installed on the bottom I would like to do a picture handle and was concerned with the knob colliding but if they are offset, I think I will be fine thank you

    My Grisham security will not open and its stuck and I didn't even have it locked. Does anyone have any suggestions. Their customer service is non existence. Hold for a long period of time then off to voicemail were no one returns your calls. I've only had my screen door a couple of years and it was installed by home depot. Any suggestion as to how to get this door open. It's a safety risk. Thanks so much? I pray I will not have to purchase a door thats been gently used.

  • @markbarnett1041
    @markbarnett1041 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The safety glass that you use, is it only at the top and a bug screen at the bottom? Or is it 100% glass from top to bottom? Is the 467 series 100% glass or does it have a screen mesh at the bottom? If I want to use a key on the dead-bolt on the inside of the door, how do I do that? Do I have to use a locksmith to make that change or do you offer a different part?

    • @grishambros7662
      @grishambros7662  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mark,The door is has tempered safety glass in both upper and lower panels. The supplied ventilation screen is interchangeable for top or bottom installation. The door accepts most 2-3/8" backset locksets. Can be double keyed or thumb-turn for easy exit. If you have concerns about someone tampering with the thumb-turn, then we have an accessory product called the door cuff. I have supplied a link to that video th-cam.com/video/0xrmspJcvDM/w-d-xo.html please let me know if you have any additional questions. Thank You....

      When I order a 467 series door from Home Depot, what else will I need to purchase that does not come standard with the door? A door knob and dead-bolt lock? And what else will I need?

    • @grishambros7662
      @grishambros7662  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Only the lock. Most locks with a 2-3/8" backset will work perfectly. We also include brass machine threaded screws to secure the striker and deadbolt to the doors lockbox. Traditional locksets include wood screws that will not work in this application.

      @@grishambros7662 Okay, but do you really think those tiny screws are effective against a crowbar attack? You can't be serious... And those locks can be defeated easily - either using destructive or non-destructive methods. No offense but America has to improve a lot when it comes to security.

    • @grishambros7662
      @grishambros7662  2 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @gergogonzalen9729
      @gergogonzalen9729 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@grishambros7662 Those screws are tiny which means the jamb isn't fitted strongly enough to the wall - it's easy to force it out of its place with a crowbar so it doesn't matter that it has some concealed screws... In my country, insurance companies require the installer to use at least 3.93" screws in case of concrete walls, and at least 5.9" screws in case of brick walls. And the installer must weld or destroy the edges of every screw head so that they can only be removed by force (e.g. with an angle grinder or drill but not with a simple screwdriver). The point is: in my opinion, this so called security door isn't that secure after all (ofc it's better than nothing but it could be much better). No offense, though.

      @@gergogonzalen9729 While I agree with you on your points, this door is more for the quick smash and grab burglar. Won't stop a more professional one. However it will still buy time. For me personally my doors are already hardened against breaking in. Not impenetrable, but definitely harder to get in. Im thinking of getting this for my back door as just another layer of protection.

    Is the door longer is that's why you cut 1/8 at the bottom? Is this mandatory to do this process

    • @grishambros7662
      @grishambros7662  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, the door z-bar frame is longer than the door to accomodate an opening height up to 80-3/4" high. So if your opening is 80-1/2 high, then you would cut the z-bar to 80-3/8" long. The process involves cutting the z-bar 1/8" less than your overall height size. Hope this helps and thanks for your question.

Remove the glass panel and position the screen in its place and secure with the glass clips. I’m using the “ask for installation references at HD method.” I have double front doors; one is a dummy door unless you go through the time to unlock it from the floor and ceiling which is going to require new hardware because those slots, just like the ones on French doors, can be popped with a flat piece of metal in about 10 seconds and both your doors will swing open silently (seriously folks, if you didn’t know this, check it out. It will have you drilling screws before the video is over to protect your family for the night. th-cam.com/video/usm9k8Jyfgs/w-d-xo.html Currently I have a long 2x4 mounted across the inside of the doors because they open inward and only about 1/3 of the deadbolt will fit into the corresponding hole. We just moved in a few weeks ago and are still surprised the former sellers weren’t attacked in their sleep. My 3 yr old niece could push the door in. We also have these Defender flip locks th-cam.com/video/VTvm_XKeAZM/w-d-xo.html at 3 locations on the doors and would have the Nightlock Door Barricade th-cam.com/video/OYBngOjzOwI/w-d-xo.html floor slider ones (easily the best on the market) if the entryway wasn’t marble. Sorry this is a bit long, but I figure people wouldn’t be on a How to Install a Security Door video unless they were concerned with security. Best of luck in whatever you choose.
