      Correct. In the USA it is also a CH-46 Sea Knight. Not a CH-47 Chinook. Easily mistaken for one another.
      CH-46 has 3 landing gear. And short 'tubes' along the hull
      CH-47 has 4 landing gear. And long 'tubes' along the hull.

    • @josh10177
      @josh10177 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The term is "Tandem Rotor" and the torque is getting countered, the rear rotor is essentially a tail rotor, but it's made as large as the front for heavy cargo lifting and speed under load.. All while using a smaller airframe, a helicopter with a standard rotor system needs to be much larger to equal the lift capacity of a tandem rotor. IE the CH-53

      Mick T There’s a very clear difference. Firstly there is size, the Chinook is larger. Secondly the wheel arrangement, the Chinook has four wheels. Finally, the Sea Knight has fuel tanks only in the rear near the rear landing gear, whereas the Chinook has fuel tanks going along most of the FUSA Lage.

  • @esciflightsimpublications6050

    Yes a Sea Knight, not a Chinook. As a former Navy guy I’ve had several rides in a Sea Knight. My son, an Army Captain in the 101st Div, has had many rides in a Chinook. I proudly asked if he had ever flown in a Sea Knight. He answered, “You mean a Baby Chinook?…yeah, a couple of times.”

We used them in Sweden for maritime surveillance and SAR, sub hunting (the Navy had their own, slightly different than the Air Force model), troop transport, mountain rescue, medevac, special forces deployment (you could get a rubber dinghy and a bunch of troops in and out of the rear cargo door by dipping it in the sea while hovering), forest fire fighting, heavy sling load transport and in many other roles.

    I need to add this I just finished the whole video, I have had some big Gonads in my life but if I were sitting in the co-pilot seat in that bird I would be "S"ing in my drawers lol crazy video and I love it...... Just like the RedBull BO105 pilot with the blond hair and Mustache, after flying with him I would definitely need a change of drawers. Why you may say? Nah not chicken, I just grew up and flew by the book. So I never really did anything remotely to this video

    I’ve had a few, even active duty soldiers, look at me sideways when I share this story. True story. In the mid 90’s we were conducting ops in South America. We were second in a flight a three CH-47’s. Not sure what happened, I can only think of a thermal updraft, but we pitched up and over to the right and ended up being upside down briefly. The Load Master, who was tethered, was being a typical Load Master…those who know what I mean, know what I mean. Anyway, when we pitched up and to the right he spread Eagle on the ramp. Most of us were laughing. When we stabilized her strapped in where we we sitting. Good times.
