I was always impressed they way that brought the supplies to the flight deck of the USS Saratoga when I served on her
I’ve never seen a helicopter just lay in the ocean like that . They were always hovering above it .

Due to its design the V-22 Osprey is classed by the USAF and its other users as a Helicopter and the fastest helicopter.
As i said i dont agree and think its just a plane with big props officially thats not the case it seems.

I was stationed at Ft. Campbell and in the unit out past the airfield. It came time to re-up and I gave another four years while airborne (yeah I was that too) in an MH-47D. Those helos are like a deuce and a half…they will get you there!

When exercises are done by NATO, I see the Chinook's, from our port to their destinations, they fly all the day going back and forth. Also, when they send in troops, they are getting picked up and transported, because we don't have these, I look at them with an aaah. They have that distincter sound.

One things for sure....the hoist is ALOT higher than the claimed 15-20ft mark lmao
I was fortunate to have been flown on both the Black Hawk (over a dozen times) and a Chinook choper (a couple of times). Both quite sturdy and reliable. This was back at Fort Campbell in the middle 90s.

The CH-47 must have four engines (two forward and two rear).
And not two, like now.
To double the weight load to be transported.
That's not that easy. The engines and supportive structure add their own weight. Not to mention the needed space.

The armor weighs it down to protect the transported soldiers.
And that's not good.
Adding two engines would make it faster.
And maybe carry heavy loads
traveling alone and not in two as now.

In American service the Ch-47 Chinook is used by the U.S. Army not navy or marines.
The Marines have their own version. MH-47. It's just a modified version
@@spcgardner no, the mh,ch-47 has never been operated by the U.S. Marines! Only in service with U.S. Army and Special Operations forces. USMC operates CH-53's. The USAF USED TO operate the versions of ch-53 for CSAR.
