  • My name is Yoyoka, I'm a 11 year old drummer from Japan.
    Led Zeppelin changed my life🔥
    For me, Bonzo's groove is the most natural and comfortable🥁
    ‪I feel so much better when I play this song❣️
    ‬This song is one of my favorite songs❣️

    🥁Drummer Yoyoka’s Profile🥁
    Born in October 2009, she started playing drums at the age of two, played live at four, and formed her family band "Kaneaiyoyoka" at five. At 6 years old, she even released her first CD while in kindergarten.
    In addition to drums, Yoyoka sings vocals, plays the piano and is a songwriter. In 2018, at the age of 8, she became the youngest weekly champion in the under-18 category of the international female drummer contest "Hit Like A Girl".
    Her application video, a cover of Led Zeppelin's "Good Times Bad Times" was featured on NBC, NPR, in Rolling Stone Magazine and in Billboard and then spread all over the world.
    Her drumming prowess has been praised by music legends such as Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin), Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers), Sheryl Crow, Gene Simmons and Eric Singer (KISS), Kim Gordon (Sonic Youth), Hayley Williams (Paramore), Sass Jordan, Tony Royster Jr., Brad Wilk (Rage Against the Machine) , Derrick McKenzie (Jamiroquai).
    At the age of eight, Yoyoka appeared in Japan's famous rock festival "RISING SUN ROCK FESTIVAL in EZO" as the youngest performer ever and made a surprise appearance on the stage of Fall Out Boy in "Summer Sonic Tokyo" in front of an audience of 20,000. Later, she was the guest drummer for two songs of Cyndi Lauper’s performance at Tokyo Orchard Hall, the last day of her Japan tour.
    Yoyoka is endorsed by world-class brands such as Nike, Moncler, and UNIQLO, filming well-received commercials in Thailand and New York. At the age of eight, she became the youngest drummer ever to sign an endorsement contract with drum makers Pearl and VIC FIRTH, and has since then also signed with Zildjian, CYMPAD and DW.
    She made two appearances on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in LA in January and May 2019 where she was praised by Dave Grohl from the Foo Fighters, and later on had a successful live house at the legendary "Whisky A Go Go".
    In April 2019, she was selected as one of Newsweek Japan’s "100 Japanese people respected by the world", the youngest in history.
    Pearl showcased her talent the 2020 NAMM show in Anaheim the world’s largest musical instruments trade show. She was the youngest female and only Japanese drummer to appear.
    The impact of "Yoyoka" continues to spread worldwide. Her favorite drummers are John Henry Bonham, Chris Coleman, Nate Smith, Chad Smith and David Grohl. Her dream is to travel and play sessions with people all over the world. She is also hoping to preform in the upcoming Tokyo Olympics.

  • @leggomyeigonosensei
    @leggomyeigonosensei 3 ปีที่แล้ว +239

    There's something that needs to be pointed out. And this is probably pretty obvious to many but it gets lost in the sheer awe of her musical talent. And that is that Yoyoka is exTREMEly intelligent. She is brilliant. To be that good at anything at such a young age and to be able to hear the intricacies of these 40 year old recordings and when she is unable to hear them precisely, she is able to catapult herself into the minds of those drummers and instinctually construct the missing pieces from the circumstantial rhythms surrounding those gaps....the 'prodigy' label does not do justice. In a recent interview, they asked her who her biggest influences are and she gave the perfect answer when she said, "I don't think I am influenced by anyone." And that's exactly right. She has a lot of respect and admiration for great drummers, such as Bonham and Peart, but she is her own true teacher. She's a special once in a lifetime genius with a rare ear driven by her furious passion to become one with the music. That is her paradise. For a brief moment, when she's holding those sticks, in her mind she is the drummer in those great bands and she forgets about everything else (Shido).

    • @Mulavi
      @Mulavi 3 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      During that interview I was expecting her to respond that she was influenced by at least one of the drummers who she had stated in the past were her favorites - but she didn't. I think your comment is spot on. I remember her unboxing a piece of equipment during a drum course video and she commented on the sound that the styrofoam made when she placed one piece on top of the other. She is wired for sound.

    Goosebumps from the first hits and chills all along. This is not simply a gifted student copying a master: she made Bonzo's playing her own here, every roll, every ghost note, every cymbal nuance is her. She totally understand and love Bonham's playing. It's uplifting.

      Yes! Exactly. I don't want to deprecate other drummers who attempt this, but you either get it or you don't. Most don't, and this is the best I've ever heard. She can actually do this properly, with all the drags and pulls. I've never heard anyone do this as well besides Bonham himself. She gets really, really close to the right stuff here. It's scary how good she is. She's a natural, like Bonham was.
      Hell, she might not even be aware herself of this. Bonham himself wasn't.

    UPされてから50回位聴いたでしょうか、PCでの再生からリビングのTVの再生に切り替えて気が付いたことですがそれなりの音響システムにしてあるので音の定位と音の再現性がPCでは気が付かなかった録音技術に驚きました。60インチ幅のTVのほぼ全体に広がったドラムシステムの各太鼓とシンバルの打音がその位置で確実に捉えられている、バック音源の楽器の音も左右2か所の位置がはっきりしている、ロバートプラントの声がよよかさんのほぼ頭の位置から出ている、当然打音の再現性は限りなく原音に近いものが表現されているようです。よよかさんの演奏が実力通り視聴者の感動が得られているのはお父さんの協力が大きく寄与されていることを思い知りました。

    The greatest song in rock played by one of the best drummers that we’ve seen.
    I was an apprentice at HMS Caledonia when Led Zeppelin announced it would play live at Knebworth for a final concert. It would be broadcast on BBC Radio 2. I couldn’t go because I was due to be in the Highlands for practical leadership training (PLTs) so popped out to Dunfermline to buy a radio. Out in the Highlands of course, there was no signal. Just midges and rain.
    Luckily, the concert was such a success that Led Zeppelin decided to play again 2 weeks later. But again on a Saturday when I would this time be required at ceremonial divisions (parade) - we used to do 6 day weeks in those days. Aye lad - them were the days. So, as a well known Led Zep fan, I submitted a formal request to my divisional officer to attend the concert. The request was approved. Meanwhile another apprentice in a different division submitted a formal written request to attend his sister’s wedding. Unluckily for him everyone knew his sister was not getting married and he wanted to see the same concert as me. His request was declined. There’s a moral somewhere in that dit.
    Meanwhile, this video is awesome.

    Some people in comments have an impression that Yoyoka loses the time feel of the song in that fast slick passage (3:30 to 4:50).
    In fact she keeps perfect time.
    If you haven't played drums and you focus visually on her right foot, you may get that false impression of the tempo being off.
    Try this: Close your eyes and focus your listening on how the quick kick/snare pattern intertwines with the notes played on the guitar.
    You will soon realise Yoyoka's time is *perfect*. It also *incredibly* hard to re-create that same magic Jim and John created.
    Pretty sure we've all realised by now that Yoyoka IS incredible! How lucky are we??
    PS - be sure to open your eyes again for those crossover tom rolls!! (The sight and sound of those gives me goosebumps every time..)

Age doesn't matter, just pure love for the music. What a joy and privelege to be able to see this teenager shine like Bonzo would have liked. It is time that the original members show some appreciation or better use their qualities to collaborate with her like Dave Grohl does with her British counterpart. It would make the world a better place in this testing times. So Jimmy, Robert and John Paul get of your lazy bums and give this gold medal winner what she deserves; a challenge!
