This is the anthem for survivor's guilt. I can't tell you how many times I have asked those same questions to myself when thinking of the guys we left behind.
am I blind? know I'm very tired and I'm new here... but do you seriously never list the singer? Just post the video never mentioning the artist or the performance? or am i blind?
I’ve been privileged to see this show from first night at The Palace in 1985 to first night in New York at the Broadway theatre in March 1987. My daughter was 5 and was always with me. She’s 43 now! We have probably seen it 30 times and it always seems fresh. The very best cast was, in my opinion, led by Colm Wilkinson and included Roger Allam and Patti Lupone. Sue Jane Tanner and Alun Armstrong were the fabulous Thenardiers and Michael Ball was a lot slimmer then! We used to sit in the restricted view seats in row B, there was nothing restricted about them but they nearly always kept an empty seat in the front row which we moved to! Kate would sit on my lap and she became the orchestra mascot! It’s hard to believe it’s almost 40 years ago. Lovely memories.
Emotional performance, exactly how it should be! This song is a culminant point of the musical, and deserves more attention. The life of the character Marius changes fundamentally..
Although others who've covered this song may technically have superior voices, it's Eddie Redmayne's rendition that ALWAYS leaves me in tears. The sweetness, honesty, and gut-wrenching regret are palpable.😢
I'm planning to audition empty chairs at empty tables into a college showcase for my final year and Rob Houchen has always been an inspiration to how I sing the song! I hope get it in the show

It's also the anthem for survivors guilt for those who battle cancer and watch their chemo companions chair remain empty....
Rob Houchen will be the all time greatest Marius in my book
I had no idea what I was missing until tonight ❤
ROB HOUCHEN….LOVE HIS VOICE SO MUCH…EVERYTHING HE DOES!!!!!

Fantastic musical and my favorite song !
Eddie who?
Beautiful song so moving.
Good song but i wish it had been done by a better performer
there's still a dream cast recording which is truly a dream cast because you cant beat it
@@gman4988 Can beat this easily The original Marius was much better
He’s scary
Very bad. Overplaying. No voice at all comparing to original Marius.
