Many thanks for making this positive video‼️👍🏼😎 I have been going to the folk conferences for many years mostly on the West Coast then that ended and then Somerset started. I’ve been to all of them except this summer 2024 I was unable to go. I’m surprised that I did not see you there although I only go on Fridays and spend almost all my time in the exhibit hall, trying many of the instruments, talking to the makers, buying music, accessories and doing lots of shop talk. When the events were on the West Coast I was a part of the concert series and even gave workshops, as well as sold my music and cassette tapes. I do plan to go back in 2025 and hope to see you there‼️🙏😎
Thank you very much. About 3 maybe 4 years ago I witnessed one of the most beautiful arrangements by a local composer in Redlands California at the REDLANDS BOWL and of the other 70 plus instruments on the stage the harp stood out the most. Brought tears to my eyes for my ears to hear so many instruments yet the harp topped the sound of the composition with a heavenly pluck and strum here and there. And I just wanna say you are not weird ... You are awesome .
I actually got misty-eyed watching this video. I thought "Wow! This would be such a fantastic experience!" Thank you for sharing...and yes, I would love to see more!
Hi Christy Lyn, I've been watching your videos for a short while and just love the way you teach and your enthusiasm for helping others to learn this beautiful instrument. You are the greatest and please always keep doing what you do here. It means the world to me and lots of others. Much love from Sheila H in Minnesota.
dear Christy, you are so kind, loving what you are doing and explaining so good, believe your energy is passing through the laptop to me and all I think. Thank you so much
I love how the first two options you mention for easy harp moving are harp wheels, or harp husbands! Also, I definitely identify with the "These are my people!" feeling about large groups of harpists.
I re-watched this exciting video. Can't thank Christy-Lyn enoug for doing it. Somerset is still exciting and one thing to update you all on: now you don't have to struggle with your schedule and worry about missing a workshop you really want to take because there's another exciting one at the same. All workhops are now recorded for later replay and your subscription means you can take all those workshops you couldn't attend 'live'--the All-Access ticket gives you until Oct. 31! The online component, introduced during the pandemic, is a key new feature of the festival.
That looks like such a lot of fun. I don't think there's anything like that near me, though, and I can't see myself flying to the other side of the world for something like that. Thank you for the vicarious enjoyment.
There's nothing quite like the experience of "finding your tribe". Almost every field of human endeavor has an analogous event whether it's called a "seminar", a "festival" or something else entirely, it can be quite literally life changing to attend. I've never unsubscribed, though rarely watch your videos since your focus turned mainly to the harp, but I'm glad I watched this one. You're always "lit up" with enthusiasm, being just that sort of person, but rarely quite this brightly. :)
Thank u for providing this valuable resource to the public! My father and I will get our very first harps next week and we are trying to collect as much information for first time self learners as possible.
Thanks for sharing; it brought back memories of the time I attended. It's such a magical experience! I totally get it about not having other "crazy", harp-obsessed friends in your hometown! I would love to see more videos from Somerset!
Christy, what a beautiful Video. Tears well in my eyes. I`m now a member by learning the harp and it is so much joy and helps me to become a better human and of course a better harper. Please carry on. Olaf from Germany
Olaf, this is such a beautiful thing to say! I’m so glad you’ve joined us, it’s a privilege to have you a part of our community and to be able to help your learning. Sending lots of love!
I’ve been debating about learning the harp. Your videos are giving me the courage to start. Thank you. You make the world smile - watching how much joy and passion you have for the harp resonates in your videos. I find myself smiling - thank you for spreading joy and music.
I’d love to see any and all videos about the festival! Please keep them coming, and if there’s anything focusing on the late bloomers learning, I would find that especially interesting! Thanks for your hard work and dedication, it’s greatly appreciated!
Thanks to you and your sister, Megan, and your brother-in-law for an amazing video experience of the Somerset Harp Festival! I am blessed to live only an hour away, and was so happy to meet you there. I am already registered to go again this year, if the Corona Virus doesn't dash those plans! This video brought the experience back to life for me and made me so excited to go again. I couldn't believe when I saw that you found harp earrings there. I have been looking everywhere for harp earrings for several years, and no one seems to have them. They look lovely on you! Thank you for this video and for all the beautiful music and lessons you share with us!!
It has just been a couple of weeks since I started watching harp videos. I am learning to play the Ukulele, Guitar, mandolin, and banjo. Since i am retired, I can spend time on watching more and more music videos on the internet. I am so, so, interested in all the videos I have seen, both those on harps and those on other instruments.
That poor lady who wanted to learn piano. I returned to piano music after a break of 40 years. My teacher is amazing. He takes on adult beginners. I went back as a Grade 5 and I'm now practicing for my Grade 7. My teacher has given me so much confidence and really has inspired me to come out of my "safe zone". I also teach myself now and much prefer adult beginners. The adult beginners really want to learn and many have time on their hands as children have grown up and left home or they are retired. Of course, with Covid-19 just now lessons in person are suspended but we're continuing lessons via Skype. Ah! The wonders of technology which work really well. We're on lockdown in the UK so I got my 22 string harp out and have started learning that again. Turning the negative into the positive. Stay well everyone.
Great video! I have had workshops with several of the presenters shown here, in smaller venues, and can attest to the fact that they are amazing people as well as amazing harpists! Somerset has always seemed like a "too big" experience, but I am now seriously considering going! Thank you for your energy, generosity, inspiration and knowledge! My students are also in love with you!! Love, Love, love!!!
Thank you for sharing this with all of us. We can all use a little more harp! The intersection of simple slow tunes and potential therapy relaxation effects for health is an area of interest. All the Best! Jim
Thank you so much Christy-Lyn for doing this video and showing us what the festival is like! Well done. So informative. I hope someday to attend it. Keep up the great work you do on youtube. Love it.
Heyo. You are Lovely! I play the bassguitar, piano, flute (not often anymore), and somehow, don't remember why, thinking about playing the harp.. though it's the space I got to consider.. Your enthusiasm is contagious though. So, who knows... some day.. 😉💖💖💖
Thanks, Christy-Lyn et al for all of your hard work in bringing these videos to us. So inspirational and motivational! Looking forward to any and all videos you would like to bring to us. 💖
It looks like you had a great time! I had a similar experience at Edinburgh this year, was just amazing! I'm now considering flying out to this one but not sure if I can justify it after buying a new harp at Edinburgh!
Wow thank you for sharing, I love the idea of sitting with your back to the harps and listening to them and then finding out which one your drawn too. I also would like to see more of the harp jewellery. Thank you, Beth
Thank you for making this wonderful video! Somerset is now on my bucket list. I would love to hear more of the harp tasting and workshops, as well as interviews with the harp makers. Thanks again for sharing your expertise and experiences worth us! ❤
Thank you for this. Your enthusiasm is contagious. I have a granddaughter taking harp lessons, and I'm going to send her your email address. You mention "harpists" several times, but not "harpers." I'm a folk musician but know no classical music. The difference between a harper and a harpist is the difference between a fiddler and a violinist. You did show bits of musicians playing folk music--mostly Celtic--which is what a harper plays. I'm tempted to grab my granddaughter's harp to try my hand at some Scots, Irish, and Welsh folk tunes. In the Bible, St. John on Patmos relishes the sound of the heavenly "harpers harping on their harps." Isn't that a lovely phrase? 😊
I think it would be great if you would show some of the other stuff you and your sister experienced at the harp festival. Talking with interesting people and seeing harp related goodies. also did they have any food venders their? Keep up the good work!
yeeeeeeeey, that looks so awesome! :) more of harp builders please :) Thank you for this, I dont think that I will ever get there from central Europe, but you really transfer the excitement :) thank you.
I really really enjoyed this! There is very little harp activity close by and this was such a great insight. Also very inspirational for me as a learner starting to play harp in their 50s. Keep up the fabulous work and thank you! Yes, we want to see it all!! We need more xx
Thank you Christy-Lyn, this was amazing you all must of put a lot of work into it. So nice to chat to like minded people too. I'm thinking I really must try and get to a festival it looked so much fun. The Edinburgh one has been cancelled this year but maybe next year, I'll put it in my diary. See you on the 19th :-)
Thanks for coming to the live chat, Barbara! It’s such a pity that Edinburgh festival was cancelled, these things are so inspiring. See you in the Virtual Harp Circle... yay!! 😃
This was a wonderful video. I am interested in everything. Just got my harp last week from Atlanta Harp Company, now to learn to play. I have been watching your videos and am excited to get started.
Great video - certainly made the viewer feel they were part of it! I would love to see a video on double-strung harps if you looked into that since that is on my bucket list.
Hi Christy-Lyn and Team, Sadly I couldn’t join you live this afternoon, but....now I do have time to watch this video while comfortly sitting on the couch;-) I’m sure there will be lots to enjoy!! Greetings , Chantal
I am interested in learning more about the cardboard harps. I would like to make one for myself. I helped my mom make her harp last year and I would like my own.
wow, that looks so beautiful congrats on another wonderful video, hope I can go to the festival too it looks like heaven! And yes show us more it would be so nice!
Thank you so much for sharing your journey Christy-Lyn! I feel like got to live through your amazing experience. I live in Australia and am dreaming I can one day come to an event like this!! I loved your harp tasting video as well, I would never have known that was a thing!
I loved seeing your footage from Somerset! Festivals are amazing! I have only been to a couple myself (Southeastern Harp Weekend, which no longer takes place, unfortunately), but they really make an impact. I would love to see other footage that you feel like posting ☺️
Thank you so much for this Christy-Lyn! The festival seemed like an amazing experience and by watching this video I felt a little bit like I was there myself! I'd definitely want to see more of all the things that you mentioned in the end.
Thanks for this inspiring summary! Sounds like a great place to go to! Love your videos and you have inspired my late harp journey in so many ways. Please keep up the great work! 💚💐👏
That was a heartwarming video! That festival looks amazing, it's a motivation to go there someday if finances allow it. I do hope to see more videos of the ambiance of the place like you've shown here! Harp-makers, lessons... Which one did you end up choosing and why? I also look forward to other videos about other harp festivals if you're able to go there! The bigger ones I know about in Europe are Edinburgh (Scotland) and Dinan (France) but there are a lot of smaller ones, too (that are in my budget). I love the fact that Somerset is specifically folk, because that changes the mood quite a bit!
Ja I haven’t been to other festivals like this one, but I’d really like to!! What fun. Thanks for your interest and questions, there’ll certainly be more videos coming!!
I'd love to participate in a festival like this! I live in France, I think that there is only one harp festival. It must be so nice to meet other harpists (professionnal or not). Thanks for sharing! I'd love to see more videos on this festival :)
Thanks so much Joy, I really appreciate you taking the time to watch this! It’s too long since I’ve seen you. Maybe I’ll see you at Cathy’s wedding celebration? 😃💕🎉
Looks good! Don't know if you've been to the Edinburgh Harp Festival (cancelled this year (2020) because of the Coronavirus) or any festivals in the UK or intending coming to any when possible ??
Wow, I am great you are at my door step. I am in Namibia and I just started today , I turn 43 and want to give myself this present. I never knew about this instrument at all I first saw it 2 weeks ago. All I knew is guitar that is it. I can't wait to be able to play. All thank to APC Namibia Lis Hidber I happy I met you
Hey I was wondering if at one of the traditional Scottish sessions (the one at 12:30 and pictured in the thumbnail) you met a man called Callum MacLeod? I think I recognise him from the thumbnail but it’s hard to be sure. Loved this video, you really get a sense of the energy of the festival just from watching you talk about it!
Hi Christy-Lyn, can you please let me know how you managed to get your harp on the flight? Did it go in the main compartment or did you pay for an extra seat and was the price reasonable for or really expensive? Any details would really help me so much. Thank you!
I didn’t take a harp on the trip, I haven’t flown with one internationally. I did fly with one locally within South Africa and I put it in a big box and put it on a cargo flight.
Mani Estacio Ah, I agree with you! It can be so frustrating to have premieres blocking up your subscription feed. I don’t often use this feature, but thought it would be fun as a community building opportunity for this exciting big video! Can’t wait to watch it all together and have fun in the live chat 👀🤗🎉
Many thanks for making this positive video‼️👍🏼😎

I just started the harp at 49 years old and my husband found you on TH-cam for me. I’m addicted now. Thank you so much. Love from Canada 🇨🇦 💕
WOW - I've entered a new world, haven't got my harp yet, so looking forward to this journey :) Christy-Lyn makes it a fun filled adventure!
Belle, I hope your harp finds you very soon!
More of everything. Makes me seriously think about making the journey myself. Thanks C-L!
Aw, thanks for the encouragement! About going to the festival: all I can say, is that I didn’t regret it at ALL 👌🏻
Oh Christy you were spot on about feeling like a “weirdo”, I’m so happy i am part of this online community. I don’t feel alone
As a harpist, harper, AND composer, i have to tell you that I think you are WONDERFUL! KUDOS to You and Your marvelous youtube channel!!!

Thank you for all your hard work putting this together. Inspired me to go again this year!
Somerset should use this as their promotional video.
Oh Nancy you were in the video!!! Thanks so much for being willing to be on camera 😃 I wish I could join you at Somerset again this year 😭
Or am I getting you confused with someone else? Either way, I remember your name and I’m glad you liked the video!! ❤️
Somerset has posted it on their facebook page! It really captures the spirit of the festival.
I love how the first two options you mention for easy harp moving are harp wheels, or harp husbands! Also, I definitely identify with the "These are my people!" feeling about large groups of harpists.

Glad you liked it, Regina! 😃 Will keep that in mind 👌🏻

Yay!! I’m so glad it was inspirational for you, that’s such good news. More coming soon for sure 😁😁

I never knew about this instrument at all I first saw it 2 weeks ago. All I knew is guitar that is it. I can't wait to be able to play. All thank to APC Namibia Lis Hidber I happy I met you
Hi Secilia, good to hear from you! A good place to contact about harp is Avondale Harps in JHB. Ingrid will help you with getting a harp 😃👍🏻
No, unfortunately I didn’t. I just peeped into the Scottish session and took some video footage 😊
This looks like an amazing event. Would love to try vibroacoustic harp therapy but not sure there is any around the UK
What a great journey! I want to witness myself 😭 May I ask how long have you been learning harp? I want to know your own story with harp, thank you.
JEWELRY PLEASE.... and where we can order it online would be fun!
Luzma Ortiz designs all the jewelry herself. You can order from her website: harpjewelry.com/
love this ^_^
BTW SUDOKU is one of my favs
Harp makers thank you
Hi Christy-Lyn, can you please let me know how you managed to get your harp on the flight? Did it go in the main compartment or did you pay for an extra seat and was the price reasonable for or really expensive? Any details would really help me so much. Thank you!
I didn’t take a harp on the trip, I haven’t flown with one internationally. I did fly with one locally within South Africa and I put it in a big box and put it on a cargo flight.
@@LearningtheHarp Thank you for getting back to me! I've saved the box my harp came in and i'll use that in future.
I'm starting at 57!

Ditto to the comment below by kat dancer!
WHat is your zodiac sign?! ^^
I’ve got to say, I really don’t appreciate the preview/premier system; I wish TH-cam would just do away with it altogether.
