Yonkers (/ˈjɒŋkərz/[4]) is a city in Westchester County, New York. Developed along the Hudson River, it is the third most populous city in the state of New York, after New York City and Buffalo. The population of Yonkers was 211,569 as enumerated in the 2020 United States Census. It is classified as an inner suburb of New York City, located directly to the north of the Bronx and approximately 2 miles (3 km) north of Marble Hill, Manhattan, the northernmost point in Manhattan.
Yonkers's downtown is centered on a plaza known as Getty Square, where the municipal government is located. The downtown area also houses significant local businesses and nonprofit organizations. It serves as a major retail hub for Yonkers and the northwest Bronx.
The city is home to several attractions, including access to the Hudson River, Tibbetts Brook Park, with its public pool with slides and lazy river and two-mile walking loop Untermyer Park; Hudson River Museum; Saw Mill River daylighting, wherein a parking lot was removed to uncover the Nepperkamack (Saw Mill River); Science Barge; and Sherwood House. Yonkers Raceway, a harness racing track, renovated its grounds and clubhouse, and added legalized video slot machine gambling in 2006 to become a "racino" named Empire City. In more recent years, Yonkers has undergone progressive gentrification.
Major shopping areas are located in Getty Square, on South Broadway, at the Cross County Shopping Center and Westchester's Ridge Hill, and along Central Park Avenue, informally called "Central Avenue" by area residents, a name it takes officially a few miles north in White Plains. Yonkers is considered a City of Seven Hills (its hills including Park, Nodine, Ridge, Cross, Locust, Glen, and Church Hills).

Just north of The Bronx is Yonkers, NY, the largest city in Westchester County, NY and the largest satellite city of New York City within New York State. At first, I thought it's dangerous, but when I did some research, it turns out to be a bit safe to live in with an overall crime rate of 10/1000 residents.
I use to live at 253 north broadway from 1971-76. And played basketball at that court. 😊

You should move in Poughkeepsie for much cheaper and just pay for a monthly Metro North pass to NYC if you're going to make the move.
I lived in Yonkers from 1976-1988! From Cromwell Towers, Locust Hill - Riverdale and Radford Street! King School, Longfellow and Emerson MS, Gorton High & Yonkers High! Great growing up! Had lots of friends and fun summer times!!

Okay... [8:58] was Yonkers general Hospital. I was born there in 1947. It's now St. John's Hospital. [10:12] was Halstead School at 229 North Broadway on the left... where I attended from 1961 through 1965. It's now a Christian Academy.

The place where the story "Hello, Dolly!" took place besides New York City.
When you enter Yonkers from the Van Cortlandt Park/Broadway side, it's nice. Shops and a small town feel. When you get towards the downtown Family Dollar, Dunkin section, feels a bit like the Bronx. Lots of people oddly just hanging out. Didn't know if they were waiting on a bus or on a line for hirings. But after a few minutes of walking towards the little pier/park section, it's very nice. Great views and nice vibes.

If you made a right at the light at @3:03 and go up that steep hill you would see some beautiful views of the city with beautiful homes and mansions. It's an area many don't know about in South Yonkers it's probably the most expensive area.

wow...great memories...grew up here for 28 years,,,60's 70's 80's and half the 90's. Was a lot of fun but I can't go back since the state is run like shit. Staying right where I am in the sun and the south. Will always love the place.
