Apologies for how late this video was uploaded! Premiere Pro was being way scared and refused to export the video. So, if you want to be better than Premiere Pro and not be way scared, you should subscribe.
There are worse fates than being scared, like waking up and finding out that Jimmy Rings portrays the Master Chief in your reality and that games never existed.
I actually use Filmora X (or Filmora 10) for video editing for my podcast series, and it has been a pretty good editing tool so far, being leagues better than what I used prior to it. Admittedly I would need to upgrade my PC so I can handle videos longer than 2.5 hours with less time needed to wait for them to export.
Every time I hear Kiki Wolfkill talk I want her to never be put anywhere near halo. I remember back during H4's days where she called the Prometheans not robots, and not monsters, in some tone that implied this was some deep and revelatory detail. Prometheans are literally robots made out of people with weird organic looking components and angry glowy skulls! They are literally monster robots.
The worst thing is, they are throwing away the whole plot of Halo CE. If we know directly from the beginning that halo is a weapon.... There is no sense of wonder.
yup esspecially after seeing fallout, fan films by SODAZ, how did they have all the money and still fail bro, they didnt earn it and didnt play the games, "cant have a tv show with a main character that doesnt show his face"
The only way to fix the tv show is to cancel it and reboot it with proper accuracy. I don't even get it how Microsoft or xbox or whoever the fuck was in charge ever agreed to go with different timeline idea. It showed the lowest level of degeneracy and lack of leadership that there currently is... But yeah we definitely need wolfkill and paramount out of the picture. Who's with me
So, was the budget cut due to poor critical reception? Because 1st season made a whole lotta cash. This just makes me wonder how many people stopped watching halfway through
If someone made a compilation of all the plotholes and contrivances, it'd be over half the length of the show. That's my biggest issue. It's bad enough to label it halo when it's not halo, but it just makes less sense the more you think about anything.
A halo tv show should be such a simple thing to get right. Lean on the militarism and grit. But I guess they'd need HBO to do that instead of paramount.
@@sombramemer1230 I don’t understand why are you guys are so obsessed with this helmet thing. It’s like your NUMBER ONE complaint but it’s the LEAST of the show’s problems. Mandalorian is kid friendly fun with a wildly whimsical tone compared to Halo which is an RATED-M game franchise where human worlds are consistently glassed by extraterrestrial religious fanatics, all while there’s a horrific strain of sentient space herpes bent on devouring all life in the galaxy. You’re telling me Disney would be a good fit because they made a show with some guy hanging out with a green baby who barely takes off his helmet? That’s it?? That’s all you require to think it fits HALO??? Sorry if I’m coming off hostile, but I need you to help me understand what you mean by this. It’s BAFFLING to me
@@wiz5407 not really. John was still trained from literal childhood on military tactics and operations. Dude would still have decades of training to fall back on without an emotinal suppressant.
The halo tv show should have been animated and not live action. With Joe Staten in the directors chair. Don't believe me how this could have been good. mario sonic last of us arcane.
The problem with the show is the writing. The set design, props, actors, etc are all pretty good. Even the VFX is passable. An animated show wouldn't have improved much if anything imo
@@existentialselkath1264 that's why I mentioned to have Joey boy as the director and story writer instead of soulless wokist writers who know nothing about halo cause they did not read the books saw any of the promotion or movies of the gold timeline or played any of the games
@@existentialselkath1264 nah thanks. The props are okay but holy fuck everything is gray and drab. Animated would give us more tight and sleek movements and more sophisticated Covenant tactics and the show would actually have budget to do Reach right. Instead of the costs of live action and trying to make expensive "realistic" CGI, we'd have the colors and visual inspiration. The type we saw in Halo Legends. Go watch Halo Legends and tell me it's not way way way better than the live action sludge we have now. The same reason why Avatar the last Airbender is better in animation than live action
I remember seeing Spielberg announce the Halo TV series. Thinking we would get a gritty, dark showcase of the human covenant war like Saving Private Ryan. How damn wrong I was
@@calebreynolds9183 Yeah, make it an ODST show with Spartans sprinkled throughout in small doses. That helps take care of their budget problem and makes the Spartans feel special at the same time.
No, because my parents played the Halo series with me. My mother kept freaking out about The Flood, though. She also felt queasy from the camera's movement speed. Dad, my brother, and my cousin played them more with me than she did. Gears of War though, she loved. If they saw the Halo show, they'd probably be disgusted with disappointment.
Imagine gamers having to tell parents that have barely any grasp of this IP and watching this series that they’re witnessing a bastardization rather than an adaptation.
Fallout show runners managed to create a series that received the majority approval (even between fans) out of a game series where you can be a Saint, “the saviour of the wasteland”… or a devil, “the ultimate villain” (and all that there is in between). Paramount had a “railway” game series where the protagonist is cool, kills aliens and save the world… and they somehow managed to disappoint the fandom in any way possible.
For how much I dislike the Fallout TV show, at least I can look at the Halo fandom and go "man, at least we don't have it that bad" (Although who knows with Bethesda)
@@LaperLarden dood, the moment me and my friend saw how quickly the arbiter changed his stance on makee as a whole me and my friend instantly thought the two were hanging lmao
44:21 Ah, she must've taken the same medication everyone in Star Wars has been taking the makes their torso immune to getting their organs destroyed by hyper lethal weapons.
Their “budget constraint” was $10m per episode. On a $10.9m budget Game of Thrones gave us “Battle of the Bastards (S6, E9) which is widely considered to be the greatest thing ever to touch a screen, particularly the cinematography of Jon Snow in 1 constant shot.
Dear humanity, We regret being incompetent bastards We regret butchering the Halo story, characters, & etc. And we most definitely regret that Laper Larden saw through our pitiful attempt to curry favor through weak-a references! Thanks for calling it like it is. I'm sick to death of people accepting thinly veiled garbage just because it looks vaguely like *thing that used to be good* We can have better, but only if we stop spending money on, and complimenting, worse.
1:02:24 this whole segment about the lowering of expectations has been a real problem with many franchises lately and you described the problem perfectly
The Halo show has 2 major problems: 1) Kiki Wolfkill (who absolutely hates halo and its fans from the depths of her guts) is an exec producer 2) The writers havent been replaced with absinth fed monkeys with typewriters yet
Even going so far back as Halo 4 Wolfkill had no grasp about the fundamental concepts that made Halo successful. If you ask me Halo's narrative took a complete nosedive starting with Halo 4. It's not surprising that the show turned out like this given that she had a direct input into its development.
What makes this even worse is that for every thing this show does poorly, the recent fallout show executed wonderfully. It’s so dispiriting to watch how one of the largest gaming franchises ever at its peak, fumble so badly to execute a good show, while another I love succeeded. The video game adaptation curse is dead. Why can’t this show’s writers have realized that?
Same Fallout show where a BoS Knight goes FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK SHIT OH FUCK FUCK SHIT and turret fires gorillion bullets at a scientist with a dog and misses all of them? Nah, nah that show ain't it
@shahraiyan4794 ya know what's funny, that's actually... Shockingly accurate to the game. Turrets in 3 hit maybe 1 shot out of 10 fired. Protectrons barely ever hit their shots too. Probably could have been done better though.
@@OKMBVideos lmao just no, if you play on above normal and nostly on normal difficulty you will be shredded by turrets in their line of fire if you constantly don't try to evade them unlike in the retarded scene in the show

Fallout and Last of Us both really hammer home how big a misstep halo was. EDIT: Its kinda funny because I remember when season 1 came out and I would go onto news stories and forums and post comments and without question someone would chime in with the old chestnut "What, you just want them to do a 1 to 1 remake of the games, that would so dumb!". My response was a resounding "YES!" but I also added that "Once theyve done that and established the lore and characters, I would love for them in the following seasons to branch out into other places in the HALO universe, like ODSTs or some other corner like they did in HALO LEGENDS" and invariably the person who commented initially would start talking shit that Im just a fanboy and I dont know whats good for me or some other such bullshit. Honestly, Im pretty sure a lot of the commentors were hired to defend the show because across various sites comments sections and various forums you would see the same things copy pasted as thought they had instructions to post a prewritten thing if they saw someone call the show bad or say anything negative about it.
Except neither Fallout nor Last of Us series are 1:1 retreads of the games. Fallout is a completely new story (that had apparently created major continuity issues), and Last of Us fixed a lot of elements in the game. That being said, Halo doesn't have what those 2 shows have, which is the original game creator serving as showrunner, so they really should have just stuck to the source material, which worked just fine for AGOT after all.
I think if they stuck to the most of the original story beats of Eric Nylund's novel they would have had a better turn out. Mainly due to the characters in that story not acting like a bunch of complete melons. The main example I love happens early in the novel, the scene where Halsey talks with Deja and Mendez over whether or not to tell the Children the truth about their situation. There is a collaboration of different mindsets and outcomes of choosing to lie, mindwipe them, or tell the truth. Ultimately for the betterment of the children she tells them the Truth, with the added fact that they will become something better and amazing. That's a very pivotal moment for John and the other kids. It's not some "I'm a woman girl boss who knows better than the both of you and will do whatever it is because I duh smawt one" vapid attempt at a smart character. It's moments like those that really give the characters depth, for me anyway. Edit: Keep the fucking helmet on and learn to emote through body movement.
Because we had Smooth brain leadership that says all the wrong things and refused to be faithful to the Bungie games and original book series. Then, they give us one of the laziest stories ever told that Ive not heard anyone actually defend competently because I doubt they even remember what happened. This show doesn’t deserve a season 3 but Im sure its going to happen thanks to paramount not having any other shows to milk for money… I envy the fans of Fallout :(
Bungie themselves didn’t want anything to do with Halo when Microsoft bought it. Honestly, incredibly sad to have created something that means so much to people and not demonstrate any sort of pride in the product.
@@Mikelike60I mean bungie made ce, 2, 3, odst, and reach. Bungie did their time and set up the world. 343 hired people who hated halo and chose to continue chiefs story that way. When the entire halo universe was open to them. They never even tried to do an odst story or hell even a diffrent spartan story. 343 failed halo.
@@zachrohler1047 I can agree with that, especially with the recent handling of Halo. I still believe that if you want to trace back to when Halo dipped it was when it was acquired. I don’t think Bungie should have sold it, but who am I to ask someone to be a slave to their product.
@@Mikelike60 Sometimes being a slave to your product or story is a good idea. These days people are overprotective of their own ideas, they despise any change without their input. It's why purity tests exist. True fan is now a label and anything else means you're a fake fan or tourist. """New fans""" is despised by true fans for a reason
It took me until just this second to realise that we'll never be able to see Ron Perlman as a live action Lord Hood. ... Shit. That would have rocked. The guys who made Forward Unto Dawn should have been given the reigns for this show in my opinion. And the fact that Spielberg was the one to be associated with the project for so long and is then no where to be seen should have instilled zero confidence in the fan base. Microsoft needed to do something and they didn't have the balls to go all in like HBO or Amazon have recently with the Last of Us and the new Fallout series. They could have convinced Spielberg or someone under him whome he trusts to adapt the original source material/trilogy into a show and just left them to cook but I suspect they jus wanted a set of showrunners who they could command and mold their own weird image onto. Makes me sad, in 2013 the project showed so much promise (as did the franchise as a whole) [edit: lol, I paused to write this before the conclusion and you mentioned LoU and Fallout as well.... nice to know we're on the same page on that one]
I think something you should have mentioned as well is that video games have been adapted into television shows successfully at this point. Obviously, Halo has with Forward Unto Dawn and Halo Legends, but those were largely original stories. We have seen game stories be taken 1 for 1 and translated successfully like TLOU season 1. That is what makes this even more frustrating because Halo's universe deserves so much more.
They could have just made a season out of Halo CE. It's a straightforward, self-contained plot that lays everything out. Fucking it up as badly as they did seems like a conscious decision.
@rustyshaklford9557 I completely agree. I understand some of the effects may be costly, but as far as writing, the only thing that'd really needs to be fixed is the gameplay sections, but even then Halo the Flood novel does that for you lmao.
45:28 why does nobody call out the fact that she's making it seem like Halo can pick who to destroy. It cannot be weilded as a weapon to kill your enemy. It kills everything. Human, covenant, any sentient beings. Unless you're telling me they've even made the space "hula hoop" a generic mass destruction weapon for anyone to use in this horrible timeline
That's a wider problem with how Halo is depicted in the show. Everyone seems sold on it being a weapon that can cause a lot of destruction, but they don't know how it does this. Makee also says it can create life. But it's never explained how she knows this? Is this something she's inferring from her visions on the ring due to her Forerunner, Blessed One gift bullshit? Is that part of the Covenant's prophecy about the Halo rings in this timeline? If you're a first time viewer or new fan, I can imagine it's probably very confusing.
@@LaperLarden ah shit I forgot about that too. The way they speak about really makes it seem more like the ark and a shield world than an actual Halo. But even then, you have to have someone reseed life. It's not some magical mcguffin creation machine that can also wipe out your enemies. This isn't some ring of power from LOTR. And again it takes away the mystery and slow horrific realization of what this universe and the ring is about. And speaking of the covenant, outside of Mackee we know little to what they actually believe. Btw can you heart my comment again? I sadly edited "space hoop" to "hula hoop" in reference to sgt Johnson but forgot it takes away the creator heart. I want people that see your video to see how they've even butchered the namesake of the series.
We need a ODST TV show with people who actually know-of and like the Halo Universe: imagine the movies/TV shows Band Of Brothers, Saving Private Ryan, A bridge too far or even 1917 in which its just normal people in military service being subjected to a brutal enemy, dark, gritty and full of real human moments but with a futuristic Halo setting
Then a med or near ending episode that’s basically the babysitter, where the audience has heard of Spartans but only seen glimpses of them till now. Told from the odst point of view
Also, another factor that season 2 just quietly got rid of was the Spartans and elites shields cause remember in season 1 they made sure you would notice that the Spartans and elites have shield but season 2 its practically nonexistent like it's not even there
@LaperLarden EXACTLYYYYYY did they just forget or didn't have the budget and minor saving grace for this seasons was the action in ep 1 and 4 cause in that episode one cool scene I loved is where John tackles an elite into store and I was like ok that's some pretty cool shit there
That’s a good point. I remember an old behind the scenes clip about Combat Evolved where a Bungie developer talked about how important it was for gameplay that elites have shields. Essentially making them the closest equals in combat to Chief, and their AI (especially on higher difficulties) would mimic tho player’s tactics, like firing from cover, recognizing sniper fire, hiding while their shields recharge, etc. It made combat encounters exciting, and rewarded a strategic approach, like watching ammo count and and utilizing allies (well..maybe not so much the wet tissue paper marines in CE, lol) rather than a repetitive run-n-gun shooter. Elites’ combat skills and intelligence emphasized how dangerous a threat the Covenant were to humanity, and in turn the Flood once you realize that a single infection spore can quickly overtake an entire covenant base. I didn’t expect much from this show’s second season, but the Covenant and Flood portrayals are pretty disappointing. The Paramount Flood forms just seem like discount Resident Evil zombies
Its like they decided to take intro of 4 cutscene with the remark how spartans exhibit psychological behaviors unless paired with an AI comment. Then used that as a what if basis for an unhinged Master Chief. Cause even if you are to compare the bungie's master chief, and 343 games master chief to the life action master chief. They share absolutely nothing to the live action chief, other then just name alone.
It was screwed from the start. Setting it in a different timeline means it will (thankfully) have nothing to do with anything that has happened in the halo setting at any point. They didn't even give themselves the chance at it being part of the overall narrative and that we might see characters like Lasky's perspective during the fall of reach - something we couldn't have seen in the books as he obviously wasn't written yet. Although now I'm glad they didn't as they would have just screwed it up too, at least the silver timeline stays gone this way
Im gonna be honest. The argument of “budget issues” is irrelevant because it’s not our fault the 1st season failed. That’s on the producers, not the viewers. If they made a good show we would’ve watched and they could’ve gotten a bigger budget. I don’t feel bad about their low budget because they earned it Edit: irrelevant to my point but why do the elites look like weird reptile mantis things? Like was that in season 1? It’s so bad
@@SoccercrazyigbomanAnimation isn't always cheaper or easier, it faces a whole host of its own challenges when it comes to production timelines. It's often a miracle that any animated production is finished
I would feel a little bit bad if they had at least tried. Make us fall in love with a main street of Reach and let the fight take place there. We don't need to go to multiple locations per episode
@CommanderLexa8541 man, imagine that, seeing a bustling street, then panic, bodies of covenant and human civies, cops, soldiers, and then a glassing beam. That'd be heavy.
Great video, you literally pointed out the exact things that destroyed the show for me. The main thing that destroyed the tv show for me was 343 and Kiki's need to make humanity the bad guys. They made humanities military and government so cartoonishly evil and incompetent that I was rooting for the Covenant.
Where Halo is at right now really reminds me of Doom in the late oughts, early 2010s (with the show being mirrored by the Doom movie, and some of the devicive decisions made in the games mirroring things from games like Doom 3). I still have hope for Halo's Doom 2016, bur I'm not holding my breath for it and I'm not going to be disappointed when it never surfaces
An easy Halo story to follow a whole ship like the Spirit of Fire and habe several main characters. Include captain, a spartan team, odsts, regular marines and navy personal. Doesn't even have to be close to Chief at all. Maybe Master Chief does a cameo
15:17 Thank you so much for bringing this up. When I saw the very very small article bringing this up my jaw hit the floor. "What do you mean you don't have the budget for the fall of Reach? Literally the second most important planet behind Earth in the gold timeline"
@@LaperLarden I want to know how expensive the old ads were. Like all of the old love action trailers that were 100% more faithful to Halos story and setting. Granted we would have to factor in inflation but still would be interesting to analyze.
That guy walking in the intro actually walks like Chief in the show. I don’t get why Paramount insisted the male spartans do that weird “waddle” with their arms really wide out
Dude…this video just about made me cry. I’ve been trying so hard, so so hard to be optimistic and look for the good in everything media-wise, and especially Halo…For YEARS. And as this season came out, I kept and kept looking for the good. And shaming myself into believing this was a worthy upgrade to the last season. But this video just opened a floodgate of repressed frustration, betrayal, and straight up bafflement at just how inept large scale art has become in this day and age.
If y'all want the fall of Reach portrayed correctly, you should read Halo: Feet First. It's a really fucking good ongoing fanfiction focused on an ODST named Duncan, covering the Fall of Reach in the current arc. I strongly recommend all current 171 chapters of it.
Saying an actor can't convey emotion with their face covered is just saying, "I'm a bad actor". Plenty of people have performed incredibly well in helmets and with an obscured face for other reasons. A recent example being The Mandalorian, Pedro Pascal takes off the helmet, but not often
1:03:00 I think it's because all the people who hated it stopped watching it so the only people talking about it were the ones who somehow found enjoyment out of it
Do you know what the difference is? In one case, Todd Howard himself is actively involved in constructing the series. On the other hand, the Halo showrunner stated, "We didn’t look at the game. We didn’t talk about the game. We talked about the characters and the world"
After watching the Fallout series, I just wish this show was wiped from existence. Thank 343, ever since you’ve come along, nearly everything anyone’s ever loved about Halo has been destroyed or forgotten. I can’t stand this, MICROSOFT WAKE THE F UP
Sadly Microsoft is too blind by money to care about Halo. And we've heard of the many projects that were canned that would've been AWESOME by former 343 employees who pitched them. Halo needs to be out of Microsoft's and 343's hands since they are afraid to innovate and do creative stuff to give life to the franchise!
What I wish they did. Is make the “fall of reach” the final episode instead of the flood. So it could lead the storyline of halo 1 as season 3. At that point it’s a soft reboot
There is actually a reason Halo is having humanity be the bad guys, not just to be pretentious. Its because of Avatar. That film is what people (averages joes) think of when they think space marines. They think “hey aliens good marines bad!” Forgetting the context between avatar and halo.
51:18 so as far as I can tell, they made the Spartan III's in the show into the Spartan IV's from the games. They are just a selection of 'veteran' marines who were augmented into super soldiers. But yeah, like you mentioned, maybe they were not augmented? It's hard to tell isn't it. Maybe the armour does the work for them? Who knows (or cares) at this point. 😅
1:06:00 - I think there's always going to be some level of disagreement. But if it was a faithful adaptation and well-written, I do think the vast majority of Halo fans would've rallied to it. And probably people beyond that Halo fandom too.
Forget the Fall of Reach. That's captivating and amazing. But what about the Fall of the Covenant? Fall of High Charity? The Splitting of the Covenant? The build up to the civil war? You could make AMAZING plots there...
5:50 even if master chief is a symbol, he is a great symbol that he genuinely is proud of embodying. Basically kiki kaka here wants to do what halo 4 did to chief except go a 10 times as "emotional". Basically she wants to write John as a what she imagines a John as a man is, if you know anything about your average female writer, that means make him a whiny, melodramatic, romance obsessed, sentiment fool who hates the very idea of fighting for duty and his principles as a solider of humanity.
AKA exactly what is wrong with female writers these days. (Or atleast in main stream) There are good female writers, its just that often we see the dregs get chosen for projects like this.
Fucking exactly. The halo 4 soundtrack is largely the only part of the game that has any right to be related to the Halo IP, and the show couldn't reference the track 117 even once when the Master Chief is on screen.
I think 4 could have been good in exploring chiefs response to Cortanas growing rampancy, but it went way too whiplash with how quickly it moved to Chief panicking compared to previous games.
Fallout's show quality and success just proves that Halo The TV Series(TM) could absolutely have been another faithful piece of media set in the 'gold' timeline. We've had so many great authors writing for the books, it's just insane (stupid) that we didn't get another addition to the actual lore. We know for a fact that Halo doesn't even need to revolve around the Master Chief as if he is the fucking Sun - several extremely beloved entries in the game series and many of the books prove this easily. There are an abundance of unexplored and unexpanded points in all of those spaces that would work well in film or series form. People still are fond of Forward Unto Dawn, and that looked like it had the budget for a small car. On the bright side, the choice to give Paramount Halo: The Adventures of Jimmy Rings to the most useless writers possible was quarentined to non-canon slop, unlike Nightfall.
Did the Halo TV show still suck? Yes, especially after watching the Fallout show and learning that Fallout 4 gets 4x the concurrent player than before (~25k to >100k). 21:07 And the only 343 era Halo game that (a) does not have chief-go-rouge, thus not in the list in the following 10 seconds (b) manages to humanize MC while maintaining his stoicism (c) has really really good music and clever reference of Marty's also does not having the one in question as Producer, only as Head of Transmedia. Coincidence? I think not.
Well, I didn't wanna say it... But, I think there's a connection. Hopefully if future Halo games with Master Chief get made, they'll maintain how he was depicted in Infinite.
I just wanted to chime in and say I really appreciate your videos. Your breakdowns are truly exceptional and well put. I very rarely disagree with what you say and even when I do, you make compelling points. The show is a tragedy to us lifelong Halo fans. Save for a few scattered gems in the show, it's such a disappointment and I worry we won't get a genuine live action Halo adaptation in my lifetime. Which sounds incredibly overdramatic and grim but watching Halo just implode these past several years is just heartbreaking as it's arguably my favorite franchise of all time.
Well, if the Paramount merger with Sony goes ahead, maybe we'll see a reboot or different adaptation of Halo by a different studio. Can't imagine Microsoft would be very happy to have their franchise in (technically) Sony's hands.
@@switchboy2320 An animated Halo film or TV Show in a similar style to Spiderverse would be incredible. I didn't realise how much I wanted that till just now.
@@LaperLarden On a real note, Halo was never meant to be a satire or critique. It wasn't subversive, that's just not the type of story they were telling. It was never about how "humans are the real monsters". It is basically retelling the classic archetypical stories of military bravery. The ONI stuff from the show seemed like they thought they were making Starship Troopers.
halo didn't have the budget? Like halo 3 in it's first week made just about as much as End Game's first week. What's the point of doing the series if there's no budget to tell the story. At that point someone should have either decided to A) start the story after the fall of reach or B) just choose a cheaper medium.
It should be noted that this show fails at what constellations are not once, but twice. Constellations are just clumps of stars as seen from your current location, they have very little to do with their actual location in space. They are not star clusters. You cannot just look up at the sky from any random planet and go "Oh i know where that is!". They were used for navigation on earth because the point of reference, earth, doesn't change. Despite this, Makee is able to instantly know where halo is due to seeing a constellation. Which is odd as Cortana already had images of the ring. By this same logic...shouldn't they have been able to ID the system already? And then the Kwan puzzle doubles down on this misinterpretation by having the solution to the puzzle be about moving around constellations in a 3D star map...based on some unexplained 2D cave paintings in the rubble. That she memorized while trying to avoid being a slave.
Thank you for this video. I hope this show doesn't get a third season and instead we start from scratch with a movie or a new show that actually wants to be Halo. I watched this show with my brother, who only really knows Halo from watching me play it. And he think the show is good because "It kinda looks like Halo and it got some action so it's fine" (when it barely looks like Halo and barely has any action in it). There are plenty of movies and shows that I watched that have problems, and I still enjoy them. But this show crosses the line on so many occasions and it doesn't any redeeming qualities to balance that out.
More and more corporate media seems to be run or written or idk what, by either bad D&D tween dungeon masters, a 5 year old telling a story, or a bad improv group populated by people with no short term memory. Video games, movies, TV shows. So many of them have the same constellation of symptoms. It's frustrating and sad.
Fantastic video mate, and it really is a stark comparison when you look at the Fallout TV show and how faithful that is in every little detail, truly makes me wonder of what we could have had with halo
Imagine if they actually did something crazy like have the main character wear the helmet the entire time and have the original voice actor just voice him through the whole thing, that would’ve blown everybody’s minds
Any Halo story would have been better if John/Chief was not the main character. The "Master Chief" was designed to be a self-insert character. Sure, the books expanded John's character. But that is all expanded universe information. While not the best alternate character, having Catherine Halsey, Either Keyes, or another member from Blue team would have been a better choice for the main character.
You will never convince me that the writers of this show and / or the showrunners explicity set out with the goal of crapping all over Halo and outting the franchise in the dirt. So many small changes made with absolutely no justification that only made the show worse. SODAZ here on YT makes in-engine animations of games, including Halo that filled me with more emotion than any of the schlock these writers have ever even dreamed of.
Kiki has shown time and time again that she doesn't understand what Madter Chief and Halo in general really is. She keeps trying to turn it into something its not and it never worked out. Its time for someone else who actually gets it to take her place. Seriously.
Thank you for this video, Hopefully videos like this brings the halo community to a understanding that we at least deserve better. Thank you for your time and effort in making a video. That gives a good viewpoint and understanding in why the halo t.v. series in a way failed In a video game t v series adaptation
Why couldn't they do what fallout did and tell a separate story adjacent to the 20 years of lore they could've pulled from. Like yeah I get they want to use the big names like Chief and Reach but damn admitting you can't do the Fall of Reach justice should be a back to the drawing board moment
Fnaf movue barely follows it's own lore. Fallout TV show is actually really bad, and likes to pretend New Vegas doesn't exist cause Todd Howard is spiteful. Japan actually hates the Mario movie and it's shown, the west actually butchered Princess Peach character. I refuse to believe any true fan of these series actually like these train wrecks
You're a toxic nitpicking lunatic! 🤣, countless FNaF fans loved the FNAF Movie, and its story, I was one of them, and some things that happen in the FNAF Movie are very much like the games. Countless people love the Fallout TV Show, many viewers and critics like Act Man and Critical Drinker loved the Fallout TV Show, I loved the Fallout TV Show it was epic, fun, and it made me really want to go back and play the Fallout games AGAIN. WHEN Did it pretend New Vegas doesn't exist!? WHEN!? And besides! New Vegas is rumoured to come to the Fallout TV Show in SEASON 2! And if that's the case then you have NO REASON TO COMPLAIN... And besides, why does it matter if New Vegas is not in the Fallout TV Show!? WHY??? What kind of nitpick is that!? 🤣🤣🤣, and besides! The Mario Movie was fun, entertaining, and they didn't butcher Mario . Countless viewers and critics loved it! It wasn't perfect, but countless Mario fans were entertained and had fun watching it, and at least it didn't butcher Mario like the Halo TV Show did to Master Chief or The Rise of Skywalker did to Luke Skywalker, at least they respected Mario's character, and made him tough and important, and why are you using the opinions of Japanese people to use as your excuse for why you hate The Mario Movie!? I'm sure there are some Japanese people who like it, and besides why should it matter if many Japanese people hate it!? They can have their opinions, but countless viewers and critics around the world like it.
You toxic loony 😂. Countless FNaF Fans liked the FNaF Movie and its story, I enjoyed watching it, and there were some things in the FNaF Movie that followed the lore, like Purple Guy being crushed in the suit, a security Guard in a small room being attacked by animatronics, 5 children being murdered, the animatronics being possessed by the ghosts of the children, and so on. I can't believe that you are hating and nitpicking the Fallout TV Show because it "doesn't have New Vegas in it", CALM DOWN BRO 😂, it says online that they're planning to add New Vegas to the Season 2 of the Fallout TV Show, and if that's the case then... WHAT Are you even complaining about??? 🤣, The Fallout TV Show is fun and epic in my opinion and millions of other people's opinions, and it made me want to go back and play Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas, and Fallout 4 all over again. And as for the Mario Movie, it was liked by critics, and viewers all around the world. And WHY Are you using the opinions of Japanese people to "prove your point?" Is that how desperate you are? I know there are many Japanese who weren't fans of the Mario Movie but I'm sure there are some who approved of it. And besides, at least they kept Mario as an important and strong character as he should be. Grow up man 🤣...
@@soukenmarufwt5224 *Has played all of bethesdas fallout, and new vegas. Hated 76, is aware of the writting flaws in 4. Haven't played fallout 1 and 2, mostly cause I hate games with hard time limits* Ok so I like the fallout TV show. Does it have some lore breaking stuff? Yeah. It's also told to us via unreliable narrators, who lie, who misremember. Human beings, living within the world. The most lore breaking thing is ghouls needing to take some kind of drug to stave off going feral, but my best guess? Ghouls only need to take them if they are on the cusp of going feral. I like the show because it gets the feel right. The characters, and the world around them, and how they react to the situations is EXACTLY what you should expect the main chars, and side chars for that matter, with their backgrounds, to do! Vault tec also is not confirmed to have dropped the bombs, only that they wanted to have the ability to. (Could get more into specifics, but not here, this is bout halo) ... not as familiar with the mario series, but yup, from how peach is shown in the mainline games, she is VERY different in the movie. Then you remember mario and rabids, where peach gets a shotgun, or the mario RPG games. So not as out there as you might think. Granted, this is somewhat whataboutisim. But paramounts halo cannot be bothered to do the barest minimum to maintain continuity with it's original source. Characters personalities, and motivations, are completely changed from their original incarnations. (Appearance changes are also annoying) Equipment exists that did not cannonically, like battle rifles ON REACH, the grappleshot, SPI on spartan 3s not working as low visibility armour. The changes to how the covenant acts. Failing to show how unified humanity was in the final years of the war, because of the covenant's actions. Fallout and mario both kept to the spirit of their source material, at least! Halo did not.
There are a number of issues with Halo series in general. I've not seen the second season aside from the first one or two episodes they put on TH-cam for people to watch for free. And even then, there were red flags starting to show. When first season was airing, co-worker and I who both played the games, read the books, even saw some of the official and fan made videos talked at length how bad of a dumpster fire it was looking to be. We both even discussed what could have been done different if either of us had been in charge. He had wanted to go the more traditional route with keeping main established characters as the focus with maybe some minor tweaks to the story and maybe to the characters themselves. Nothing major, just small slight alterations that I thought would have been far more reasonable than what the show did. When he asked what I would have done I told him I would have gone the Mandalorian route. He asked what I meant by that, the Mandalorian wasn't an established main character like Luke Skywalker, Bobba Fett, or any other characters. He was practically a nobody with no name other than Mando till later in the season 1 when we got more details on who he was. But along the way the audience got to pick up on small subtle details of he was and how became what he is. Then as the story progressed, we got to see some familiar faces. However, they didn't become the focal point of the story. They played important roles, but nothing that took as much focus from the main characters that the show had been focused on which was the Mandalorian and the child he was caring for. First two seasons of that series stuck to that, and it worked with huge payoffs in end of the second season on the emotional scale. If I had been in charge, I would first want to focus on the humans and begin with. Literally first season is dedicated to humanity and the insurrection and a handful characters who are like the Mando, they are practically nobodies who have interaction with some main established characters and maybe have some minor effects on their stories to a limited degree and vice versa. But keep the focus on them, their struggles, their triumphs, their failures, and how their actions have consequences for one another. It would be at the end of the first season when I would reveal the Covenant in their formal glory and all the respect and the terror that they deserve. Don't get me wrong, there may be some minor hints and clues leading to them. But I want their reveal to be terrifying. I want it to illicit a reaction that would have people fully understand just how scary and powerful the Covenant can be. I would have that first season end on a cliff hanger, with the second picking up with not only the perspective of the humans, but the Covenant as well. The Covenant has a lot of complexity to it, and another few extra no bodies can give the audience an actual peek into that world and see what it is like. Later on, I would eventually bring in a Halo and the Flood. Note the words a Halo, there are stories on specific installations, I'd use one that doesn't get as much attention. My reasoning, every Halo was unique, they had same functions for the most part. But topography and to some extent internally they were different. Can really make something new and unique and have fun with it. Can show off the Flood in a way that really comes close to their namesake and how unrelenting of an existential crisis they are. A literal onslaught of death as those who played the games and read the books saw them as. By the time I got finished explaining specific characters, key events, and locations I had wanted to have in the series with definitely additional writers for filler in a few areas came to the conclusion my series was looking probably 5-7 seasons worth. His reaction to each of those moments I had wanted to do and put details to how those scenes would unfold had him stunned. Before he later exclaimed, "That's a Halo series worth watching! I want the script for season 1!" My point is I would want to keep with the setting and the general lore of Halo and use the characters as a portal that for the audience. To emphasis moments and consequences where they really mattered. This is where this show *FAILS* at and is more than likely continue should it from some reason get a third season. Other issues are people having personal agendas that may not line up to the established Halo we've come to know over the years. And I'm hoping they don't get a third season, because they will only add to the division if they do. I know in conclusion video of the first season video I mentioned my brother's girlfriend and what she thought of season one. She didn't even bother season 2, in fact I decided to give her my concepts for a series and like my former co-worker she was wanting that to be the series rather than the "Silver" timeline. In any case glad to know that yeah didn't really miss much with this one. And for this stupidly curious on what I would have done I'd be willing to explain in detail what those characters and moments were.
I gave up midway through season 1. I won't go back to it. I only hope we get a reboot at some point. I understand doing something creatively different to the original content, creative liberties are one thing, but to entirely change and or ignore, even the most important concepts of the story, is just mind boggling. It's a travesty we've waited over a decade for live action media and this is how it gets treated.
Apologies for how late this video was uploaded! Premiere Pro was being way scared and refused to export the video.

Would you like to hear my version of season 1 and 2? A million times better than the actual 2 seasons?
I actually use Filmora X (or Filmora 10) for video editing for my podcast series, and it has been a pretty good editing tool so far, being leagues better than what I used prior to it.
Admittedly I would need to upgrade my PC so I can handle videos longer than 2.5 hours with less time needed to wait for them to export.
My thoughts on the halo series:
Kill me or release me, parasite but do not waste my time with talk.
That about sums it up 😂
There is much talk.
And much bullshit.
yea it was a hit or miss with the tv show but alot of people gave paramount more money just google how much money they got from people watching it lol
Glad I will only watch reviews on this trash show, lol. 🤣
Kiki Wolfkill effectively tried to feminize Halo by focusing emotion in the wrong places and it failed miserably.
I perfer to consider them, Ghosts in machines.
@A-mt1oc his theme was pretty poggers. Nemesis is a great piece of music that shows the forerunners in a darker over powering force
I'lll take a reboot over a season three. this adaptation sucks so much.
Yep just make a Reach spinoff or something. I really don't need to see any more of this timeline
My man, this isn't even an adaptation. This was a new coat of paint over a mass effect show someone couldn't greenlight.
Reboot? More like a FULL new series made by people who care about the actual source material!

Makes me sad, in 2013 the project showed so much promise (as did the franchise as a whole)
[edit: lol, I paused to write this before the conclusion and you mentioned LoU and Fallout as well.... nice to know we're on the same page on that one]
Too bad 343 seems to hate ODSTs
Also, another factor that season 2 just quietly got rid of was the Spartans and elites shields cause remember in season 1 they made sure you would notice that the Spartans and elites have shield but season 2 its practically nonexistent like it's not even there
Noticed that a lot this season - rarely ever saw an Elite with shields and the Spartan 3's definitely didn't.
I don’t feel bad about their low budget because they earned it
Edit: irrelevant to my point but why do the elites look like weird reptile mantis things? Like was that in season 1? It’s so bad
The show should have been animated
If you don't have the budget to do live action, then do animated
Time to grab some popcorn and stream this to the TV. Laper movie is here.

15:17
Thank you so much for bringing this up. When I saw the very very small article bringing this up my jaw hit the floor.
"What do you mean you don't have the budget for the fall of Reach? Literally the second most important planet behind Earth in the gold timeline"
Just a friendly reminder that each episode supposedly costs $10 million. But you wouldn't know it from how they look 😂
@@LaperLarden I want to know how expensive the old ads were.
Like all of the old love action trailers that were 100% more faithful to Halos story and setting.
Granted we would have to factor in inflation but still would be interesting to analyze.

@@LaperLarden Thanks! Much appreciated!
That guy walking in the intro actually walks like Chief in the show.
I don’t get why Paramount insisted the male spartans do that weird “waddle” with their arms really wide out
Gotta say, the armour doesn't look the most comfortable to wear. So, it almost makes sense why the actors are out of it for so much time.
1:03:00 I think it's because all the people who hated it stopped watching it so the only people talking about it were the ones who somehow found enjoyment out of it
Commenting to boost this in the algorithm and sharing this with my grandma's book club cuz I think everyone needs to watch this 👍
As a Fallout fan, I can only offer my sympathies Halo guys.
As a fellow fallout fan and halo fan...I know. Thank you.
Do you know what the difference is? In one case, Todd Howard himself is actively involved in constructing the series. On the other hand, the Halo showrunner stated, "We didn’t look at the game. We didn’t talk about the game. We talked about the characters and the world"
Thank you. 😢 this actually felt nice to read
Hope you realize the Fallout show is horrible too.

After watching the Fallout series, I just wish this show was wiped from existence. Thank 343, ever since you’ve come along, nearly everything anyone’s ever loved about Halo has been destroyed or forgotten.
I can’t stand this, MICROSOFT WAKE THE F UP
Okay Biased Bungie Fantroll.
@@NebLlebHe's right tho,Halo has been in the worst state it has ever been since 343 took over.
Well this is not a surprise
I heard that since Jimmy Rings lost his "Big Green Virgin" card, some people demoted him to James Circle
The next level down is Joshua Cylinders.
Joe Round for when Arby divorces him.
They cant check the recording on master chiefs helmet in this, cuz he never wears it lol !!
This t v show could have The Halo community revived like a did for fallout last of us.
Cyberpunk 2077.
THIS MAN COOKED!
Forget the Fall of Reach. That's captivating and amazing.
But what about the Fall of the Covenant? Fall of High Charity?
The Splitting of the Covenant? The build up to the civil war? You could make AMAZING plots there...
Longest video yet! Thx for undertaking this monumental task and for having made it so entertaining to watch good sir.
My pleasure!
One of the biggest fumbles was not giving it to HBO as they have the track record, money, and respect lore
This makes me so sad but I have hope that someone will avenge Halo someday with stories that do justice to it.
Did the Halo TV show still suck? Yes, especially after watching the Fallout show and learning that Fallout 4 gets 4x the concurrent player than before (~25k to >100k).
21:07 And the only 343 era Halo game that
(a) does not have chief-go-rouge, thus not in the list in the following 10 seconds
(b) manages to humanize MC while maintaining his stoicism
(c) has really really good music and clever reference of Marty's
also does not having the one in question as Producer, only as Head of Transmedia. Coincidence? I think not.
Well, I didn't wanna say it... But, I think there's a connection. Hopefully if future Halo games with Master Chief get made, they'll maintain how he was depicted in Infinite.
You provide the most insightful takes out of any Halo content creator I know.
It's clear that you know the lore very well!
Compared to some, I'm a novice. But I know enough to tell when the show gets it wrong 😂
Great video and They really should have had the show be animated if they had so many budget constraints

Ah yes an hour of Laper Larden. I NEED to find some time for this movie right here.
Imagine how good Halo would be if it were being made by people who like Halo
A Frankie classic: "We hired people who hated Halo" goofy ahh.
343 thought they could treat the 3's like 4's anyone can be a spartan.
halo didn't have the budget? Like halo 3 in it's first week made just about as much as End Game's first week. What's the point of doing the series if there's no budget to tell the story. At that point someone should have either decided to A) start the story after the fall of reach or B) just choose a cheaper medium.
46:15 I know next to nothing about any of this, but even I know that this "arbiter" would never disobey an order from his superiors.
To be fair, there's no way anyone brain damaged enough to enjoy this show would know that.
They literally could have just had steve downes voice him while never taking off the armor
Master Chief without his helmet is NSFW lol.
Johnanthan Nolan should take over Halo. Just start from scratch.
I wanna live in the timeline where we got the good Halo TV Show.
When your sharing a Pringles can and your on the last one 21:15
I love the editing gags, they're very funny!
Seriously.
Man i think im entering my halo depression again the amount of missed potential and what we gone through the last 10+ years😢

Why couldn't they do what fallout did and tell a separate story adjacent to the 20 years of lore they could've pulled from. Like yeah I get they want to use the big names like Chief and Reach but damn admitting you can't do the Fall of Reach justice should be a back to the drawing board moment

Ok so I like the fallout TV show. (Could get more into specifics, but not here, this is bout halo)
... not as familiar with the mario series, but yup, from how peach is shown in the mainline games, she is VERY different in the movie.
1 Hour of HALO CONTENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LET"S GO!!!!!!!!!
