    Im neurodivergent but i have no disorder like autism or adhd. I got diagnosed by autism but when i went to specialists, they said i had only some characteristics of autism, and neurodivergent thinking styles. Feels alone still

      Sarah and Kenrick, I wonder if you have what I have which is "Broad Autism Phenotype". It is just off the spectrum but has many of the characteristics just milder. My kids are high functioning autistic or Aspbergers and I was tested and diagnosed with Broad Autism phenotype and add inattentive which shows up differently in adult women. You are not alone ladies. I was 52 when I was finally diagnosed.

      @@kenrickbautista6141 I am sorry for saying ladies. I should have checked the names a little more. The fact that it shows up differently in adult women doesn't mean that it couldn't also be affecting you. And the broad autism phenotype is not gender-specific. There's a lot of overlap in anxiety, ADHD, autism, and OCD. They often get diagnosed for each other. Keep advocating for yourself until you feel you've got the diagnosis that's the best fit for you. I personally think diagnosis can be important because then we can get the right treatments and we can find the right people to support us because they understand.

      Broad Autism Phenotype --
      and Neurodivergent ...more research projects!! (been away from therapy a long time).
      --> From a 73 yo woman diagnosed w/simple depression in my 30's by a very narrow-minded doctor.
      I went on to other doctor(S) until (high-functioning) Aspergers was finally called ...but not until my late 50s. [ Such a waste of a Life ].
      Unfortunately, my "dear family" refused to let me "out of the box they had put me in". It was more comfortable & convenient to continue calling me the Family "TROUBLEmaker" than to accept my diagnosis. So, no support & no growth. Just their ongoing arrogant mindset from which I more & more often would simply distance myself.
      HEAVY (LONELY) S I G H ....
      I am comforted, these days, tho, knowing that mental health issues are publically discussed,& hopefully, others like me will not have such wasted, frustrating lives ...
      "I could'a been a contender..."
      !!!!!!!!
      Anyway, as we said in the 60s...
      KEEP ON KEEPING ON!!
      and
      KEEP THE FAITH, BABY!!!

    Does any of this sound familiar to you?
    Sometimes I hear running water as music, sometimes different wavelengths of light sound different. When the never ending buzz in my head changes frequency, I feel the tingling in my body also change. It’s sort of like a feeling of something sliding out from under me. There is always something. In my world; the sound of silence is indeed “the roar of silence”
    None of this bothers me, it’s just the way it’s always been.
    In my youth I was surprised to discover it’s not that way for everyone. One of my elders explained it to me by saying “if from birth we hit you in the head every morning with a ball peen hammer, the day we stopped doing it; you’d think there was something wrong”
    Maybe that’s what they did.
    It’s an old expression “we learn to live with what we can’t rise above”

    I was born in and brought up in a foreign culture - Thailand. I'm an MK (missionary kid) and considered a third culture kid. I don't have ADHD or Autism, however, always feel very different with different thought processes. Throughout my younger years, I constantly gravitated to making friends from different countries only. Does this mean I'm neurodivergent?

      Jenny. I hope this is okay and I'm not trying to take away from this person's video but I am also neurodiverse and I'm starting making a TH-cam podcast on what life looks like from the perspective of somebody that is neurodiverse. I also have other roles that I play to other Neurodiverse people. my sons are both autistic and so is my ex-husband and I'm pretty sure my dad is too. So I've grown up around it my whole life and have seen it from different roles. And one of the audiences that I thought could benefit from this is parents and teachers. it's one thing to know the technical aspects of it, this video did a great job explaining that! What I'm hoping to do is come at it more from how do we view things, what do we need from people, what troubles do we run into, what would we like people to know and how could they make things easier for us. If this is something you think you could use, I'd love to get in touch and see if it might be useful for you. I've just made the first to podcasts on my TH-cam channel.
      I have to say I'm very pleased to see all the positive comments here.

    Can we stop only talking ablout developmental conditions in regard to neurodiversity. People with aqcuired neurodivergent conditions (for example ocd, ptsd, bd, bpd, aspd, did, etc) are still neurodivergent, and should be included in conversations

    • @DifferingMinds
      @DifferingMinds  10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yes, we absolutely agree. We included just some examples of what it means to be neurodivergent, but you're right, it also includes acquired brain injuries, OCD, PTSD etc.

    We think different... That puts it mildly?It is my xperience that what our brains are capable of, represents the beta version of the complete overhauling of the human CPU and BIOS. Time and again I clash with workers in public utillities. Always because of a typical defensive attitude that gets the lead in the way a serviceprovider behaves him/herself to me when we are engaging into the mutual investigative phase of a validation assessment to determin weather we meet each other's criteria for engaging in a mutual benificial interaction.

      Hi Ben, as you say further research is being done that shows the number may be more like 1 in 5. This number is likely to change over time as we all learn more about neurodiversity. That's why we made sure to say 'approximately one in seven' in the video when it was originally made 🙂
