It is actually really easy to wind a center-pull ball of yarn by hand -- just winding around your thumb. I only recently bought a ball-winder, but I still like winding at least one ball by hand anyway. It is a wonderful way to get a good feel for the yarn and it's qualities.

I have been knitting so long that I had no choice but to buy individual needles. I now have the knit picks interchangeable set and love it!

Yes all the old needles I have from my grandma and great grandma are all straight or fixed needles, I think it’s really interesting what a significant innovation it is in a craft that’s been around for centuries!
