@GenericGamer no.227 How do you account for different technologies, environment, track and points system? (For Alonso and Jim) This was a time when a two-wheele racing champion had own F1 world title. Reliability was a far cry. Same goes for Seb and Prost, to a lesser yet significant extent. Hell, it's hard to even contemporary drivers. Ricciardo soundly beat Seb in his furst year at Redbull. Does that mean Danny Ric is better than a 4 time world champion?
@@shivamshuklaaa Thats my point. But Danny Ric beat Seb more soundly than Kvyat did to him. But yeah, it is still a good illustration of the point. Thanks for this video. When it comes to discussions about the best GP driver ever Prost rarely comes into the conversation, but that's because people confuse "the best" with "the most exciting and wild". Despite being older and already a double World Champion Prost was at least as fast, if not quicker, in race trim than Senna (except in heavy rain). Some people confuse Senna's desperation to risk it all in qualifying as some sort of proof that he was better than Prost but that is wrong. Prost operated on the basic principle that points are only awarded in the race, something he learnt from Lauda in 1984. This Top Ten covers the matter well.
@@areebsiddiqui758 Not at all. My comment is based on the assumption that most F1 fans believe that Senna is the greatest. Prost is absolutely underrated. And with it, many people say he was one of the 2 or 3 best drivers of all time. That makes clear that, if he was not underrated, Alain Prost could be easily be considered the number one driver ever by millions and millions of fans.
The greatest racing driver of all time in terms of race craft, car set-up, tyre/fuel management and tactical acumen. And also up there in terms of raw pace... his elegance behind the wheel meant he could drive at the slowest possible speed to win. In his early days, his raw speed was clear but his early experiences changed his racing philosophy, he didn't need to qualify first every time because he could race to first.
@Crixus Mauperthuis Also, as I've got older, I admire the calculated way of driving, taking fewer risks, and setting up the car for races. Very quick, but often not the outright quickest, seeing him routinely overcome other drivers with his other attributes is nice. More than one way to the top step, and Prost showed that perfectly, time and time again.
The best driver of the Golden Era. No other driver comes even close : Lauda, Piquet, Senna, Mansell, Rosberg... all beaten by the mighty Prost, no matter what car he was driving. A *living* legend.
Yes. Also Hill was a future world champion. Prost beat five world champion teammates. And he beat Senna twice if only the 1988 points system was sensible. And remember how insanely fast Rosberg was 1985 with his unreliable Williams. Was no match to Prost in 1986. No other driver has such track record. Not even close. Schumacher had only puppets and lackeys as teammates.

Both Prost and Senna were dicks, both were all time greats in their very own way and gave us one of the greatest sport rivalries we ever seen. Sad that some people can't just appreciate that.

I've always said, Prost was a better driver than Senna. To have Senna either in front of you or in your rear view mirror and not causing you to lose your cool, spoke volumes.
Hungary '88 is a worthy mention, after a poor start he was down in the midfield, loosing time stuck behind the slower cars, after systematically making his way up the order, he went on to set lap records lap after lap to catch up to Senna and fight for the lead in the closing laps, finishing a hare's breath behind him.
The Professor was also a gentleman. He was not arrogant and selfish. He didn't force others off the road or chop in front of them. Watch his races and you will see that he raced fair.
Probably the most complete driver in F1 at the time. I would have liked to see his win at Brazil in 1987 mentioned here though. He knew his car was underpowered, so set it up for minimal downforce on a track that ate tyres. This allowed him to stop only twice for tyres where most had to stop 3 times. He said it was one of his favourite and most intelligent wins...of which there were many.
One big omission from this list: 1987 Portuguese Grand Prix... eclipsing Stewart with then F-1 record 28th career win Didn't go easy on the car, drove an aggressive race... caught up to leader Berger, who then spun off the track with 2 laps to go.

"Winning a championship is a marathon, not a sprint." It was rather ironic when Hamilton uttered that phrase then soon afterwards accidentally pressed the magic button on the restart cooking the brakes and driving off the track in Baku this year. It was one of the things that costed him the championship this year.
The Professor. Greetings from Brazil! You were a great motivation to our hero, Senna.
Crixus Mauperthuis lmao
This man is criminally underrated. He was arguably on par with Senna but many fans seem to think he is some crook who used politics and connections to steer is car.
@HAL 9000 Different era. About 20 years after Prost retired, Seb started his career. I don't believe in arbitrary comparison of raceres who were in the sport in such radically diffrent timeframes. For example, Jim Clark and Alonso both have two titles....but can you truly compare the two?
@GenericGamer no.227 How do you account for different technologies, environment, track and points system? (For Alonso and Jim) This was a time when a two-wheele racing champion had own F1 world title. Reliability was a far cry. Same goes for Seb and Prost, to a lesser yet significant extent. Hell, it's hard to even contemporary drivers.
Ricciardo soundly beat Seb in his furst year at Redbull. Does that mean Danny Ric is better than a 4 time world champion?

Senna never won from outside P5.
@@shivamshuklaaa Thats my point. But Danny Ric beat Seb more soundly than Kvyat did to him. But yeah, it is still a good illustration of the point.
I mean, according to Martin Brundle, Lewis dominating the sport is just him being the best driver. And when Seb used to dominate, that was just the car being better, not his skill.🤦♂️

You do know that you can praise one without having to demean the other.
@@areebsiddiqui758 Not at all. My comment is based on the assumption that most F1 fans believe that Senna is the greatest. I'm not saying they are wrong but I'm saying that IF Senna is the greatest then Prost is in the same conversation. My favorite F1 driver. Ever. That is all.
The older I get, the more I appreciate Prost.
My GOAT, what an humble guy, proud to be french when I see a driver like Alain

A *living* legend.
Yes. Also Hill was a future world champion. Prost beat five world champion teammates. And he beat Senna twice if only the 1988 points system was sensible. And remember how insanely fast Rosberg was 1985 with his unreliable Williams. Was no match to Prost in 1986. No other driver has such track record. Not even close. Cue the absolute noobs who never watched Prost other than in the abject "Senna" movie. I saw them in their prime and huge fan of both, although I really started to appreciated Prost's style as I grew older. It's also worth mentioning that Prost was terribly affected by Pironi's accident in the rain (the latter crashed onto him, went flying and finally lost his legs), that's why he became more cautious in adverse conditions. Both Prost and Senna were dicks, both were all time greats in their very own way and gave us one of the greatest sport rivalries we ever seen. Sad that some people can't just appreciate that.
But...there can be only one.
Alain Prost. For me the best driver ever and your video sums it up nicely. Another piece of proof as to why he is the most underrated driver is that your amazing video only has 12 comments. France 1988 is one the best performance ever from a pilot.
Great selection, with clips longer than usual. No hommage is enough for the inmense driver that was Alain Prost.
Thank you so much for this video! One can learn so much from Alain's racing and driving style.
A great genius! One of the best of all times! Amazing Prost!
One big omission from this list: 1987 Portuguese Grand Prix... eclipsing Stewart with then F-1 record 28th career win
Didn't go easy on the car, drove an aggressive race... caught up to leader Berger, who then spun off the track with 2 laps to go.
Oh yes that was a fun race.
Some say he intended to spin out at the 1982 Monaco grand prix because his calculations said that it would give him the driver's championship *shrugs*, and some say his politics were terrifying, all we know is, he is called The Professor
