he had 6 times the chance to become champion and failed every time. He was a driver, that had days, where he was unbeatable - but of those, he had to few... I mean, sure, you can lose titles against Michael Schumacher, who is one of the all time greats - but losing against Jenson Button?

Its very unfair that people will compare Rubens and his time at Ferrari to Valtteri and his time at Mercedes. One was held down by the team, one was held down by pure talent. Its pretty clear to see that Valtteri could not keep up with Lewis. Turkey 2020 is the lowest point of his time there I believe. Whereas Rubens could often keep up, and sometimes was kept back from Michael. Michael is my favorite driver of all time, Rubens a close second. Its a shame he could not win with Ferrari, I wonder if Rubens and Felipe could have split titles if Michael retired for 2006.

Barrichello was a driver who deserved a lot more than this. I'm not saying he was the best of the best but he's seriously underrated driver

And his time at Stewart is so underrated, that time in the 1990's should get an honorable recognition. The owner-driver pairing between Rubens Barrichello and Jackie Stewart is how Barrichello became who he is as a driver. I wish he won a race at Stewart before moving to Ferrari.

Brawn wasn't holding him back. What Rubens says about his lack of performance compared to Jenson is that he used brakes from a different brand than the one that Button used, but it was a personal choice, it wasn't imposed by the team. After he switched to the same brakes as Jenson, he got a boost in performance, but it was already too late, the RedBulls were faster than Brawn at that time.

Finally an acknowledgment for his achievements, that first lap in the rain was as incredible as Senna’s lap. He is still a simple man even after all he achieved. 👏👏👏. PS if you like formula one analysis watch “Batendo Roda” with Reginaldo Leme, another legend.

About Donington: Barrichello stated in a podcast that there was no problem with his car: he simply ran out of fuel.
Exactly...cuz the team didn't calculate the amount of fuel they would use with the TCS acting so much
I remember that Barrichello was kind of cursed when racing at his home race in Sao Paulo, so many DNFs.
I believe everytime he was in a position to win, the car failed on him. Or at least most of the time.
People think Charles Leclerc has bad luck in Monaco but sadly, if you look up 'victim of a home race jinx' in the dictionary you'll probably find a picture of Rubens Barrichello. I mean, 9 consecutive DNFs at Interlagos, there must've been a curse!

Esse vídeo é um material valioso pra mostrar praqueles brasileiros que tanto rebaixam o valor do Rubens para o esporte. Não foi campeão mundial, mas foi um gigante na categoria.
O brasileiro médio não entende nada de porra nenhuma, mas adora dar pitaco em tudo. Isso quando não é um mero fofoqueiro, papagaio de opinião dos outros. Ao meu ver, Rubinho foi vítima de sabotagem por parte da mídia brasileira...o povo foi doutrinado a rir dele invés de apoiá-lo. Isso pra mim parece intencional, porque o Senna já tinha se tornado uma figura "maior que a mídia", não podiam correr o risco de aparecer outro brasileiro tão influente assim.
Enfim, só quem sabe sabe.

É um grande piloto! O problema aqui é que a própria emissora que transmitia a corrida tirava sarro do cara, em outro lugar colocaria o cara como ídolo! Isso talvez levaria ele pra outro patamar, em termos de patrocínio, reputação e até outra equipe de ponta. No Brasil, Babar o ovo depois de ser campeão é muito fácil, é o que a maioria da mídia faz!
Rubens Barrichello is a Brazilian hero, great driver, proportionate many moments of joy in F1, luckily we Brazilians still have the pleasure of seeing him competing here at Stock Car Brasil!
Close to 30 years watching F1 regularly and he's one of only a few drivers I genuinely got excited seeing on the podium, and sad with how he was firmly made the #2 at Ferrari.
He wasn't that innocent. He signed that contract that made him #2 and he clearly didn't have the support of the team behind him. Often outperforming Schumacher when he wasn't around, meaning the team didn't have to gamble on his strategy.
Sad for him, yes, but he also made a lot of money by being second and having a contract that exposed that.

I thought I wouldn't cry.
I began watching F1 when I was 6 and always been a Barrichello's fan, now with 31 years old I still cry watching his races. He's an amazing driver and I always felt happy watching him.
His first podium I cried watching his emotion and now I'm crying again.
Love you Rubens, you made me love this sport.

My dad used to watch F1 when I was a kid, he'd always fall asleep and I'd sometimes watch but most often wanted to watch kids stuff. But still the name Barichello sticks with me, it's one of the few drivers I knew alongside Montoya, Schumacher and Coulthard.
Now years later and I'm back as a F1 fan and I'm such a fan of the guy. I feel like he has a heart of gold and passion for the sport, and he was skilled too. A shame he never got a title, but him and Schumacher are a combo I'll never forget.

2:00 The truth (told by Rubens on Brazilians interviews today) is that the fuel was litteraly over by wrong calculation for that type of weather, not problems with fuel pressure.
Fuel-pressure issues are usually an euphemism for "ran out of fuel". Still it's weird that the team underestimated fuel calculation by a massive 10% at Donington in 1993, although admittedly, the conditions changed a lot during the race. Something similar happened to him at the 2003 Brazilian Grand Prix while he was leading.

I was there when he became Stock Car champion. He won every category he raced, but F1. He is a legend.
Rubens won the F3 title against David Coulthard... but the Scottish had the opportunities to drive for Williams and McLaren... the best cars, even though, mediocre performances... while Rubens was shining in that Jordan, almost saying "look at me!!". I just don't get it.

Definitely in my top five favorite drivers of all time ever!! I have watched F1 since 1997 and By far the most pure, honest, wholesome, humble driver. He deserved at least 2 titles.

Very underrated driver. He was much quicker than Jenson Button. But he had his reputation ruined by Ferrari's ruthless management. What a shame.
He wasn’t better than Button mate, that’s why he didn’t win the title in 2009. Rubens could have been champion but Jenson was far quicker than him that year. I swear you have a vendetta against Jenson or something.
I love Rubens but Button had him beat, he outscored him 2 of the 3 seasons that they drove together, and beat him to the WDC in 2009.

His best race imo. Those overtakes were sensational. It was a race performance any driver no matter how many wins or championships they have to their name would be proud of.
Look, JB is one of my favorite drivers of all time. But sometimes I wish that Barrichello was able to clinch the 09 title. Would have been so late in his career, and such a sweet feeling too.

1:43 Barrichello ultrapassou a Williams de Damon Hill pelo 3º lugar em Donington. É só assistir ao vídeo. Com o stall do Prost no pitstop, Rubinho foi para 2º, e a ordem ficou 1º Senna, 2º Barrichello, 3º Hill, 4º Prost. Faltou a pole com a Stewart na França, a performance no Brasil em 96, ele liderando de Jordan no Estoril em 94, e tantas outras performances superlativas antes dele cometer o erro fatal de assinar com a Ferrari. Ele teria sido múltiplo-campeão se tivessem dado a ele uma posição real de brigar por títulos. Coulthard mesmo com posição nas melhores Williams e McLaren, só entregou performances medianas (e Barrichello foi campeão da F3 em cima do escocês).
Teve chance de assinar com a McLaren, mas como o contrato não era seguro pra temporada toda, ele preferiu ficar na Jordan em 96. Uma decisão que se provou ruim com o passar dos anos, tenho certeza que ele daria mais trabalho ao Hakkinen que o Coulthard.
Na minha opinião, quem se fodeu foi a Ferrari. Em 99, se fosse o Rubinho ao invés do Irvine, ele teria sido campeão. Irvine foi derrotado 2x pelo Rubinho enquanto companheiro. É a vida
E nessa corrida da França, de Stewart, ele dá um xis numa curva no Shumacher que foi lindo. Valeu há pena acordar cedo.

As a Brazilian, even here he's still underrated. And nowadays he still is a setup and rain monster.
Barrichello overtook Damon Hill for P3 on track in Donington. Go figure. When Prost stalled he went to P2. His Pole Position in France/99 is missing. His superb performance in Brazil/96 as well. So many superlative performances before his fatal mistake of joining Ferrari. He would be multiple champion if had been given him a real POSITION to fight for titles. (Remembering Barrichello was F3 Champ against David Coulthard).
Yes, I remember back then he declined an offer to join McLaren and went to Ferrari instead. With Mika retiring he'd compete as equal with Schumacher. Of course Schumacher is better, but I still believe he'd win at the very least one WDC.

I got a PS1 for Christmas 1997 and got F1 97 as my first game.
I used to play the Stewart team mostly as they were based in my hometown Milton Keynes and Rubens was the first driver.
He became my favourite driver to watch especially in 1999 when he did amazing stuff for Stewart.
There are many more moments of brilliance that didn't translate into results in the end, but were equally impressive.
The take back on Schumacher at the hairpin in Magny Cours in 1999, the astonishing speed at fast tracks such as Spielberg (where the final result had to be arranged by the team twice), Silverstone and Monza, his second place at Montreal 1995 with Jordan, where two years later he had an over the edge performance with an unreliable Stewart, and the breathtaking overtake on Schumacher at Hungaroring 2010
