Section 2923 Ohio codes: (4) (b) The person leaves the handgun in a motor vehicle. (c) The handgun does not leave the motor vehicle. (d) If the person exits the motor vehicle, the person locks the motor vehicle.....from what I seen he kept the gun in vehicle and locked....so under Ohio code 2923 4b...he might not have violated the law?

The law doesn't do enough to protect them, so this is what it is coming to. You should be ashamed for judging this young man just for trying to stay safe. I've been a cop for almost 15 years. This high-schooler is more honest and respectful than 100% of "guilty" juveniles I've ever dealt with, though he's legally not a juvenile at the age of 18. Not once did he lie or attempt to deceive in any way and, to be honest, I commend him for sticking to his guns (no pun intended). I am unfamiliar with the law in Ohio, but after a quick Google search, according to Ohio revised code Section 2923.122, an adult in possession of a firearm within a school zone is lawful to do so if 1) the gun is left in a motor vehicle, 2) the gun does not leave the motor vehicle, and 3) the person has exited and locked the motor vehicle. Frankly, I am amazed at how he supported his claims pertaining to the law he researched, but admitted fault when not having considered school policy. Zero percent of me thinks there was any ill-intention here. I see an intelligent young man who has had some struggles but had no intension here of lying or covering up any of his actions. Major props to these officers for the utmost professionalism that was shown throughout this entire encounter. In retrospect, these school officials should be absolutely ashamed of themselves. We will never understand what it is like to be a student in this era, where being killed in a classroom is a very real and everyday threat to these kids. I really hope this young man continues to mature as an honest and upstanding member of society and sees himself into a successful adult life and future career without this causing him any hurdles or harm.

    • @vladimirlenin3942

There's no way that this footage alone tells you he isn't lying. Sociopaths and pathological liars are very believable and manipulative. He exhibited no empathy for how other students would be alarmed by the idea of another student bringing a firearm and ammo to school. At the very least, this is gross, neglectful behavior and a young adult like himself should be more aware of how his peers would feel and what he's bringing to school in his pockets.

He’s an 18 year old junior. Some issues for sure. Seems like an innocent kid but yah an 18 year old junior for sure isn’t normal. Do you know any 18 year old junior from when you were in school because I don’t. He’s failed multiple times I’m sure they’ve had years of negative history, now he brought a gun. So yah they are prob really upset with him. I don’t think he had bad intent here but still I understand the admins being hostile, they didn’t yell and still kept it professional though. I think all parties kept it reasonable and the entire thing went smoothly. It’s a .22 but still he can’t bring that to school, charging him is good call. Also, if an 18 year old has to be around 14/15 year olds all day, that can’t be doing him any better. He’s never going to mature if you hold kids back in grades. He seems very misguided and he spends most his time alone at home and then at school around kids way younger than him. He will prob be a normal adult just right now he is in a bad place. Very sad situation. But still if I had a kid in this school I would demand they arrest this guy.

I know that shootings in school are a terrible and recurring issue, and unfortunately, the kids feel the need to protect themselves because the system has failed them, however bringing a gun to school even if it's in your car, and expecting people to believe that you won't do anything wrong is obviously not how it works, I do feel for the kid because his heart seemed to be in the right place, but he had to know that having bullets with him and bringing a gun to school property is not legal.

True. I went to school in South Carolina and remember kids in high school would bring guns to school in their gun racks attached to their trucks. Nobody saw it as something awful. It was either cool or piqued curiosity. This was just back in the 90s. Back then there were still beaches where you could sleep overnight and nothing would happen. We can't do any of that anymore though.

I also believe he has some challenges when it comes to learning. It's clear as he talks to the officers. But nowhere is there malice or anger in him. I hope this whole incident doesn't adversely affect his life for years, that he gets the help he needs and that he never, ever assumes he knows all the rules when it comes to owning a gun again because it's clear he doesn't.
