No kidding I did not pick up on Teft telling kaladin to speak the words of the 4th ideal. I thought it was Dalinar that said that but oh boy was I wrong.
I love that the 4th ideal was about letting go rather than taking more on. Kaladin takes so much on already. I predicted that his brands remaining on his forehead were based on his own view of himself. I am glad he finally sees himself as worthy.
I said this in my own comment, but it was so powerful that the moment they healed was when Kal saw the shash glyph on Lirin’s head. Cause the brand was meant to show that Kal was dangerous and Lirin was treating him like shit for choosing to be a soldier
I cried multiple times when Kaladin and Tien spoke and then when Eshonai rode the storm and finally got to see the world. Jeez that stuff just rips me apart.
Can someone explain what the actual eff did Taravangian/Odium do to Wit/Hoid here? I get that he's altered something in his memory here, but what exactly?
@@mihirx27 so basically you need investiture to keep you sane. So the way Wit handles it is by putting his memories or surrounding his memories in his Breath (from Warbreaker). There seems to have been some kind of contract or oath that they can't hurt each other? But since Taravangian is manipulating the Investiture then it's fair game.
@@Allenro711 to follow on: and so now wit has lost some of his edge, presumably, which included his access to vast knowledge of the history of the shards. Though we won't know exactly what he has lost until later books.
@@thomasmiller8289 I'm pretty sure it was just the memory of the conversation and of working out that Odium wasn't Rayse anymore that got taken. The question is whether Wit noticed his memory had been changed (based on having lost the perfect pitch, meaning some of the breath/s had been excised) and/or had been expecting it to be messed with.
Navani’s line is definitely the coolest. A close second favorite for me was actually when Kaladin says “I know the words. I have always known these words.”
This series blessed us with many incredible moments my absolute favorites in order being: Kaladin's Fourth Idea - we got so much buildup and the emotional distress that Kal went through especially in this book made all the more amazing, going further with Syl not knowing them Dalinar's You cannot have my pain - just amazing buildup for the character, the realization that we need to accept the past and become better Maya's WE CHOSE - incredible moment that gives as a glimpse of the past and a promise for the future, with all the deadeyes having a chance to return Of course there are more moments but these 3 just hit different for the reasons I mentioned above and many more.
@@nathanj3528 I would prefer if he didn’t get a redemption arc, but instead has to live with the consequences of his choices. Giving him a redemption would be a bit too predictable, but I’m sure Brandon could make it the best one I’ve seen.
@@Enndorii I can see both happening, but the problem is he's already living with the consequences of his choices. Odium made him basically emotionless, but Kaladin is holding him down and is the reason for his suffering (for him). So we're seeing every scene with him; the depth of his suffering, so rhe only thing left for him is to come out of it as a new person
@@nathanj3528 The only thing left is for him to desperately try to tear Kaladin down or kill him, seemingly. Kaladin's a reminder that Moash had something good in the found family of Bridge 4 and he chose to betray it, moreover that Moash IS responsible for his actions and that giving Odium his pain and guilt doesn't cause them not to exist. He's fixed on the idea that "if I just destroy this link to how things were or could have been different, I will finally be free to be my 'true' uncaring merciless killer self." But that line of reasoning didn't work Kylo Ren either :P I do wonder if Odium might now (be able to) find ways to use Moash more intelligently than he did before.
Just remember that every time a radiant dies, he/she doesn't pass to the beyond until hours after dying. So teft saw what hapened after his death. That keeps me going.
@@ebnovels I feel like u kind of have to be an antagonist if ur backstory includes attempted genocide though(i believe leshwi tells venli about it in part 1).
I think the Persuer was so over the top and theatrical that he felt like a setup for Kaladin being badass in their final fight. It was almost annoying, in a fun way, how fuking long his threats where.
Best line in the book, "We chose" such emotional book, never cried in any of the previous Stormlight books, guess it is because you really care about the characters and they feel alive. And thats from me that care more about worlbuilding and plot :D
Navani to Moash: Journey Before Destination you bastard. OMG. That line was so cool and it was my favourite moment and next was Kaladin saying 4th ideal.
My favorite line was, "Honor is not dead so long as he lives in the hearts of men!" Edit: Notice that there was no honorspren in the dissection scene because Adolin saved Notum.
sadly there was... It's the one Dalinar saw as blue skinned from Natan Natan. It is later mentioned that honor spren were actually one of Ishar's most "successful transfers" so he wanted to get more and more of them, hence why Notum was being targeted.
There absolutely was an honorspren in the dissection scene. It was the first body they looked at, which had blue-ish skin. They at first confused them for a human from Natanan.
I think Chapter 117: One Final Gift is some of the best writing Brandon’s ever done. “She had lost the first battle. But she had WON the second.” “Farewell, Eshonai. Farewell, Radiant.” Right in the feels...
This book comes in at #2 for me behind The Way of Kings. I loved the moments in this book and overall where the story was going. Didn't think I would care about Navani so much. I hope we get more Jasnah in book 5 too. Her glimpses throughout the book for me were interesting. I also think we miss a lot of critical scenes between Adolin and Shallan. Their plot line still worked for me but I wish we saw Shallan reuniting with Testament and telling Adolin that secret. It would be nice to know what is going on in Adolin's head more since he is seemingly very accepting of a lot, but at some point, I feel like he is going to just break. Also, I believe Sanderson has said the novella between books 4 and 5 will be called Horneater, which makes me think we will get Rock's story going home in that book. Thank you for these videos going over each part!
@@LandoftheMadmen I think his motives are related with the Horneater society and their customs. He was supposed to be judged by his actions at the end of Oathbringer, so it could be something drastic as him being executed (I don't think it would be, tho), exiled (which could go with your theory as him beign exiled out of Roshar through the perpendicularity) or something more in the vein of Rock becoming a "servant" of his people and not allowed to leave the Peaks. I know I'm really excited to know more about what happend to our favorite not-airsick highlander
Didnt Rock go to die? As punishment for saving Kaladin. They said his people will either lock him up for life or kill him. I assumed this wording at the funeral was a sad way of telling us they went with the latter
OHHH i thought it was cuz dalinar opens the perpendicular. But you have to be close when another person tells the oath for him to be coherent? may be both factors helped...
Oh, I think this last part of the book, (all the Kaladin sequence that leads to the 4th ideal), is my favourite part of the whole series. Tien speaking to him, Dalinar saying "your words are accepted", the scars finally healing... It has so many meaningful things for Kaladin going on and it's so well written! I mean, I didn't love Kaladin this much since WoK. He really shone in this book and I'm so happy for it! Another of my favourite moments in this book was the Dog and the Dragon chapter. It made me feel warm. And might sound weird, but I'm very excited about Taravangian being Odium! 👏 Rayse was starting to feel dumb, so I'm happy we're finally getting the villain The Stormlight Archive deserves. Also, I'm scared... 😅
I think, if anyone takes up Honor's Shard, it'll be Kaladin, not Dalinar. The Stormfather calls Kaladin the Child of Tanavast, not Dalinar; and I think that's for a reason!
@@henrywayne5724 If I’m not mistaken Sanderson himself specified that being called Son of Tanavast is something completetely different from the title of Son of Honor, which has actually been far more commonly used throughout the series so far while Kal’s the only one who’s been bestowed the Tanavast-honorific by the Stormfather
@@gianlulag Huh...I had NO IDEA he said that. But if that's the case, then Kaladin could be having big things coming for him, because he is the only one called Son Of Tanavast in the book.
Chapter 103 absolutely demolished me. Teft’s character arc blossomed so beautifully over the four books and, at the end of 103, all I thought of was Teft’s third ideal and arriving at the battle at the end of book 3. I. Freaking. Sobbed.
There were so many great moments in this book! I got choked up multiple times. Tien and Kaladin talking, Teft's final words, etc. It was just all so good. But I also just love Wit's quote about “but then it will get better. Then it will get worse again. Then better. This is life, and I will not lie by saying every day will be sunshine. But there will be sunshine again, and that is a very different thing to say. That is truth. I promise you, Kaladin: You will be warm again.” Such a perfect way of explaining something.
I feel like not nearly enough people are talking about Ishar. This book had so many great moments but never did I actually fear for a character more than when Ishar started stealing Stormdaddy. Casually fends off 5 Radiants and then starts Connecting them to the planet itself! Then just reaches over and starts stealing the stormfather. I had genuine fear for Dalinar in that moment alongside aw. And then Nightblood CHIPPING an Honourblade! Such a big moment that sadly got lost in all the other amazing moments happening. As for a favourite moment, that's a tough one. But I'd have to go with the ending. I've come to expect a lot from Wit monologues and this one did not disappoint at all
Yea I was gonna say - the show down with Ishar made me feel genuine stomach curdling fear! The way he so easily disarmed them all and even took the Stormfather by surprise made me realise how out of their depth they all are!
I think Sanderson leaving out the scene of Shallan revealing the truth to Adolin is genius. She was so obsessed with him rejecting who she was when she told him the truth, but it was such a non-thing for him that it didn’t even make it into the book. He loves her and accepts who she is. I love their relationship.
Yeah guess. Adolin literally is the prince charming trope and he killed sadeus so I doubt he'll give a crap about her killing iale. He like 70% of the characters has daddy issues so I was never overly fond of him.
That moment where Dalinar was thinking back to the time in the warcamps when Kaladin's men refused to believe he had died, that was actually a reference to Words of Radiance Part 4 (not book 1) where Kaladin and Shallan fell into the chasms and Dalinar was like "oops they dead" and Kaladin's men were like "haha nice try".
Raboniel and Navani are so well matched. They had such different beliefs and goals, but they could also respect each other, as scholars, as leaders, as mothers. I love seeing the humanity in the “bad guy”.
Does anyone else maybe think that Timbre could be Eshonai? That’s the impression I got from the ending, especially this passage: “So... this is my soul?” SOME WOULD CALL IT THAT...SOME WOULD SAY IT IS A SPREN FORMED BY THE POWER YOU LEFT, IMPRINTED WITH YOUR MEMORIES. That would also make Timbre’s reaction to Venli reuniting with Jaxlim make more sense, idk just a theory. I loved this book so much.
--- Spoilers --- I guessed Thaidakar's identity when Mraize implied he was trying to find a way to leave his home planet. And I kinda wish it wasn't confirmed so expliticly near the end. Just like you said, I felt clever for once😂
@@shannonharkin6409 Ah too true. I kept getting distracted by the screen reflecting in the corners of her glasses making the purple/blue match the word 'WorldHoppers'
@@ebnovels it's good don't worry. I always feels sad when I finish a book/game to a point sometimes I numb myself to their story a read it as a third person. This gave me some of that emotions back. Thank you.
My heart leapt into my throat when I read the passage about Rock! I calmed down after reminding myself that Brandy Sandy wouldn’t kill such an important character off-screen, but the way that was worded seemed so ominous. I’m also intrigued about the implications of the spren experiments in the physical realm and how that will play out in later books. You made great points that I haven’t heard many others chat about. I was an emotional wreck for the majority of part 5, so I personally loved hearing you express that! I was already sobbing about Teft, and then the scene with Tien just sent me. I had no idea what the 4th ideal would be, and in hindsight I feel silly for not expecting it. I’m happy that I didn’t guess it though because I feel that it made this scene all the more powerful and emotional for me. We have watched Kaladin struggle since the very first book over people he couldn’t save, so this was just *chefs kiss*. Great wrap up to the series, and I look forward to watching more videos from you 🙂
Finally caught up on this video, having finished the book yesterday :D I just want to say thanks for dancing around that big spoiler at the end, as even though I'm caught up on all of the Cosmere, I haven't made that connection when reading. You prompted me to re-read that scene and I realised what the spoiler was almost immediately. Thanks for making me squeeze even more enjoyment out of this phenomenal ending. To me, this is the best Stormlight book and one of the very best books I've ever read. I echo all of your praise AND I also like Adolin and find him relatable, so I have enjoyed the Shadesmar sequence as much as the Urithiru stuff ;)
I absolutely loved Navani's line that you said was your favourite, but the one that stuck with me for an entirely different reason was "I promise you, Kaladin: You will be warm again" from Wit at the end of The Dog and the Dragon. That passage and that line just hit me so hard, I keep tearing up every time I read/think about them
My theory on the spren experiments is that he wants to figure out how to fully pull himself back into the physical realm so he can straight up leave the system and get away.
I'm just now finding your channel after finishing Rhythm of War and ill be staying for squeaks and squeals. I always try to watch a summary after the book to make sure I dont miss anything and this was my favorite. I like the "Chat" format and getting into the details. :)
Just watched your recap on Storm Light today. This series is my I introduction to the cosmere and I wanted to say I super appreciate your emphasis on not spoiling other books in the cosmere. I have started so many review videos about Storm Light and have had to immediately leave because so many people start talking about the other books right off the bat. So thank you very much! Cant wait to get into the rest of the cosmere.
navani swearing her first ideal was an amazing line, but "I accept that there will be those I cannot protect!" was actually perfect kaladin is my favorite character of all time, and hearing him finally say that (along with the rest of that beautiful chapter) was the best possible thing for his character and i loved it so much
Thanks for all the spoilers chat.. it was so much fun.. going through comments and people's reactions/predictions.. More like a buddy reading with such an awesome community 😊❤️👍
I was meh on all the flashbacks but that last Eshonai chapter made it all worth it. All these plot points: Eshonai exploring, Dalinar asking the Stormfather to show mercy, and the rhythms of Roshar come together. It makes sense why Timbre was looking for her in the first place; Eshonai is the embodiment of freedom that the Willshapers hold as their ideal.
I started reading Stormlight just last year so finally I'm caught up and I've been watching SO many spoiler talk videos trying to find mention of the "spren experiments" and you're the only one I've found to mention this! So crazy to me that not everyone's talking about it. It gave me chills reading this chapter and it feels so dark and disturbing! Nothin better to say from me except WTF haha
I cried like 4 times during part 5! Navani’s and Raboniel’s relationship was everything I never knew I needed. Kaladin has been through so much, that scene with Tien had me bawling.
I read the part about Rock and freaked out thinking it meant he'd DIED!!! Then someone pointed out that Rock is the likely character for the 4.5 novella so it was a huge relief XD
*SPOILERS AND SWEARING* Oh god, this last part of the book had me just outright sobbing so many times. I had felt that Teft was going to die this book and this was the main reason I considered that Kaladin could legitimately become Odium's champion. I cried so much when he died and the scene where Kaladin first reacts to seeing Teft dead. The scene with Tien also had me sobbing onto my book. Quite a few pages of my book have smeared ink because of all crying it made me do 😭. I have to say that my favourite phrase in the book is from The Dog and the Dragon chapter in part 4, really my favourite paragraph, where Wit leads up to the "You will be warm again" line. I've fought with severe chronic depression for more than 20 years and that paragraph hit me so hard because of it. When I'm in the depths of an episode of severe, numbing, deadening depression I can't even remember what it feels like not to be in such a state, even with meds. It takes other people helping me remember. That's what Wit does for Kaladin here, and even just writing about it is making me cry 😭😭😭. On a happier note, my favourite, non-emotional part of the book is the entire interaction between Wit and Design in this chapter. When Wit say, "This is a dream, idiot, it's not real." and Design pipes in with, "I'm real! Not imaginary at all! Unfortunately, I am irrational! Ha ha!" it brought me so much joy on soooo many levels 🤣. The play on this being a very real dream sequence (probably taking place on Braize), the fact that Cryptics' true names are numbers and that Design is actually talking about her name being a Real number, not an Imaginary number (the square root of a negative number for those of you not in the math loop), AND that her name is in fact an Irrational number (a number that cannot be expressed as a fraction, for those of you that don't remember, and has a decimal expansion onto infinity). She's having this wonderful side commentary that is founded in the actual conversation between Wit and Kaladin, but is going off on a tangent about something only loosely related through the semantics of homonyms. It's a beautiful piece of humour that exhibits exactly how my mind works and the weird little tangents I go on and find hilarious; a joke/tangent often not followed by others in the conversation 😭. If anyone wants more math humour, look up Bo Burnham's song "New Math" or Stand-Up Maths on TH-cam! With regards to the scene where Taravangian kills Rayse and becomes Odium's vessel, my reaction was: HOLYFUCKINGSHITIWASAFRAIDOFTHIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! With the nature of Nightblood's level of Investiture, I believe there had been a WOB where he commented on Nightblood not being powerful enough to destroy a Shard but said RAFO about the vessel and, as such, this fed further theory crafting in the community about Nightblood's ability to kill a vessel. An important note: Nightblood hasn't always been this powerful but has grown in power. This means that he doesn't destroy Investiture like anti-void/storm/lifelights or consume it into some void of uselessness, but instead consumes it and adds it to his power. Think about how much Investiture it must have consumed in killing Rayse and how much its power has grown as a result. While Brandon has commented in the past about Nightblood not being able to destroy a Shard, it may be able to do so in the future. As soon as Taravangian started obsessing of the sword and manipulating Szeth this god damn scene is what I was so afraid of. He will most likely be a much more dangerous threat than Rayse ever could have been as Odium's vessel. I can't help but feel the Cultivation fucked up real hard here. By her own admission, Taravangian becoming a "better" vessel for, and better able to deal with and not be influenced by, Odium was her hope and really only had a chance of success. I hope she has another contingency plan aside from Lift becoming her new vessel to prevent her from being Shattered should TOdium kill her current vessel, because I think she could have just doomed every other Shard in the Cosmere. Also, while I definitely buy into the TOdium, DHonour, and LCultivation theory, I'm more convinced than ever that Dalinar is either going to become a combination of Honor and Odium, Honour and Odium and Cultivation, OR basically reforge Adonalsium by the end of the second half of the Stormlight archive. In Oathbringer where Dalinar says "I am Unity.", Odium's reaction of "No, I killed you!" is a misdirection. Rayse is obviously panicked and his mind immediately jumps to Honor, but the fact that Unity is so capitalized indicates to me the likelyhood of that being the name of a newly created multi-Shard entity like Harmony on Scadrial. That being said, I think this is foreshadowing, not Dalinar already combining two Shards. I think we can all finally agree at this point that the leader of the Ghostbloods is Kelsier's cognitive shadow. Theory. Fucking. Proven! "Lord of Scars"? He is the ONLY Cosmere character with such a pseudonym. Of fucking course he became the leader of another secret society/cult/religion 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. On that note, this book was such a treasure trove of Cosmere lore, like the names of more Shards and Harmony's lore dumping, at least two Feruchemists on Roshar, AND an actual method to DESTROY Investiture! That single piece of lore is literally world-breaking for the Cosmere. It makes sense with matter and anti-matter in real life, so likely there's also a light and anti-light asymmetry in the Cosmere, similar to how our unviserse is able to exist, so who knows if ALL Investiture could ever be destroyed, but HOLYFUCKINGSHITWTF. This seems to me like this is potentially either BEYOND Shattering OR is related to the process by which Shards can be Shattered. My heart goes out for Navani and her Imposter Syndrome. I love Raboniel's character for helping her through it mostly, and will always hold a special anatagonist-place in my literature-heart lol. I could literally write a few papers on this book so I'll end it here, but damn! What a great book. I think this is my favourite book throughout the Cosmere anthology as a whole, but if Sanderson keeps this up it likely won't remain so!
My favourite line in the book probably has to be "We! CHOSE!". That whole buildup section of Maya screaming, screeching and literally struggling with all the unfairness, with the fact that if she doesn't tell the truth not just for Adolin, but even for herself, it's gonna doom all of humanity... this got me shivers down the spine. I was both crying and having massive goosebumps throughout this whole part, I felt like I could almost hear and feel Maya's struggle that finally ended with her managing to deal with all the difficulty of speaking. This was something else. As for second and third most favourite parts/lines, it has to be Kal's 4th Ideal and Navani's 1st ideal ofc. But I don't know which of them would be second and which one third.
Just finished the book myself, and I was looking around to see other people's takes and breakdowns to see if I missed things, and I came across your stuff. Quite enjoyed the listen. Subscribed.
@@ebnovels I liked your breakdown and hearing how moments impacted you. I listened to the audiobook while at work. @@ebnovels out of curiosity, and maybe this would be answered if I delved farther back into your videos, but looking at your shelves behind you I've noticed several I've read or are on my list. But why is Golden Son in backwards?
I’ve never cried at a book before, but I shed a tear three time’s throughout this book. Firstly when Maya stood up for adolin and then the Kal and Tien scene leading in to Kal seeing the brand on Lirin’s forehead and that finally being when his brands healed. Especially given his and Lirin’s conflict and the fact that the shash brand meant dangerous, that scene was so damn good
Book 5 fanfic: Dalinar learns he can open a perpendicularity to different universes by just stretching his hands out a little more, and pulls in someone from elsewhere to battle Nale. Nale: "Really? With *your* lack of investiture? You're no Fused. You're no Radiant. And you're *certainly* no Herald. You're just human." Lan: "I'm not here to meme. I'm here to kill you." Nale: "Ok, that sounds like a reference, and I don't get it, and that's unfair."
Rhythm of War fixed a major issue that I had with Oathbringer that I hadn't released til a recent read. Everyone felt too convenient for the cast and almost felt invulnerable at the end. It took quite a bit of tension out of that final battle. That's not the case with Stormlight 4. Nor does it seem it will be an issue going forward. The cast felt so vulnerable in this book and this made the big emotional moments hit even harder.
Great review and video...and so many great comments already. So I just wanted to say that I loved how much you shared your emotional reaction to this book. I will not pick a favorite in the series because I really love them all but this book was so emotional for me...had me in tears (happy and sad) in so many scenes. So many moments and lines that were incredibly well written. Thank you for doing all of these discussions!
The scene from book three where Teft swears the third ideal just absolutely broke me!!! And I had such hope for him at the end of this book…. His death scene made me bawl like a baby.. just KNOWING how Kaladin would react because of his need to save everyone. And then Kaladin swearing the 4th ideal and his conversation with Tien… I just completely lost it at that point. I was reading it out loud with my mom and I had to take a break cause I couldn’t continue through my sobbing 😭 I absolutely LOVE this series! And I cannot wait to see what Brandon has in store for book 5! I’m a little irritated that the release got pushed back but I suppose it will just be that much more satisfying when it gets here :)
So happy you pointed out the "Say it, lad!" part that was Teft. The scene was so emotional, but this tiny bit THAT DIDN'T EVEN HAVE A NAME TAG just broke me.
This was such a fun series of chats, thank you! I definitely agree that there is something more going on with Rock's situation that has yet to be revealed. Fave moments... Yeah Tien "you're good enough, for *me*". Hoo boy 😢
I forgot to mention this in my other comment and I haven’t seen this brought up anywhere- Does anyone else think there will be any significance in later books to the Shin man that calls himself 16 in Shadesmar? Maybe Szeth’s dad is not dead but in hiding? Something more?
I love your hair! (not simping :D ) EDIT: That IS the coolest line, I'm actually the person that added the quote on Goodreads. :D EDIT2: I'd say this is my second favorite behind WoR and just edging out WoK.
Thanks for making this series, it's like a read along without the commitment and i love having this place to just dump some thoughts. I'd argue Navani's line is the best in all books! I wish this part came with a chopping onions warning cause god damn after i managed to hold it back for Teft, the scene with Tien just broke the dam! And in my eyes Lirin is forgiven. There's just so much to unpack.... I know a lot of people have been critical of this book, but i think it's my favorite of the series so far. I loved the pacing, i loved the characters, i loved how much emotion it caused me to feel, i loved all the questions it posed, all the answers and omg all the cosmere bits, and i didn't really mind the flashbacks either, though i could also do without them. I do wish we could have gotten that convo between Shalan and Adolin though. Cosmere spoilers ahead...maybe My first instinct at the wtf moment was hemalurgy. I don't see the logic and i'm probably wrong, but that's what my brain came up with. Also...i needed this book to realise some Mistborn Era 2 connections to Elantris....they had the same type of cube, right?
I had always thought that Gavilar had stored his soul in one of his weird spheres and would be Odium's champion but, now that we know about the anti-investiture spheres, and that Heralds can't be contained in them, I'm less confident in this theory.
I'm torn on whether or not Lift will become Cultivation. On the one hand, both other occasions where we know that Cultivation interfered with the night mother, are Dalinar, soon to be Honor, and Tod. Clearly there are parallels here, the problem is that I really don't see how Lift embodies Cultivation. The other 2 were pretty clear. As for the spren experiments, I think it's presumably related to the fact that Spren and Heralds are similar in the fact that they are cognitive entities. I think Ishar is trying to find a safe way to pull a spren into the physical realm, with a real physical body, as a prelude to doing the same to himself. Perhaps to let him get off planet, perhaps he thinks that he can escape some of the insanity that Cognitive shadows face if he has a true physical form? As for Thaidakar, I had (correctly) guessed at his identity before, but I thought it was a long shot :P And Tod learning to manipulate memories stored in investiture is terrifying. I'm hoping that he is new enough to his powers that all he could do at the time was erase memories, imagine the damage he could cause if he altered Hoids memories, the same way ruin altered memories stored in copperminds?
I'm not crying over a review of a book I already read, you are crying.
Truly. I don’t think I got this emotional while reading as much I got watching this chat
Hahah same here, plus now reading some comments, eyes get wet.

"Journey before destination" feels even better when you realize those where the words Elhokar didn't say before Moash killed him.
Ahh, stop it! 😭😭😭
The amount of detail in the stormlight archive kills me
This is a big part of what had me both celebrating and crying at that line 😭😭😭
Yes! Exactly!!! Great point!
I love that the 4th ideal was about letting go rather than taking more on. Kaladin takes so much on already. I predicted that his brands remaining on his forehead were based on his own view of himself. I am glad he finally sees himself as worthy.
Yeah, I think a lot of us were with you thinking that would happen! But man, it still got me when it did 😭
I said this in my own comment, but it was so powerful that the moment they healed was when Kal saw the shash glyph on Lirin’s head. Cause the brand was meant to show that Kal was dangerous and Lirin was treating him like shit for choosing to be a soldier
❤✊️
I didn’t love the flashbacks in this book as a whole, but the very last flashback with Stormfather and Eshonai was incredibly touching.
I love all the flashbacks and most especially the last one! You're right! It's so touching. It reminded me a bit of Sazed's transcendence.
I cried multiple times when Kaladin and Tien spoke and then when Eshonai rode the storm and finally got to see the world. Jeez that stuff just rips me apart.

The epilogue is actually terrifying. It PHYSICALLY affected me.

😭😭😭
For me it was "WE. CHOSE!"
Yes! I loved this step after Kal COULDN'T say them in his grief at the end of Oathbringer. 😭
@@MKTraxel He could have said them aloud, but he couldn't MEAN them until that conversation about moments.
This series blessed us with many incredible moments my absolute favorites in order being:
Kaladin's Fourth Idea - we got so much buildup and the emotional distress that Kal went through especially in this book made all the more amazing, going further with Syl not knowing them
Dalinar's You cannot have my pain - just amazing buildup for the character, the realization that we need to accept the past and become better
Maya's WE CHOSE - incredible moment that gives as a glimpse of the past and a promise for the future, with all the deadeyes having a chance to return
Of course there are more moments but these 3 just hit different for the reasons I mentioned above and many more.
If Moash does not die in the next book. I am personally going to worldhop and set things straight.
I think moash has a story arc deep into the back five books.
I'm expecting a redemption arc
He's fixed on the idea that "if I just destroy this link to how things were or could have been different, I will finally be free to be my 'true' uncaring merciless killer self." But that line of reasoning didn't work Kylo Ren either :P I do wonder if Odium might now (be able to) find ways to use Moash more intelligently than he did before.
i am 31 years old and Kaladin talking to Tien again just ruined me. It was my favorite part of the whole series
Also 31 year old dude and yep, I can testify that I was literally sobbing on this part. Had to pause after that and take it in.
Stop it, both of you! 😭😭😭
I actually sobbed from Moments onwards through the entire rest of the audiobook. What a scene. Tearing up now just thinking about it.
I'm 27 and my roommate walked in the room when I was on this part and I had tears running down my face
@@mercurydylan899 haven't cried that much in years
Just remember that every time a radiant dies, he/she doesn't pass to the beyond until hours after dying. So teft saw what hapened after his death. That keeps me going.
Wasn’t his bond broken when Moash/Vyre killed his spren? Would he still have seen what was happening?
Shallan: I'm in the Ghostbloods and have been lying to you for over a year
Adolin:..... honestly this is more or less on-brand for us. Sure-moving on.
Reminds me of Vin and Elend in the Mistborn series, where a similar moment happens in the second book.
Honestly raboniel was such a good antagonist that both the persuer and moash seemed lame in comparison.
Haha, they were cool, but she was a hero!
@@cameronbradley8390 I mean I don't blame her for trying for the genocide if it prevents infinite suffering
She's way more of a dynamic character with complex emotions and motivations where as the other two are very much one dimensional bad guy types.
Both so good!!! 😄😄😄
My favorite line was, "Honor is not dead so long as he lives in the hearts of men!"
Edit: Notice that there was no honorspren in the dissection scene because Adolin saved Notum.
Definitely a great line!!!
sadly there was... It's the one Dalinar saw as blue skinned from Natan Natan. It is later mentioned that honor spren were actually one of Ishar's most "successful transfers" so he wanted to get more and more of them, hence why Notum was being targeted.
@@JZef My bad. Yeah, I remember now.
There absolutely was an honorspren in the dissection scene. It was the first body they looked at, which had blue-ish skin. They at first confused them for a human from Natanan.
this line reminded me so much of Miracle on 34th Street 😂
Thanks for the lovely comment! I also have this one and WoK at the top, and I’m SO EXCITED to have a Rock novella 😄
Navani's line is the equivalent of Molly Wesley's line, "Not my daughter, you *****!"
YES
I had the same thought!
"But you see, he can't take our moments, our Connection, Kaladin. And those are the things that really matter."
Ishar could!
Odium could take those moments
What’s crazy is that kals fourth ideal is literally what lirin has always been trying to teach him that you can’t save everyone.
That's why he said I've know the lines I've always Known them ! 😭
2 minutes of silence for Teft please.
What a hero!
The Rock thing will probably be cleared up on a Novella that Sanderson said he wants to write. Maybe we'll get it before book 5
I feel like everyone knew about this novella but me 😂
Maybe rock isn't coming back because he becomes a world hoper by the and will end of the novella, and he shows up in mistborm era 3.
The way he kills the pursuer is probably my favorite finishing move of all time
Ishar got coherent when Navani swore the oath. He mentions a Bondsmith oath has been spoken and that bondsmiths are all connected
Nah, the villain The Stormlight Archive deserved died defying Odium and Moash. Raboniel was brilliant.
I think, if anyone takes up Honor's Shard, it'll be Kaladin, not Dalinar. The Stormfather calls Kaladin the Child of Tanavast, not Dalinar; and I think that's for a reason!
The Nightwatcher also calls Dalinar Son Of Honor, but she also calls him Son Of Odium.
@@henrywayne5724 I'd forgotten about that! Thanks for the reminder!
@@henrywayne5724 Yeah, exactly
Chapter 103 absolutely demolished me. Teft’s character arc blossomed so beautifully over the four books and, at the end of 103, all I thought of was Teft’s third ideal and arriving at the battle at the end of book 3. I. Freaking. Sobbed.
I think this is my favorite SA book. I just loved this
I love it too! Up there with WoK for me :D
Just finished last night. Perfect timing.
I loved the conclusion of Eshonai's arc. I didn't like how her story "ended" in WoR.
I know, this was so stupid beautiful 😭
There were so many great moments in this book! I got choked up multiple times. Tien and Kaladin talking, Teft's final words, etc. It was just all so good. But I also just love Wit's quote about “but then it will get better. Then it will get worse again. Then better. This is life, and I will not lie by saying every day will be sunshine. But there will be sunshine again, and that is a very different thing to say. That is truth. I promise you, Kaladin: You will be warm again.” Such a perfect way of explaining something.
"Tell yourself that lie, Moash, but know this. You can kill me, but you always sucked! You always sucked, man!"
- Elliot's last words
Kaladin: "Moash is cool, he's my best friend"
Elliot Brooks: "No that dude sucks"
She’s like the mom who warns kids before high school to watch who you hang out with😂
Surprised you didn't mention that Szeth and Kaladin are going on a road trip next book.
trip to Shinovar less goo
Navani being mrs.weasley is the best line..i agree😂😂
Oh! And Bridger of Minds is like the coolest title ever.
He like 70% of the characters has daddy issues so I was never overly fond of him.
our boy Kal is no longer a slave :’)
Stop! 😭😭😭
No longer a slave to his past
kaladin swearing the fourth oath is - to me - the best scene in stormlight so far. So well written, so emotional and feels so intimate.
I thought syl being full sized was to honor Teft's spren because she preferred being full sized.
Came on here to say the same thing.
--- Spoilers ---
I guessed Thaidakar's identity when Mraize implied he was trying to find a way to leave his home planet. And I kinda wish it wasn't confirmed so expliticly near the end. Just like you said, I felt clever for once😂

@@ebnovels it's good don't worry. I always feels sad when I finish a book/game to a point sometimes I numb myself to their story a read it as a third person. This gave me some of that emotions back. Thank you.
I wrote 1 note in this entire book and it was just "OMFG!!!" Next to Navani's epic line!
Great wrap up to the series, and I look forward to watching more videos from you 🙂
Sanderson isn't killing Rock, so I wasn't afraid. He's writing a novella about him called Horneater
Thank you! And that Tien scene, oh my gosh 😭
Finally caught up on this video, having finished the book yesterday :D
I just want to say thanks for dancing around that big spoiler at the end, as even though I'm caught up on all of the Cosmere, I haven't made that connection when reading.
I didn't cry at all reading this section, but now I'm tearing up listening to you talk about it.
Ah, makes sense!
The 17th Shard's "Rhythm of War Reactions 2" podcast has a nice discussion about Ishar's experiments (at 1:06:00)
Thanks for that
I was thinking no one was discussing that
Same here... I still need to watch that episode. Glad someone is talking about it.
Omg I love this book soo much

I'm just now finding your channel after finishing Rhythm of War and ill be staying for squeaks and squeals. I always try to watch a summary after the book to make sure I dont miss anything and this was my favorite. I like the "Chat" format and getting into the details. :)
Just watched your recap on Storm Light today. This series is my I introduction to the cosmere and I wanted to say I super appreciate your emphasis on not spoiling other books in the cosmere. I have started so many review videos about Storm Light and have had to immediately leave because so many people start talking about the other books right off the bat. So thank you very much! Cant wait to get into the rest of the cosmere.
navani swearing her first ideal was an amazing line, but "I accept that there will be those I cannot protect!" was actually perfect
kaladin is my favorite character of all time, and hearing him finally say that (along with the rest of that beautiful chapter) was the best possible thing for his character and i loved it so much
The creepy dead spren... the only thing I thought of was Hemalurgy, but I have no idea, but it seemed like trying to take their powers through blood.
Thanks for all the spoilers chat.. it was so much fun.. going through comments and people's reactions/predictions.. More like a buddy reading with such an awesome community 😊❤️👍
I really wish I could watch the video orread the comments but spoilers. Here to help the algorithm.
I think the spren expiriments might be to "complete" a cognitive shadow in order for Ishar to take up Honor's Shard
Or for Thaidakar to live again.
Also top moment for me was shallans final moments with Vale. That made me cry
Lady of pain was so unexpected she became my favorite character in this book, i loved her
I cried like 4 times during part 5! Navani’s and Raboniel’s relationship was everything I never knew I needed. Kaladin has been through so much, that scene with Tien had me bawling.
I also think Kaladin and Syl will be a couple.
Shallan and Adolin are the Backstreet Boys soundtrack "AsLongAsYouLoveMe" on repeat :-D
Hahaha, their theme song
U kno when Kaladin was talkin to Tian..... i keep imagining a young Teft sitting cross legged and back to back with a blue colored woman.....
I read the part about Rock and freaked out thinking it meant he'd DIED!!! Then someone pointed out that Rock is the likely character for the 4.5 novella so it was a huge relief XD
It doesn’t rule out him having died.
There is absolutely zero chance Rock dies off-camera.
*SPOILERS AND SWEARING*
Oh god, this last part of the book had me just outright sobbing so many times.
Your summary sums up everything I loved about this book!!!
❤️❤️❤️
Your summary is extremely good
Wait who are the two feruchemists?
That was a really good line, but I think Kaladin saying "I am death incarnate Defeated One, and I've finally caught up to you" was pretty hard core
I've had so much fun watching these spoiler chats!
What a sweet channel! Only with your help I can learn English well❣️
Ms. Brooks, you absolutely nailed this review! 👍🔥👏
When these books are so massive you have to make a spoiler chat a 5 part series! Love your work Elliot thanks for sharing.
Now I need Jasnah in the next book to be like "Life before death BITCHEEEEES"
Lift becoming a Shard is honestly terrifying...
Gosh I know although her gain intelligence as becoming a shard might make me like her more
If she becomes people won't have anything to eat. She's gonna steal the food
You rock Elliot. Just finished the book and LOVED watching this
I love all 4 of the stormlight books but this one might be my favorite. It made me cry twice.
This was my personal favorite last act in the entire series. Over all I still think I like WoR the most but this one is a very close second.
Yessss!!!! The 4th ideal!!!

You're just human."
Lan: "I'm not here to meme. I'm here to kill you."
Nale: "Ok, that sounds like a reference, and I don't get it, and that's unfair."
I was reading it out loud with my mom and I had to take a break cause I couldn’t continue through my sobbing 😭
I absolutely LOVE this series!
Hoo boy 😢
I definitely cried the hardest at Kaladin "protecting" those with chronic depression and PTSD. It is so beautiful, real, and healing. 😭♥️💔♥️😭
I forgot to mention this in my other comment and I haven’t seen this brought up anywhere- Does anyone else think there will be any significance in later books to the Shin man that calls himself 16 in Shadesmar? Maybe Szeth’s dad is not dead but in hiding? Something more?
Pretty sure he was actually from elantris, and not shin
I love your hair! (not simping :D )
EDIT: That IS the coolest line, I'm actually the person that added the quote on Goodreads. :D
EDIT2: I'd say this is my second favorite behind WoR and just edging out WoK.
Cosmere spoilers ahead...maybe
My first instinct at the wtf moment was hemalurgy. I don't see the logic and i'm probably wrong, but that's what my brain came up with.
Also...i needed this book to realise some Mistborn Era 2 connections to Elantris....they had the same type of cube, right?
Leaving Teft alive after killing his spren would have been a thousand times worse. Good of Moash to reunite them :^)
I totally agree! I’d rather both live but if one dies I want the other to die too.
I literally bawled when Kaladin said the 4th ideal. The last time I bawled like this was when Elend and Vin died in THOA.
Can confirm, that was very sad but you might want to put a spoiler warning on that bomb
I had always thought that Gavilar had stored his soul in one of his weird spheres and would be Odium's champion but, now that we know about the anti-investiture spheres, and that Heralds can't be contained in them, I'm less confident in this theory.
No but imagine if Dalinar is waiting for odium's champion to come up. And gavilar pulls up. Big huge oof.
As for Thaidakar, I had (correctly) guessed at his identity before, but I thought it was a long shot :P
And Tod learning to manipulate memories stored in investiture is terrifying. I'm hoping that he is new enough to his powers that all he could do at the time was erase memories, imagine the damage he could cause if he altered Hoids memories, the same way ruin altered memories stored in copperminds?
Oh yes, Eshonais final chapter! I loved it so much, and really appreciated and loved all the endings :D
RUN FROM ME!
Was my favorite line.
