- Going to Sturgis this year? I've created a couple of full day rides you will want to take if you're going to to Sturgis. The Black Hills has probably some of the best motorcycle riding in the country. The struggle is, how to take advantage of the riding if you have a limited time. Well, I outlined what I believe are the best rides to take while visiting Sturgis. These included going to Mt. Rushmore, Iron Mountain Road, Custer State Park, Needles Highway, Devil's Tower, Spearfish Canyon, and Deadwood.

Very informative video. I'm riding out and back from Ohio to Sturgis this year on my 05 Road King. Making the trip via the Chicago suburbs where I'll join up with two friends I've known since 4th and 5th grade and will be staying out in Spearfish. I'm 54 years old and this is a life dream of mine about to come true. I have spent a lot of time researching and watching videos and stuff about which rides are the really iconic ones and you certainly hit those two nails on the head. I was trying to figure out exactly how to approach the Needles HWY and Iron Mtn. Rd. trip. I originally had the two as two trips because I was going to take the wildlife loop rd. all the way down and around to the town of Custer, and then I was gonna go see Crazy Horse, before finally reaching Rushmore. But I think if I do it the way you did it sounds like I still get to see Buffalo and I can do both in one day as one trip. I wasn't sure the highly unfinished Crazy Horse monument was really worth doing, anyway if I'm being honest. I know people love it and all that but I only have so much time and we have about 800 miles of day trips planned. I would add that it appears that the Badlands ride is also super cool and we are totally doing that ride. From Spearfish that's another long day.

May I suggest an alternative day #1 route? Great, thanks. Rather than jumping on 90 out of Sturgis, take 14a through Boulder Canyon into Deadwood. From Deadwood jump on 385, which is a beautiful stretch of road. 385 will take you past Lake Pactola and Hill City, which is a nice little town with a couple of really good restaurants. Continue to Needles Hwy.

I prefer to ride Iron Mountain Road in the other direction. That way, as you drive through the tunnels, you can see Rushmore in front of you in the distance.

This year, The Wife and I are going to take off from San Diego on 8/3 and push straight through. We will arrive on 8/4 and stay until 8/13. 👊
Look forward to seeing some of the best edited Sturgis content on YT! If you want an inside connection/view of what it’s like camping about 3 blocks from downtown I can get you the hook up. The wife and I will there 6th-11th not sure if we’re going to trailer out or fly out and get the bike hauled out. Another side story you could do that I’ve never seen coverage on is the smaller GA airports in the area (Sturgis and Spearfish) lots of heavy hitters fly in along with regular joes who camp right at the airport for the rally.
