Trains at Crewe, WCML - 19/1/19

- Welcome to the latest episode of Big Trip! Today I am at Crewe on the West Coast Main Line where services are seen by Virgin Trains, Transport for Wales, London Northwestern Railway (under TOC West Midlands Trains) and East Midlands Trains.
Crewe was a magnificent station with loads of variety, views and architecture. I haven't been back here for a while and I really did enjoy it the last few times I've filmed here. The station layout is one of the most interesting in the country with platforms scattered around and trains departing or at least being in every one at a certain point or time. My favourite part of filming here was the Class 86, absolutely brilliant to see this again, very uncommon for me to see one so a great experience there. Definitely a station I'd recommend as would anyone as this station is again notorious for enthusiasts alike.

Lucky you getting to see that 86 especially in Powerhaul livery. Unfortunately I’ve heard rumours that they’ll be gone by 2021 which will be a shame

Yeah I’ve seen one pair this year but I’m spending a few days up at Acton bridge in the summer so I should see all the 86s
Kieran, if you haven't been down already, I recommend waiting to come down the NWCL to places like Llandudno Junction until spring or summer. Currently, LLJ and a few of the other big stations (I think Rhyl also) have sections fenced off and have scaffolding on them due to refurbishments etc. In the summer TfW are also hoping to have things like the 230s on test and mk4s also.
Also there's quite a lot of 150s running down here because of stock shortages. I often see 150s on Manchester and Cardiff services now.

@@RWL2012 I think they want them on test by then. They're supposed to be in service by the autumn.

I'm going to say toilet cuz they travel long distance to milford heavon via Cardiff and Swansea so passengers might want to use the toilet
The 86 at the start looks like something out of my Grandad's shed
Virgin had some inherited from BR (along with 87s and newer but mechanically similar 90s) with Mk2 and Mk3 carriages, on the West Coast Main Line from 1997 to 2006-ish; Pendolino teething problems meant they were phased in slowly but eventually allowed Virgin to withdraw their last 86 in late 2003. th-cam.com/video/na8PfX9nyBg/w-d-xo.html shows Virgin 86, 87, 90, 8-car Pendolino and even HST! I know of Caledonian Sleeper using 86s in 2015 and West Coast Railways using one in 2013 on a charter from Euston!
