- When Ponyboy arrives home late Darry has a breakdown when Sodapop tries to defend Ponyboy which drives Darry into a rage. He then proceeds to shove Pony to the ground. P.S: If you don't recognize the music it is because I took this footage from the 2005 Remastered version of the film. Which contains 60's rock music rather than the Original soundtrack.

The scene where he goes to Johnny has me laughing my ass off. It looks like they grabbed Ponyboy's actor and were like "OKAY GO FOR IT" and just launched them at Johnny.
When I read the book and read how Ponyboy got slapped, I expected in the movie that he would possibly lay there on the ground for 5 seconds at least thinking about what just happened. After that, he would realize the whole situation and run away. In the movie, however, he falls down and immediately runs off without any thought or hesitation. Kinda strange between the 2 differences.

Johnny: doesn’t even have time to register what happened yet still gets up and follows his best friend.

It's weird to think Johnny's and Dally's deaths could've been avoided if Darry didn't hit Pony. Pony wouldn't have run off, wouldn't have woken Johnny, they wouldn't go to the park, the Socs wouldn't show up, Bob wouldn't die, Johnny and Pony wouldn't have gone on the run, the church wouldn't catch on fire meaning Johnny could still walk, Dally wouldn't get filled with lead, and the rumble wouldn't happen.

I first saw this in school when I was in the eighth grade.
Even then, I remember thinking that Darry really wasn't overreacting. Any decent parent would have flipped out over their kid coming in at that hour.
Especially under the circumstances he is in. If something happened to Ponyboy, those two would be in a boy’s home
