Nice nice nice. Rarely engineers share their workflow in a realistic and comprehensible way like this. Thank you very much for sharing!

Nice review. Definitely planning on adding a Dutch Audio Insert box to my mastering chain this year. Super valuable tool for those of us with a good amount of analog gear.

Cheers! Yeah the Dutch Audio devices are awesome and their service is, too! Can’t go wrong with it I’d say!

What target loudness level did the client want for this song or what levels were you trying to achieve? Also I like the clipper before going into the analog stage to keep things in check. I use a hybrid setup for my mix/master chain and never thought to put a clipper before leave the box but I do aim for about -5,-6 going into my chain. Thanks for taking the time to make this video. It was awesome.

I actually didn’t aim for any loudness levels in this video as it was just for presentation purposes. I just lifted the limiter until I get ~1db of GR, I think that was around -10/-9RMS.
For streaming I aim for -14 to -10LUFS, for CD/DJ sets (especially for EDM stuff) basically as loud as I can get it without destroying it. Thanks for watching!

Nice video, as always (y) I have a question: I know that "less is more" but If the mastering needs a ton of plugins, can we put it a lot (small changes per plugins) ?

Yes, you absolutely can and should do whatever is required. It’s pretty common to “split the load” of heavy processing between several processors - e.g; several EQs doing a little, 2 limiters splitting the work, etc.
The “less is more” approach - in my opinion - is often not applicable in real life projects, since most of us don’t work with mixes that are essentially perfect. Thanks for watching!

Indeed, I have been doing it for years .... 👍mostly my equipment is Maselec/Merging technologies/Neve/Manley etc ....what DAW do you use and bit resolution frequency you master at?

I use Cubase and work at the sample rate that was delivered. Usually 44.1/24 or 48/24, 192khz is very rare.

Thank you! I am proper happy with the Hilo!
I had a few high end converters here and went with this one, even though it was the oldest of the bunch. Lynx support is also awesome, even for older products such as this. Can’t complain! 🙂

@@MrZilpah The RME adi2 pro FS BE and Antelope Amari. RME didn’t feel fully thought out and their support was unfortunately horrible which was a huge turn off and unexpected.
Might add some other AD/DA options down the road but for now I’m pretty happy!
