this is an excellent review of this EQ, the best I have seen so far. Also the music is really stellar. The only aspect I have not seen anyone cover is the App that Gainlab uses to snapshot settings. do you know how it works? Also where do you have it in your chain? and how does it play with the SSL Fusion?
Awesome. What string gauges?
I feel like the ATC thing became a bit of a cult. You MUST believe they are the best. Please, BELIEVE! In reallity most monitors in that similar price range are similarly great and that’s it. You pick one that suits your taste. I personally don’t like the bass rolloff on ATC’s and I know loads of people who had to get subs for their 45’s therefore effectivley doubling the price of the system.
I wouldn’t say it’s a cult, they just sound exceptionally good. I’ve been to high end studios and have heard all kind of monitors and I just couldn’t wait to get back home and turn my 45’s on. They are bass light, but you get used to it after a while….
@@MrDddrrrggg I heard them, yes they are awesome. Are they infinitely better than Neumanns, Genelecs etc? Absolutely not… But I gotch ya, the “cult” thing is a seni-joke ;)
@@Strepite Well I’ve heard high range Genelecs and my 45’s were much better imo. I’ve only listened to Neumann 310’s and the price range makes an unfair comparison, but they also weren’t close to the 45’s…. I don’t know the experience this guy is having but maybe the room acoustics might be it, Atc’s are heavily reliant on good acoustics. I spent about 30k in my room
@@MrDddrrrggg I am sure you are emotionally connected when you spend that amount of money on speakers & acoustics... They must be the best in the universe ;)
@@Strepite You’re now being sarcastic.. I spent that amount on acoustics and I could have chosen any speakers, I’m just into the Atc sound. To each their own. I might swap them in a few years for some 150’s or PMC high end speakers.
Sorry to upset you but there isn't much to choose between the two. 😎
I picked Gold & Flatliner last time. Same thing this time, but I also liked Ash-Lavry as well. I'm not sure what is up with the audio, but D E F seemed louder this time compared to the others -- or maybe just my hearing is causing it, but this video I had a hard time picking instant favorites. Had to close my eyes and listen through all the examples 3x and write down my choices whereas in Part 1 it was instantly easy for me to narrow my faves to B & D.
It would be cool if you make a review of the Type 20MKII
Unfortunately didn’t make reviews back when I had them here, maybe I’ll get a demo pair back someday. But I’ll tell you right away, best pair of speakers in that price range that personally heard.
Dope Mastering Eq I brought one and I love it!!!!
Just bought one today, was looking at this or the Carnaby HE2....want them both tho
Sexy towers, your kids will love them once you get another even better pair 😅 PS: Bet they sound sick.
Whole family loved them indeed. 😁 But this was only a test session… for now… 😅
They look incredible and I bet they sound like it also!! Bummed I didn´t manage to visit in time... ☹
Aren't these always a 4 way system? AMT, 4", 7" in the center unit and 9" woofers in the extension units.
Would make sense yeah but the website said 3-way, so I went with that 😁 Thanks for watching!
@@illusiaproductions I did a quick Google search and found a review saying the crossover frequencies are 80, 250 and 2k5.
Tried PSI Audio ? Also PresentDayProduction MUM-10's can be an option for you. Mixing/Mastering Engineers with a TH-cam channel creating a Speaker company. Their driver choice in my optinion is stellar - involving PuriFi Low drivers and BlieSma Mids/Tweeters. And they seem to (out)perform some of the best "industry standards" companies.
Have not tried PSI yet, no. The ATC speakers were provided to me just for general testing, not looking to buy a new speaker as I’m near perfectly happy with my system 😁 The PDP speakers definitely look interesting, I watch their videos, too. If they’d want to send me a pair for a listening session, I certainly wouldn’t say no 🙂
In this case I prefer the digital one. I love open sound but in this case the analog one is almost TOO open (and vocals/cymbals too sibilant)
For sure! In a real world project I’d have them adjust the mix and/or make use of all the digital goodies we have nowadays, to tame such issues.
The ATC’s can be very fiddly to get right. They are room primadonnas and if you’re unlucky they just won’t work. I’ve been fortunate enough to demo most models at the same time in several rooms and the results have usually been very surprising and counterintuitive.
I love “Room Primadonnas”! 😂 Thanks for sharing this! Maybe it was indeed such a case and I got unlucky.
How much are the KEFs? And HEDD are great speakers… but in a commercial studio, clients need to see brand names… that’s the truth…
20k for the KEFs new price, 3k for HEDD BASS12 sub. Yeah, I know what you mean with clients wanting to see brand names, but I think nowadays it’s a little less of a problem than a decade or so ago!
@@illusiaproductions well for 20K you should compare the bigger ATC’S. The scm45 are 12K…
@dimoscondos I’m aware it’s a different league but that’s what the distributors had and they wanted to hear the scm45’s in my room. I should say I am also not really looking to change my setup but always happy to test other speakers! 🙂 End of this months I’ll get a pair of speakers in, which will probably change the game for me, they’re twice the price and size of the KEFs 😅 Thanks for watching!
Great review! Thanks for sharing
Glad you enjoyed it! Cheers
Have you heard the Amphion Two18?
Not yet but I have heard only good things about them! I’ve briefly been in touch with the CEO and should set up a testing session sometime this year. Also; Towards the end of this month I’ll be getting a pair of very interesting high end speakers in. 👀
@@illusiaproductions Cool. Im toying with the idea of either Amphion Two18 or PSI Audio A23-M.
As always, gotta get them into your room, test, compare and decide. I’m sure either of them are nice 👌
I had the exact same experience with the Phantom Center . Also to my ears , it felt like there was a shelf from 80 hz down and 10k up . Midrange was beautiful and the low end was beautifully tight but it just felt a bit too distracting to have that prominent of a midrange. I am trying to love them but something about them just doesn't convince me 100%. If the amphions had the ATC tweeter I would be in heaven. Never listened to a speaker with that much separation and height. Felt like I was listening to an atmos mix at times on the amphions
Thanks for sharing, glad to hear it’s not just me then! 😁
I like the way you describe the sound character of the ATC, I’ve heard them and that is pretty accurate. It’s like you’re listening into the speakers rather than the speakers bringing the sound to you.
I heard them in a relatively untreated environment, so I don’t know what they sound like with proper acoustic treatment and room correction and placement. It’s possible they are less diffuse sounding with proper set up.
i am really cinfused between atc scm 45 vs genelec 8361 a i really want you to review the genelec and if youve heard please let me know
Get both models (same time or after one another) into your own room and make own tests! That’s the only way to go about it IMHO. We all have different rooms and ears and preferences.
@@illusiaproductionsthe whole point of these reviews is showing the speaker and doing sound tests so that someone with a decent pair of headphones can understand kinda how these 12,000$ speakers cost.
100% agree! If you put the money in the room treatment, even entry level speakers sound killer! Totally my case, I invested the last decade studying acoustics and treating my room, my speakers are a pair of whatever + sub and people cry listening to music in the sweet spot of my studio, it's crazy. Of course better speakers are: better. Cheers from Brazil!
💯 agreed! Thanks for sharing! 🙌
Just found this video, the plugin has a small lift on the high frequencies by default, i dont know if this is a bug or not but i checked it with plugin doc and i saw a small high shelf lift starting around 6-7 k i think, and the tone section behaves like a pultec
Right on! Yeah, I remember the high end lift for sure. I think many plugins do something right away, so you immediately feel the gratification of using it. 0.2db volume output by default and we go “oh yes, so much more width and depth and mojo” 😆
I had similar experience with my ATC SCM 45A Pro. I didn't keep them either. Here is a video that explains my decision: th-cam.com/video/ZcVvjek6fjM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=F6dwou7kpkEHw1TS
Yup, I see why you switched and it makes total sense to me! Thanks for tuning in! 🙌
Thanks for your insight mate!
Thanks for watching! 🫶
Ronan Chris Murphy is highly impressed with those 45As: My big studio upgrade: an ATC SCM45A Pro review. Whatever the reason for your personal opinion may be, there's a reason why people prefer certain monitors over the others.
100% agree. I know plenty of people that use these and get amazing results. Just want to encourage people to try some options before settling with a pair, whatever brand it may be, cause me and everyone that came to my studio to check them out had all high hopes for the legendary ATCs but… well… 😅
Shots fired!!
😁
Thanks. Maybe try PSI Audio A25-M or A23-M
I surely wouldn’t say no if they wanted to send them over for testing 😁 I’m always happy to hear something “new” and find something “better”, but so far that just hasn’t happened, which makes me appreciate my current system of course, too. Thanks for watching!
hi but eq klark where is?
Hi! You have to buy it from the website after creating an account. The software is free, but you need to buy the hardware models. Good thing they’re super cheap! I don’t have this EQ anymore in my list but I remember the model had some weird quirks.
If you are going to do a review like this, you really should know more about how the functions work.
Yup, it was a tough one and I had limited time with the unit. It indeed has an overwhelming amount of functions and features.
nice review - good production values
You can turn on the transient expander without playing the game. Last page of the user guide.
Hey Stefan! On my smartphone it sounds identical so I will stay on Sir Standard Clip 💛💙
Hey buddy! Sorry for the late reply 😅 Standard Clip is still my go to as well, aside from clipping the Hilo occasionally. Hope all is well Andi! 🫶
Very interesting, E best A worst.
Damn, i'm pretty disappointed in K Clip..
Ah well, it is what it is. I’d say non of these are actually bad. But there’s certainly options that might be suited a little better for certain applications. Thanks for tuning in!
Exactly the video I was looking for
Nice! Thanks for tuning in! 🙂
Its really crazy how i chose standard clip from 2017 till now on my pc to be the prefered.. And in this video i chose A and F as the best, the ones that have an undeniable better control from the sub bass to the mids and of course the transients and punchs.
Agreed! Older tools doesn’t always equal worse tools indeed. Thanks for tuning in!
That’s great!
Glad you like it! 🙏
Amazing content man. Subscribed! So don't know if I missed it but what is Your choice out of all this testing? Sehr schön
Thank you! More stuff coming ASAP. I don't think there's a one size fits all-clipper here. Standard clip and my Hilo hardware converter are my most used ones though.
The best review of this beast ) Thank you!
Thank you, glad you liked it!
Killer!
Thanks Doug! 🙏
Congrats!!!!
Thank you! 🙏

Gotta set priorities 😅
Wow thanks man this is awesome😮
why don't use audio anter interface
My current audio interface is the Lynx Hilo
@@illusiaproductions how to connect the all analog gear
@user-bh5mm4pw1s all the gear is connected to the Dutch Audio IM2.1S mastering console/insert Switcher. Stereo in & stereo out of the IM2.1S go to the Lynx Hilo.
thank you @@illusiaproductions
Amazing 💪🏻
❤️🔥🙏
Song?
It’s the IG sound “hotel - my view today x”. The original song is apparently ‘Assumptions’ by Ronniefreestyle & Skam.
Nice nice nice. Rarely engineers share their workflow in a realistic and comprehensible way like this. Thank you very much for sharing!
Cheers, glad to hear that!
1 minute in, still no idea what this stuff does, and there's super annoying, distracting guitar shit playing.
Thank you. I never heard of that wonderful piece of software.
You’re welcome! It’s somehow not very known, I’ve got no clue why, though. Invaluable piece of kit right there!
h! nice video.....where would u put this, in your mastering chain, after patametric and befor stereo bus comp maybe,im wondering?
Hi, thanks so much! Well, that depends on your workflow and on project needs. I use this EQ to get broad strokes done before going into detail so it’s the first EQ in my chain, but; On my mastering console (Dutch Audio IM2.1s) I can move the last hardware insert slot PRE insert 1, if I feel like I want to compress first. But that’s super rare actually, I tend to EQ first and then compress my EQ’d signal. Hope this helps!
@@illusiaproductions definitely 🤟im seriously considering this eq, and im slightly new to mix my own stuff, so any advice i appreciated here, thanks again🙏
My pleasure it’s what I’m here for! 🙂 I think I’d prefer this one even over a real pultec pair, I love the extra functions and the mid-band. But when starting out, there’s also nothing wrong with plugins either! UAD’s version of the pultecs are great and I use them when mixing all the time (I do full in the box mixing, mastering is hybrid analogue). First things to get right when starting out is unfortunately room acoustics anyway, then monitoring, then the exciting analogue gear 😁
@@illusiaproductions perfect🤟i think u made up my mind, about my next purchase, thanx a bunch....and keep up making good videos there👍
this is one of the best mastering comparisons i've seen. You obviously have great analog mastering knowledge, thanks for posting this. I have a question about the masterdesk pro, I currenty use the regular masterdesk. I noticed you kept the main "Volume" knob close to "0" but you used the "turbo" knob in the limiter section for more limiting volume. Is there a reason for that?
Glad you liked it! No, there’s not really a reason, I was just playing around with the plug-in really. I thought the turbo mode was similar to the bx_xl and I just used the trim to prevent it to go to 0. But I’ve also had a limiter on the very end for the video. Thanks for watching!
I agree. Instant subscribe. I bought the Masterdesk Pro which is why I'm here. This was the BEST mastering session I've ever watched. No need to repost the sentiment. My respect for Mastering Engineers and this gentleman went up by 1000%. I'm just a musician trying to do what I can within my limitations. I guess, I'll be thinking of this video every time I use Masterdesk. 😂
Thanks so much for the kind words! 🙏
