8:32 Okay, I live down south and can confirm there is random debris on the road FLYING through the air. Had a piece of rock a semi threw at me that just clipped the car and make a scratch. Another 3mm to the left and it would have smashed my hood, probably would have bounced up and smashed the windshield. Also, I was driving to work at night, and all of a sudden, 1,000 golf balls bouncing down the highway came into my headlights! The interstates are not lit, so beyond the range of your headlights is a black void of uncertainty at night. They were all over the road so I just hit them! The sound was hilarious! No damage to the car. I have absolutely no idea where they came from or what happened to them. Must have fallen out of somebody's car or off the back of a truck.

I’ve wrenched on my own cars for about 30 years and was a diesel mechanic for a bit at a Kenworth repair center and then went to work for a construction company as fleet mechanic.
I have so many insane stories to tell. I don’t think people realize just how many unsafe vehicles share the roads with everyone else.
Anytime I see these videos of the vehicles that are complete rust buckets or jerry-rigged and still operating on the road with the rest of us, I just remember the amount of owner/operator rigs that slip passed inspections.
It’s terrifying when you realize the amount of potential carnage a loaded tractor/trailer can do to the rest of the vehicles on the road. Drive safe folks.

Thank The FSM, that all manufacturers have moved away from toughened glass, to laminates. I was spanking down the M40, near High Wycombe, at about 120mph about three in he morning. I overtook a construction materiels lorry in the slow lane. When a lump of granite, about the size of a golf ball, hit the windscreen putting about a two centimetres dent in it... Right in front of my face!!! I was a tad surprised!

Y'know, I sympathize with some of the customers. I've figured out a whole heck of a lot about a whole heck of a lot of things in my time on this Earth, but automotive work is still largely a mystery to me. I know when I'm starting to have trouble with my steering or my suspension or my brakes or my exhaust, but very little idea how bad it really is. It could be that my disks are a bit warped or it could be that my whole front end is about to riot. It turns out that my first car was a bit of a joke in my local shop. The suspension was royally screwed the whole time I owned it. Riding entirely on the springs, swaying all over the place, major safety concern. And I was blissfully unaware because the thing drove like a La-Z-boy on wheels. So relaxing on road trips... my passengers would fall asleep for hours at a time.

Most places in America don't have laws like that and those places that do vary wildly. If a mechanic sees something dangerous like some of these, sometimes they will have the owner sign a waiver accepting liability of the vehicle to absolve themselves of any legal ramifications. Otherwise, unless they work on it (even unrelated repairs), then it doesn't matter if they saw it and let it drive away. It's the owners responsibility. Some places might have different laws, but all you have to do is cross a state or even county line in some cases and the rules are practically nonexistent. You really only get in trouble for that kind of stuff after you get in an accident or pulled over by a cop.

You are lucky. In the UK it is yearly and they are _very_ strict. I have just had a test done and they complained about rust on brake disks (rotors), but it is superficial rust that appears straight away with rain drops on it. I polish the rotors with emery cloth just before a test, but on this occasion it rained on the way to the test.

If a customer drives in with a car falling apart and declines repair in US do you have to let them drive away in a dangerous vehicle?

Why soooooo many bad breaks in these videos? Doing your breaks is one of the easiest things you can do yourself at home with very little experience. Damn when I first started out I watched a couple of videos on my car on the front breaks and then I did them. From there you can then do your own oil change and stuff like that. So many bad breaks and these damn people are out here driving on the roads with your family and mine.

We could make a 10 hour video just on bad brakes

I cannot believe the condition of these cars,in the UK our cars, vans etc have to pass a yearly test of condition of vehicles, the cars in these vids would never be allowed on the road, these are death traps!!!

aside from the CS stupidity of not repairing safety relevant stuff, i cannot comprehend why most of the guys in the video dont wear gloves. All that nasty ass oil cannot be good for your skin.

I would like you to state and not just show the problem. Those with car savvy may know what you are looking at but we non mechanics don't .

Can People really be that Numb to Taking care of their Car? And when Mechanics see Spray Foam and Bungy Cords, are they Legally Supposed to let that Owner Leave with their Vehicle??? If that Owner was Intoxicated when they arrived to take their vehicle, Would they be allowed to leave with their Vehicle? So how do you not Ban that vehicle from the road, endangering other drivers lives?
If owners got into an accident after leaving your shop and you Knew the condition of them and/or their car, I am not sure how you couldn't be held responsible for the people that were hurt of Killed due to it???
