  • Despite the pain of losing his wife to cancer, the experience taught S. Michael Wilcox valuable lessons and led to him to write a new book titled, "Sunset: On the Passing of Those We Love." In the book, Wilcox shares sensitive insights for cherishing loved ones, treasuring mortality and how to turn to the Lord in times of painful adversity. He also shares some of those insights in this interview.

I love you grandpa! I'm his granddaughter and it has been tough for me and everyone else around. I have traveled to many places with him such as china and back-east and hope to see the rest of the world with him! This video was very touching. Thank you :)

Br Wilcox's remarks about his experience with his wife's death has helped me more than anything else to deal with my husband's death, I so appreciate his insights

This is a very touching video and so filled with teaching moments. Too bad that the music drowns out Bro. Wilcox a lot of time. THey need to remake the video and put the music in the background. I love his ending statement.
"I am one day closer to my God and my loved ones".

Thank you for sharing this beautiful message. My husband of 26 years passed away last year after a 24 year battle with MS, and though the last year or so was extremely difficult, he had an incredible attitude. I'm grateful for the time we had, even though we knew early on in our marriage that we would not share the life we had hoped for. God only gives bread, not stones. The things I learned about faith, hope, compassion, and love could not have been learned in any other way. I pray daily that I will be worthy of him when my time comes.

This would be a lovely video, but the sound is really off. When Bro. Wilcox is talking, I can barely hear him. When I turn it up to hear what he's saying, every time the subtitles show, the music blares painfully. The video would be far easier to watch if the music were toned down to match the volume of the speaker (or better yet, to be softer than the speaker). I like the content, though.

Thank you for sharing this interview of Michael Wilcox. I was given his book, "Sunset" a year ago when my husband of 30 years passed away from Cancer, he was only 53. I connected with just about everything in Michael's book. Every emotion I felt but could not put into words, he did in his book. I love what he says in this video about Rachel and Jacob and how he connects that to himself and his wife Laurie, that is what I am feeling, I want to be the best person I can be so I can be with my husband forever. I have also worried, as Michael said, if now, my husband, seeing me as he can now, does he still want me.... I am comforted to know I am not the only one that has felt this. I like what Michael said about his life being different and he is learning how to now live this different life. My husband has been gone for 13 months now and I am at that crossroad, what is my life supposed to look like, what purpose do I have in this world, what am I supposed to do now. I know what he shared in his book was sacred to him and he probably wondered at first if those things were too sacred to share because they were so personal because of the love he has for Laurie, If I knew how to contact him I would tell him thank you! Thank you for not keeping those sacred thoughts and feelings to yourself because in sharing what he did in his book "Sunset", I found comfort and peace. His experiences, thoughts and feelings that he shared, gave me peace and comfort and understanding in a time I so needed it. I will be forever grateful. Thank you

    Michael --
I know where you are coming from. My wife passed away after battling cancer for 8 years. It was tough and the sadness of knowing that she would in this life, never to hold her grand children, has been huge for me and my sons. However, we know we are together forever. 14 years later, we have all been blessed and still feel her help in our lives. Thanks for the boo it put those feeling out there.

I have read his book and gone to his classes at BYU. As a widow my husband passed with cancer and I could understand what he was going through and learning . Thank You for sharing.

I'm so grateful to hear this message from Bro. Wilcox. My husband of 40 years died last July and this is the one book that completely describes my thoughts and feelings since his passing. I have read it several times and given it to friends who have lost loved ones and need spiritual and emotional comfort.

What an amazing message. Thanks for sharing. Just recently lost our 27 year old son to drug overdose. I can so relate to lot of these same emotions as Michael. My faith has been tested or in crises as well. We struggle everday with sorrow and how to pass throught it. It is definetly a process. Our lifes have change from this loss of our only son. Thank you again so much for sharing so comforting to know we arn't alone in our grief a loss. That we can learn a grow from this trial.

The music is beautiful, if not somewhat distracting.

I was excited to listen to this but the background music is too loud. I don't fully understand what he says sometimes in this video. 😢
God Bless you Michael. And thank you for sharing.
We just lost 4 loved ones at once. Our 24 year old son & his wife, also her mother & her sister to a tragic car accident. I've never hurt so much in my life.
